The Rank and Rate Man of Steel thread

Don't understand what people's problems with the dialogue are. The only line that really sounded bad or out of place to me was Lois's line about "measuring d-cks". Everything else sounded pretty natural to me (albeit a bit comic booky).

I mean, we're not talking about the horribly stilted and awkward dialogue of the SW prequels here!

Ha ha I loved that line it got a big laugh in the cinema I was in

9/10.

Mythic, epic, exciting, visceral, action packed, and tender.

No problems are big enough to really detract greatly from the experience.

-Batman Begins
-The Avengers
-Man of Steel
-Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
-The Dark Knight Rises
-Superman: The Movie
-The Dark Knight (WHAT WHY SO LOW ARRGHGGHGH! Relax, I still love it but oddly, I have the issues with this people have with MOS-issues I don't think apply to the latter)
-Iron Man
-Hulk (yes, Hulk is in my top 10 superhero movies)
-The Amazing Spider-Man (Yes, I like it more than the Raimi films. I can see some people automatically dismissing my opinion right now:yay:)

Just got back from IMAX 2D showing and WOW...I FEEL LIKE I JUST GOT RUN OVER BY A TRUCK OF AWESOME.

I loved this film. The action is breath-taking, the fight scene in Smallville has topped the Joker truck chase from TDK for my favorite Comic Book Movie action scene ever. "This man is not our enemy" I got absolute chills at that moment. I knocked a point off because the final fight was a little too hectic and crazy, even for this movie. It was hard to keep track, but the dialogue between Zod and Superman was well done. Very well done.

The Jor-El/Kent family scenes were spliced in so well and the cast was phenomenal. I can't emphasize enough the emotional connection I felt with the Jor-El and Kent family flashbacks. Tears forming. There was not a single weak link in the cast for me. Just great.

I loved Snyder's direction in the movie, the way it was shot. Felt very real, very gritty but with super-powered people beating the crap outta each other.

I have NO IDEA what angle these critics were coming from and judging from the cinemascore, the box office and general word of mouth....I think the majority agrees.

Finally, HENRY CAVILL YOU ARE OUR SUPERMAN. My god when he put on those glasses and flashed that Clark smile at the end...I questioned my sexuality. Looking forward to MANY more movies with him donning the S.

9/10. Thank you Snyder, cast, Nolan, Goyer, etc. Wonderful film.

8.5 for me (although I voted a 9 just to round it off).

4 things that disappoints me about this film:

- The fast pacing from the early part of the 1st act (Krypton)
- Not enough Faora
- Flashbacks were scattered all over the film
- Some shaky cam scenes should have been replaced with a still cam

But, all-in-all, the film looks great. The cast, cinematography and the score were spectacular, and all the action & Vfx were exhilarating to see on the big screen. Kudos to Nolan, Goyer, Snyder and WETA Digital for bringing/making this film into reality.

This movie was not only amazing but also breathtaking.
It had my wife crying in parts. (During baby leaving krypton ) and
Some other parts. Quite easily in my opinion far better than what marvel has to offer. And I admire how serious it was. The action and fights and effects are like
Nothing I've ever seen.

The movie was absolutely amazing!!! Wow. I truly loved how they handled life on Krypton and its destruction. I could see an entire movie about the planet.

Constructing his origin in appropriately timed flashbacks was great (reminded me a bit like Lost).

Every actor held their own weight so well. Loved Crowe and Shannon as Jor-El and Zod. Wish we could see more of both in future sequels. Faora was deliciously evil and Lois rocked and was very believable. Ma and Pa Kent were totally on point and the perfect human balance to all the alien madness. Cavill IS Superman. He owned that role. His line deliveries were so grand and touching.

The action was insane!!!! That is a superhero movie hands down. It kept revving up and becoming more and more epic.

No child's play any longer. DC is paving the way and setting the benchmark on their cinematic universe.

Bring it on!!!

All I can say is, man, the critics got it wrong on this one.

9/10

I rated this movie as a 6 out of 10.

I personally enjoy it, but beyond the visual aspect of it, I don't know that I like how Snyder cut this film, and the action got way too ridiculous for me to the point of desensitization. However, I enjoyed Cavill a lot. I don't know that he had the natural charisma as I thought he'd have in the role, but Cavill is still fun to watch and is not as dry as Routh was. I look forward to Cavill's take on the "mild-mannered reporter" Clark Kent.

I'd add this to my blu-ray collection.

Since some folks are ranking, I suppose I'll join in on the fun and rank my top 12 comic book movies as of now:

1. Dark Knight 10/10
2. Spider-Man 2 10/10
3. Dark Knight Rises 9/10
4. X2 9/10
5. Superman I and II 9/10
6. Amazing Spider-Man 8/10
7. Avengers 8/10
8. Batman Begins 8/10
9. Batman Returns 7/10
10. Iron Man 7/10
11. Superman Returns 6/10
12. MOS 6/10

The movie has a 57 on rotten tomatoes for a reason. It's not as great as a lot of you think, the visuals were fantastic, but aside from that it was just subpar. There were tons of moments when I thought "wow this could be a great movie" then something happened that drove me back to reality. The characters didn't act like real people at all and the movie took itself far too seriously.

Yeah they are. Especially Jor El not killing Zod and Superman having no reason not to kill Zod either.

How is Jor-El not killing Zod a plot-hole? It appears they were friends once and Jor-El appears to be a kind man. Having him just kill Zod would have been very OC.

Well, people will complain every goddamn things if they hate the movie.

Geez. In all seriousness, what the HECK is up with those ratings? Not that they're important to me...but yeah.

The editor of rotten tomatoes himself came out recently with how he actually enjoyed MOS and didn't understand the ratings on his own site! lol.

HAHAHAHA sorry i couldn't help but laugh

I'd give it 8 out of 10. Loved it!

Reasons for not giving it a 10: I thought the dialogue wasn't very smart and I thought the destructiveness went on too long at the end.

I'd have preferred it to end with the Supes/Lois kiss at 'ground zero' and not continue into the Supes vs Zod showdown with yet more skyscrapers getting smashed apart. It needed to dial down a bit on the action. I thought it was magnificent until that final showdown scene took place

8.5/10

Pros: Cavill is great. Finally a new Superman that is not trying to imitate Reeve, makes it his own. Can tell he is not carefree, lots going on in his head. Rest of cast very good as well. Love the Jor-El shadow scenes. Kent scenes so good especially when Jon dies. Best comic book fight scene ever between Superman and Faora. Love Krypton fleshed out and all the alien tech. Last few minutes with Clark at the Daily Planet are gold.

Cons: Donning of suit should have been more dramatic plus explained more, just pops up. Needed more character scenes to balance so much fighting. I think I would have preferred linear storytelling to the flashbacks. Part of Metropolis leveled but no aftermath of dealing with that, everything is just ok again at the end.

This is an excellent foundation to start the DCU on. Thank you to all involved for giving me the Superman movie I wanted complete with a modernized origin and epic fights.

Agreed. Plus no acknowledgement of dealing with it.

Great movie, washed away the turd of 06.
During the last fight scenes, I could not help but think of Black Adam during those sequences. When General Zod stripped away his battle Armor, he looked amazing like Black Adam.

I give it 9.0

There were people boo when they thought the movie ends with lois n supes kissing. Then he sat back after seeing zod rise from debris.
Just saying a lot of people love the final show down.

I'm not a huge Superman fan but this one caught my eye, so I ended up seing it with my friends yesterday and I haven't felt so dissapointed.
My actual rating is 6.5/10, but the closest to that on the poll was 6. So, there ya go.

note: I probably should've rounded it off to a 7, but I just couldn't get it that high.

I'm very satisfied with the rankings here, at IMDb, Screenrant, and IGN.
