The idea that Thor was just holding back in ALL the comic issues up until recently is the most ******ed thing I've ever heard. Does that mean that even on those numerous times when he appeared to be losing and innocent people's lives he still just "held back"? Why?! Just for fun? Ridiculous and stupid. Him being more powerful due to Thor Force or whatever makes sense, but that line about him holding back was just stupid.

Lets face it when your the strongest you gotta hold back unless your the Hulk who can no regard for property or the lives that may be lost. Like what Superman said to Darkside in the Justice League finalily that living among humans makes him feel like he's living in world of glass. That he had to be careful never to loose control never to unleash his full power.

the 'continually holding back' has been a corner stone of plenty of heroes, even people like spidey apparently continually hold back.

Strongest in Marvel I say Silver Surfer I saw Incredible Hulk wind up on Surfer and when the Hulk hit him the Surfer didn't even move. He was too busy trying to figure out how strong he is and where his strength is coming from. After Surfer I gotta say Thor in his current series he told Stark that this whole time he has been holding back. Now Thor doesn't just have his strength but he is doubling up cause after Odin died in got Odin's power too not to mention the power he got from his real mother the spirit of Earth Gaea.

My vote goes to the Surfer as well, in a properly writtin fight, I think Surfer would deal with Thor pretty easily.

I think Surfer is the strongest but he's no fighter. He only fights cause he has too. I pick Thor in a fight against all in the Marvel Universe and beyond. Most heroes with great power don't have the knowledge or will to be great fighters. Thor is a warrior first, with lifetimes of experience in hand to hand combat, and weapons.

I can't believe this thread is still going. . .

The difference is that Thor jumped up in power levels considerably and at first the claim of him just holding back before supposedly applied to the fact that he had ALWAYS been weaker before, even when, in past fights, he was taken out by opponents. THAT makes NO SENSE!
When Thor was getting beaten up like a kid by Count Nefaria, it was just because he was holding back? Bullcrap.

Occasionally holding back? Sure.

as I've always said the Hulk is potentially the Strongest physically but NOT the most powerful! The most powerful non-cosmic entities in MU would be Silver Surfer and Sentry. Since Thor is now the head of the Norse Pantheon and has the Odin/Thor Force he is technicially no longer a regular MU character but a Cosmic Entity!?

Seconded

Surfer is overrated in terms of power IMO.

The title of this thread is "strongest in the MU" so how can surfer qualify for this when he was created by another existing character (Galactus) and serves as his assistant?

I like Surfur..a lot..but I don't see how being "the most powerful" is integral to his character.

He is fairly badass...and thats important..but I dont see many injustices of depiction on his power levels.

IMO the biggest injustice ..is that the "searcher" is fundamental to his being..which is why i find his present situation as re-heralded stupid and gay.

Yeah, Surfer has probably been the surfer for 20 years Marvel time (if that) and was a normal person before that.

Thor has AGES and hundreds of years of combat experience.

didn't sentry beat terrax in about 3 seconds. I think on a mentally healthy day hes the strongest

I don't think the Surfer is overrated in power since it allows him to manipulate and transmute matter . All forms of matter to from energy to organic. I too don't like the fact he is a Herald(assistant) again but Galactus is force of nature that is pretty much a god. I mean Galactus eats planets imagine if he decided to pig out.

There have been conflicting accounts of how long the Surfer was Galactus' herald. According to one account it was about 300 years. According to another in the '90's it was about 50 years I think.

I thought this thread wasnt taking cosmic being's into account. And I dont think he over-rated in terms of power at all. In 'In Thy Name' he even says he could wipe out 2 galactic army forces who are fighting each other 'with a wave of my hand.' Thats not power to be taken lightly.

Which never seams to help him when he fights The Hulk, The Hulk always beats him, so would the Surfer IMO.

That's so true. Thor's ages worth of experience don't help him against a brute with less experience than an mma fighter lol.

I still say Sentry is most powerful.

Exactly, people bring up his years of experience and then The Hulk practically hands his ass to him every time, Surfer is more powerful than Hulk, so he would deal with Thor pretty easily IMO.

Hulk is a conventional figther he fights with rage, rage fighters are unpredictable they keep you off guard. Ooly way to beat them is to keep a cool head and use their anger against them. What chance will give the Hulk now against Thor? Who dispatched Iron Man with ease of putting on jeans.

Probably about the same as before. Most writers seem to perceive Thor as being beneath the Hulk, so most of their fights end up with Thor looking like a ******.

Everytime Hulk fans start to give you crap, Corp, you just remind them that The Thing gives the Hulk a hard time EVERY time they scrap.

:thing: :thing: :thing:

To which they'll respond, "Yeah, but he only beat him once when he was much stronger and the Hulk was much weaker so it doesn't even count anyway lolz!!!1111" Thor gives the Hulk a tough fight about half the time himself, but all that matters for the hardcore Hulk fans is the end result. There's no reasoning with them.
