Fox employee: These figures for our Fantastic Four movies look really good. The graph shows we've been seeing a steady rise in box office returns each time.

Fox executive: Idiot! You're reading it upside down!

I don't know whether or not I believe Marvel got the rights back, but I think it'll happen sooner rather than later if it hasn't already. Even if it's just a few characters.

I'm not buying it for a minute Fox's (and Marvel's) denial that the rights reverted. Fox is probably playing face because they still need to try to make money off the reboot with the digital and home media release later this year. Plus, I think a lot of details still need to be ironed out with Marvel in terms of the transfer of the rights for both FF and the X-Men TV rights. Fox didn't get the rights to just two X-Men TV series. They probably have plans for many X-Men related live active TV shows in the future. That's got to worth a lot compared to a film franchise that has failed to deliver both in the box office and with the critics and fans alike. I'm certain that discussions are being done between the two because Marvel didn't give up TV rights for nothing. It's true that Marvel couldn't really do an X-Men TV show but they still want to get something from Fox, so getting the FF and all it's related characters makes the most sense. In time, we'll know for sure if the trade happened. One can hope!

Fox are going ahead with the sequel. They have even set up their own special Fantastic Four film division. All of their films experience division of the returns so each makes in total only what the previous one's opening weekend made. :o

:funny: It's a brilliant tax-avoidance strategy.

Has anyone seen the Den of Geek apology? I think it's pretty clear from that apology that they don't take their reporting lightly. They clearly believed their source, and I suspect it was somebody who actually did know something (who hopefully hasn't been fired).

So what happened? Last week, a very good, regular source who we've dealt with many times before got in touch. It was following up on something we'd heard before. The source in question has passed us an awful lot of very good information before, ironically most of which we've not run. We try hard to make sure stories hold water before we run them, and veer on the side of caution.

In this case, we felt, after a lot of work, that there was something to it. We thus ran the story.

No more having to film in Baton Rouge, Louisiana from now on. :o

Hmm. That's interesting about this apology. Did this trusted source get it wrong or was he actually right but there were denials anyway? Why did they run this one though? Was it because they too wanted to believe it was true?

But as we've discussed, those denials don't mean very much and there's practically no chance the TV deals were done just for money, unless Marvel have suddenly been overun by Fox and turned into idiots as well.

If you add up all the things we know:

a. Common sense tells us there was a deal of some sort.

b. A source that Den of Geek trusts told them there was a deal.

c. Representatives of the studios (who could lose millions in home video revenue if people feel Fox gave up, dumped the crap effort and will not produce a sequel . . . and keep in mind Marvel will likely also get a cut of revenue) denied the report but didn't offer any further explanation or details. (Is this really any different than their denials of production problems? Confirmation of either would hurt their bottom line, so we would expect them to be misleading.)

As far as I know, nobody willing to attach their name (such as Kevin Feige) has commented one way or another.

If somebody gave me an option to put $1000 down in Vegas on one of these options.

1. Within the next year, we will learn that Marvel has the ability to include characters previously controlled exclusively by Fox in their films.

or

2. Things will continue as they have and Fox will either make a film or the rights will revert naturally after 8 years. No deals have happened and none will happen in the short-term.

I'd put my $1000 on option #1 and feel pretty confident I'd double my money.

Fox has dated Kingsman 2 for June 16, 2017. It's highly unlikely they'd release Kingsman 2 and Fant4sti2 one week apart, so I think we can officially considered that June 9 sequel date bull**** now.

Unless of course, Fox decide to plug both Kingsman 2 and FFINO2 because they're both equal in their eyes. :o

Good catch.

Yeah I saw that to.... I suppose they'll covertly sweep that 4stic 2 spot under the rug shortly.

I was wondering why they didn't just use the FF2 spot instead of scheduling for the next weekend, but I guess it just illustrates how dedicated they are to maintaining the illusion that they will make an FF2 at least until after the home video release.:loco:

I'm pretty sure I can solve that one, actually. World War Z 2 is scheduled for June 9. World War Z 2 could theoretically be competition for Kingsman 2. June 16, meanwhile, has Cars 3. Cars 3 will make truckloads of cash, but it's a PG kid-targeted film. The R-rated Kingsman 2 will be counter programming (a film going after a completely different audience than the major release).

I thought about FF after that Kingsman 2 release date was announced. Only a matter of time before they take FF 2 off of the schedule.

FFINO2 is really like Weekend at Bernie's. They're still carting around a dead body trying to give the illusion that it's alive and kicking. Even FFINO was dead on arrival.

Kingsman on June 16,2017...another good sign imo.

Or
1.) They'll announce that Production is suspended indefinitely

or

2.) That 4tasic 2 production has been pushed back and the new release date is ?????? ( What ever date they come up with)

If negotiations with FF never existed or completed with the X-Men TV Show

I'm sure they can push back FFINO2's date to whenever they want. They did that loads of times with FFINO when it was about to go into pre-production, or maybe when it already supposedly was. The dates are all completely arbitrary anyway, because they don't have any intention of making this film, unless they're as stupid as last time and went ahead with it regardless of nearly firing their director and trying to search for replacements at the last minute, and then all the other problems it faced.

What about the actors? I'm not sure about their contracts but, why would they want to return to do a sequel? Besides money

Kate Mara and Miles Teller didn't even bother watching the first one despite attending premier events. I doubt they'd be that thrilled to make another one.

This is the kind of thing that intrigues me about the thought of them actually doing a sequel. Imagine them trying to convince a director to take it on. Anyone who has half a brain will realize what they'd be getting into and turn them down immediately. Whoever would actually be willing to do it would have to be absolutely desperate for a job.

Then imagine them dragging the actors, kicking and screaming, back in against their will. "You've got a contract, damn it."

And the hate and anger we saw here and at less polite sites will be ten times worse than it was this time around. I mean up until the reviews started coming in, people could at least reasonably say: "It might be a good movie."

If they actually started moving forward with a sequel, it would be a spectacle unlike anything ever witnessed before in human history . . . which almost makes me want to see them try.:woot:

The only way I see them getting thrilled about reprising their roles is if they got to play the MCU versions of the characters, although that will never happen, I mean them playing the characters in the MCU.
