The belt is a little smaller and straighter in this one, as per requests.

Honestly I can't even notice it being any straighter here, but I'm liking this the more I see it. I like everything else about the MOS suit, but now that I've seen it with a red and yellow belt I think that's exactly what it's missing. The belt really completes the suit, and blends nice with those patterns on the waste. He looks less naked, and the addition of red around the midsection makes me forget all about the missing trunks.

Is that the Batman Begins belt? I like the idea of a full belt, red for the wrap around part, but a yellow ellipse for the buckle. But NOT a utility belt. Superman doesn't wear those. Nor does he need to.

Here is a manip I color corrected for like an hour to show how the MOS suit should be colored imho. I like a deeper more vibrant blue really and it seems more hopeful :D

That looks good, but the red of the \S/ looks a little washed out, especially in contrast to the cape in that pic. Make the \S/ look a little more red like the cape and it'll be perfect, IMO.

The piping/designs seemed a bit superfluous at first, but when you see Superman wear it, it makes the suit dynamic in movement, elegant when posed. I just think it's simply AWESOME! I hope the changes will be minor *keeping fingers crossed*

Yeah, in my book, the MOS costume is the BEST superhero costume we've ever gotten in ANY comic book movie. It's very faithful to its comic book counterpart, only with a few minor tweaks to make it look more alien than what we've seen before. I'm hoping any changes are like the ones to the Spidey suit in Spider-Man 2... very, very subtle ones that do nothing more than make the suit pop a little more.

How's this?

EDIT: I just realised I mistakenly edited fanboii's edited pics (S shied is bigger) since I had them on my PC. Sorry fanboii!

Maybe it's just because I'm used to seeing the thick yellow belt and red underwear, but having red and yellow in the midsection makes the colors look more balanced. Reducing both those colors down to the belt is a good compromise.

Just for fun, I added a belt using Jor el's as a base. There really needs to be a little more of a belt than his from MOS. Mine might be a bit oversized or the wrong color, idk. It was for fun anyway...

I like this. We can diss on the New 52 costume all we want (high cuffs and collars blurgh) but if you're gonna remove the trunks, you need something fairly sizable and predominantly the same color to take their place. The red belt is so far the best way to go. And I think your first manip was about the right size. That's the problem with the MOS 'belt'. It was too thin and unnoticeable.

Watching the film I never once thought that it looked too monochrome. That should say something about the overall design. Anything more than what they've done is unnecessary.

For what does Superman use his belt? I seem to remember him once producing a quarter from it to use a pay phone, but nothing else.

he's hidden a Kryptonite ring in the belt buckle (which is lead lined) and used it on Kara when she was brainwashed by Darkseid.

True. It works in the film because the filter is so dark. It's like the Batman effect. Nolan used lighting in Batman Begins to hide the rubbery folds and that in the suit.

If Snyder does lighten up the colors of the suit in BvS, the 'sea of blue' will become very noticeable when he doesn't hide alot of it in shadow. I'd rather it didn't look like a one-piece, and was more balanced by a red element in the middle.

it's not that any of you are bad manippers, it's just that all these suit manips seem so unnecessary...

All they should do is brighten up the blue on the suit

I think attempts to add red to the midsection or belt in the name of "balance" are completely misguided. If they were to change the belt, they should just make the gold belt more prominent. It is the third colour of his costume and replacing it with red undermines the suit's balance. We have already lost the gold/yellow shield on the cape.

Rather, a red belt competes for visual attention with the S shield. A gold belt complements the gold group of the shield and gives better visual harmony. We do not need red at the waistline to replace the trunks. If there are to make any changes to the suit besides brightening the colours, then it should just be to tweak the current belt to be larger and more prominent.

No website or member that posted this pic has received any type of cease and desist recommendation from the WB. I would be very surprised if this ends up being of much importance. I think if it was truly the textural look and direction they are changing to, the WB would have been having it yanked off the internet.

I like the blue. Looks great.

I hate these manips with a full-on belt. Not because your manips aren't good but because a belt is pointless without pants (unless your Batman). The MOS route was just the right touch to have something in the midsection to be reminiscent of the classic suit without it having a belt just floating there. Not surprisingly, the new 52 concept artist thought a floating belt made sense...

Seriously hate any type of belt on the MOS costume. The only thing they need to do is not use the really dark filters.

That looks nice.
I wasn't bothered by the muted colors on MOS at all myself.
I liked it..
Kind of reminded me of the colors in the old Fleischer cartoons.

Wouldn't mind if the brightened it up a bit though.

How is a floating belt objectively worse than the floating "belt buckle" on the MOS suit? One could argue from a functional standpoint the MOS one is worse because it also tried to implement a quasi-belt strap without it actually being a belt. That's the very definition of being there just for the sake of being there.

I love the MOS suit, but the midsection is definitely a weak point for that reason alone.

Because you're taking a poor design concept (objectively speaking) and enhancing it with a full-on belt.

Ever hear of "form follows function"? MOS absolutely fails in that regard, in spite of perhaps looking better than the full-on belt manips we've seen in the past.

My disdain for a full-on belt looms but I totally agree with you in that regard.

Something similar to this would be awesome to me. I really like how the cape connects to the symbol and I think the yellow belt is better than the red.
