The Avengers The Robert Downey Jr/Iron Man Thread

I gotta say I loved seeing Pepper & Tony in a full blown romance. Downey & Paltrow have great on screen chemistry .

Just saw The Avengers this afternoon. Stark was great. I am glad the movie wasn't IM and Friends, but it was a nice to see
Stark get the chance to end the Chitauri threat with the nuke since IM was the film that started this whole amazing concept.

As usual RDJ was great as IM/Tony Stark, I loved his interactions with Captain America most of all.

Pepper was looking pretty damn sexy in her opening scene wearing short shorts.

Something about seeing a girl dressed down I find very attractive. Even more so with Pepper since all we've ever seen her in up until this point was either in business attire or a fancy dress.

Plus she was barefoot, just goes to show how much more comfortable she is with Tony and that they don't think being in a relationship is weird at all. yay Them! Do they even have a legal shipper name?

All my friends adored that he hacks people's radio's to make a cooler entrance.

Agreed, But you could also see Tony was somewhat jealous about how his Dad adored Steve Rogers based on the comment he made to Banner in the wishbone lab after Cap leaves to investigate S.H.I.E.L.D intentions for the cosmic cube.

But I loved to see how at the end, Tony decided to step back and hand the reins to Steve. 'Call it, Cap.' Love it.

Kudos for Whedon to acknowledge that Tony Stark while being focused/sober is Avenger's strategic mind while Steve is the tactical mind. Stark knows that something is not right in the carrier so he asked everyone to look for evidences.

So Stark from the comic book got these traits:
- Strategic mind rivaling Fury and the Black Panther
- Pragmatic, most efficient solution seeker
- Hard to get focused on anything yet a multitasker par excellence
- Suicidal tendencies
- Pleasure seeker yet don't think he never prep like mad

Whedon got them all!

I am curious what happened to the whole "We only want you as a consultant" arc. Obviously he more or less involved himself, but did Stark build the Helicarrier, etc?

Very true, I can't forget about that scene. :word:

I gotta say, I think this was his best performance as Stark in all his appearances. There were some scenes that really registered emotionally where you felt it in your bones.

"We are NOT soldiers!"

I love that when Stark confronts Loki in Stark tower as Iron Man, he basically says this is for Coulson . The guy he previously brushed off in Iron Man 1 and tried to manipulate in Iron Man 2, Stark ends up fighting in his honor.

This. He was still Stark with an attitude but on a more intimate level. I loved the chemistry between him and MR's Hulk too. Both of them trying to figure out what

SHIELD was hiding while trying to convince Cap was gold. I need Banner to make a cameo in IM3. They're two super smart guys with personality issues. Win/Win!

Yeah, I absolutely loved how Stark and Banner got along. Loved their scenes together in the lab like you mentioned. Especially when Loki was talking over the scenes of character to Widow. Just seeing them work together as scientists and getting along was a great moment that I loved. And them going off in the car together in the end.

I'm starting to think if Norton was in this, they wouldn't have had the same kind of dynamic and chemistry RDJ and Ruffalo had. Norton's Banner seemed too serious to match in this context.

Ruffalo had a perfect balance. Likeable, no longer angsty, but more humorous and when it was time to be serious, he brought it. Even the references from TIH it felt as if he had been in TIH instead of Norton. Ruffalo was aces.

Agree with all of you--Tony really has a great character development and Whedon brought him to us in the perfect Stark-patented package. Plus RDJ does a great job in bringing in the emotion especially after [BLACKOUT]Coulson's death [/BLACKOUT]and in the final scene with the nuke, which simply ripped my heart from my chest. Fantastic.

I definitely liked on how
Stark was the only one that had faith in Banner and was trying to encourage him to embrace being a hero. It was definitely a new and great side/layer to see from Stark's character.

What's better than RDJ's Tony STark? RDJ's Tony Stark spitting out Whedon dialogue. What's better than RDJ's Tony Stark spitting out Whedon dialogue? RDJ's Tony Stark spitting out Whedon dialogue against Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts. :D

Seriously, there were so many great lines he had. Whether it's off the cuff remarks about Shakespeare in the Park, Reindeer Games, Rock of Ages, Legolas or what have you. I just laughed heartily.

It took me a while to realize that Tony was wearing his Iron Man 2 (Mark VI?) suit for most of the movie and he had used his "I can only use it once" laser cutter when taking the debris out of the turbine of the Hellicarrier...
