The Avengers The Robert Downey Jr/Iron Man Thread

I don't think that the creator of these gifs wanted to fool people. Esp. on tumblr people like to take things out of context just to make it more funny, etc. That's how "memes" come to life.

You shouldn't feel bad or disappointed - all is well :)

And yes, he loves his kitten and I think it's great that he's so vocal about them and how much he adores them.

I know about Tumblr and its ways. There have been some really good gif parodies there. I'm just annoyed that I shared one as if it was real. My bad, a minor annoyance at best.

I knew about RDJ's kittens because I had read the Men's Health article on him a couple of months ago. (Only RDJ on the cover could induce me to pick up that magazine. :yay:) A lot of men won't admit to liking cats so I was very impressed with how open he was about his kittens.

It's his birthday? HAPPY BIRTHDAY RDJ!

I think the great thing about him as Stark is, he lives the character, he breathes the character. It just seems to come so naturally to him, which is perfect because it makes his "in character" reactions so believable.

Yes, he really did an outstanding job with embodying and embracing Tony's character. And you can tell that Tony's traits somewhat infiltrated his own behaviour, though only during public appearances. Because acting like Stark gives him so much more self-confidence and I think in this way he is also able to seperate his public persona better from his private one.
Unfortunately, he is so good that a lot of people think he actually is like Tony Stark and therefore they don't give him much credit in the acting department. Because how hard could it be to act like oneself ;)
But in reality he's far from being like that and when one reads his interviews intensively, reading through the lines, looking behind his mask during tv shows one can sense that he is much more sensitive, thoughtful, heartily, devoted, loving and far less self-obsessed and egocentric than so many people picture him in their minds.

Nice to hear. A friend of mine actually met him at the London premiere of SH:aGoS, and found to be great and cool. He said RDJ stayed out talking to fans and signing autographs way beyond all the other stars and had to be coaxed inside for the start of the movie. He does sound like a great guy. MARVEL is soooo lucky to have him as our #1 Ace-in-the hole!!!!!!!

I can confirm your story because I attended this premiere as well. Also, the weather wasn't the nicest - typical for this region ;)
Marvel is truely lucky to have him, there aren't many actors as devoted as him! Hopefully, he'll stay with Marvel for a few more years.

I've read hints that Iron Man's Mark VIII armor will have some sort of radical design for fighting the aliens. That makes me wonder whether they'll pull from previous designs in the comics, such as the Hulkbuster armor. A version of the Space Armor would be great to see on screen.

(By the way, does anyone know where the armor images below originated?)

The Prometheum one, as with all things Reborn, was God-awful. :(

Are we sure that he'll indeed be wearing a Mark VIII suit when fighting the aliens? So far in clips, we see him wearing a suit with gray-colored areas and a jetpack, which I assume is the Mark VII from the toys and statues I've seen it listed as, and the Mark VI suit from the end of IM2. It was understandable for him to so often in the first Iron Man movie, but I just don't see them using 3 different suits in one movie like this and have him go in the middle of the invasion back to Stark Tower for another suit.

Someone here, I think maybe Poni_Boy, said that in the set visit they saw the Mark VIII suit, whether art or a mock-up. It's supposedly being saved for an end-of-film reveal, after the Mark VII gets destroyed during the battle. Personally, I love that Tony has so many different armors so I hope this is so.

Yeah, I remember Poni_Boy saying something like that but there's been no real confirmation from anyone else. So will it be for a lead-in to IM3 or is it going to be used by Tony in battle? That's my big question if it does exist.

I like how Iron Man changes and upgrades his armor too, but I do want him to spend a healthy amount of time in each suit before rushing off to the next one.

I agree, one of the best Iron Man pictures released so far, here's two of my other favorites.

Marvel released a special comics app about Iron Man and the development of all his suits but it's not nearly as detailed because it's the MCU version. It's pretty great though and it made me laugh because it was so clever. At the end Pepper gives him a special arm band that stored magnetic flow. I wasn't sure at first what that was supposed to mean, then I remembered he was a wearing something similar in the 'genius billionare playboy philanthrophist' scene. Check it out, it's cool and it's free!

Someone posted that link to the video on youtube a few weeks ago, I watched it and it was awesome. :stark:

Adi Granov concept art of the VII. I gotta say, this is fast becoming my favourite suit yet.

^ Dear God, Iron Man looks badass in this picture and those smoking repulsors are sweeeeeeet. :im:

I love all of IM's red & gold suits from Mark III-Mark VII, but I think I might have to agree with Mark VII becoming my favorite

Yeah, after looking it over again I'm thinking this armor's my favorite. The grey pieces actually make sense and aren't distracting, unlike the MkVI

So there are only two armors in this movie? The beginning armor with the triangle, and the final battle with the circle? I was really hoping for a third armor we hadn't seen any footage for yet.
