agreed...wenham is now my #1 choice over bettany

not much point in speculating.

nolan is probably going to throw us a curve ball like he did with ledger and it will likely fit perfectly.

It still keeps me wonder why nobody ever suggested him. 2005, the same year as Batman Begins there were 3 male performances in particular that got alotta praise; Philip Seymour Hoffman in Capote, Joaquin Phoenix in Walk the Line, & Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain. All nominated for an Oscar, Golden Globe, SAG, & Bafta. The Dark Knight had 3 new rumored characters; The Penguin, Harvey Dent, & The Joker. Hoffman was the most popular choice for The Penguin, Phoenix was one of the most popular choices for Dent. Heath was the leading actor in the biggest movie of that year. Why did nobody ever suggest him for the Joker?

Sorry for going a lil OT.

Johnny Depp can play different types of characters, so I think he could play
The Riddler and Jude Law is creepy enough to play the character. :word:

I think Neil Patrick Harris would make a great Riddler.

I was watching a rerun of How I Met Your Mother from season 3 and it was St. Patrick's Day and he was wearing an all green suit. I thought instantly of the Riddler.

Interesting discussion-point. It's not like he wasn't recognised as a talented actor. And it's not like he wasn't mentioned because of his age. His "Brokeback" co-star Jake Gyllenhaal was suggested by some as a potential Joker candidate.

Edward Norton would be a terrible idea for the Joker. Whilst I think he's a good actor, he's already the lead in another superhero franchise... I for one don't like the idea of double-dipping in iconography.

On a purely aesthetical stand-point, a black actor would be interesting.

However, my choice which I think you should consider is:

Casey Affleck

The guy can seriously act. He's got a dark, mysterious look, and is currently just the right side of stardom level to be mouldable into a movie icon. I really think he'd be great.

I'll have to say "no" to Casey Affleck for Riddler. Purely because I think he's the best possible choice to replace Heath Ledger for The Joker, if they go the recasting route.

Hmmm...Casey Affleck for Joker sounds REALLY interesting.

But to whoever, we were just shooting the breeze about a Black Riddler. I'm pretty sure we're just doing a little "WHAT IF?" sort of thing.

and yeah, there's room for Black characters in Batman. Like Crispus Allen and....

uh,...hmmm...

erm...

David Tennant................final.:brucebat:

Steve Buscemi's my favourite suggestion so far. We have no idea whether there'll even be a third film, let alone whether The Riddler will appear in it. But, for the f*** of it, Buscemi has that crazed, manic, and slightly diminutive look, and he reminds me of Tim Sale's depiction of the character.

I'm not really worried about who Nolan will pick to play The Riddler, and Nolan is not stupid enough to cast just another Jim Carrey IMHO.
:bh:

For a long time, Don Cheadle was in my shortlist to play The Riddler. He might be a little too old now, though, since Nolan seems to be skewing young with a lot of the casting...

Casey Affleck, Giovanni Ribisi or David Hyde Peirce.

All would play three incredibly different Riddler's.

I think Edward Norton could make a super Riddler, but theres little to no chance of that happening now.

hmmm..that's more like Egon Spengler from the ghosbusters

I think David Tennant has become a very popular choice for the role of The Riddler, because he's gone on record in interviews saying that he wants the part.

I find that really annoying.

That didn't help Glover or Josh Lucas win the role of joker and dent, respectively.

I think he will be great, if Nolan uses Riddler in the 3rd movie he cast Tennant.

Well that's the two were running up to serious competition. :o :brucebat:

However, I really do think Tennant has the right look, style, and overall probably has the most potential of bein' the Riddler; and if he and Nolan work on it what wrong can be done. That and even on tv he's a pretty kickass actor. :cwink: :woot:

mm..

It IS about time that Johnny Depp got into a comic book movie. He may be rumored to be in Sin City 3, but I'd rather he make a huge splash in Nolan's Batman world as Riddler and give us a performance just as stunning as Ledger's seems to be. He would steal the show.

Besides, he can't bank on his pal Tim Burton doing Batman anymore... That ship has sailed.

aww man Joaquin Phoenix should have played harvey dent, why didn't that happen, not a knock on Aaron Eckhart, but Phoenix has a great dark side.
