BvS The Superman suit Thread - Part 1

See. This is the misconception.

When Zack Snyder commented on the lack of trunks, he did say that the trunks didn't work.

HOWEVER, when he said that, it was in direct reference to the trunks not working with the alien origin they had in mind for the suit in MOS.

The thought process was that the trunks, inspired by the circus strongmen of the 20s and 30s, was a very earthly convention, and didn't work with the idea that the suit in the first film was created by Kryptonian technology. This, being compounded by the fact that all Kryptonians wore this undersuit.

So yeah, that's why it wasn't used. But now that they aren't limited by that, there's no reason they can't add them.

While this sounds logical, I reckon there was more than one reason for not including the trunks. I'm sure the fact that many people think they are dorky and out dated was brought up. Those things are still an issue and considering we finally have a decent looking trunkless suit, I doubt they'll use them. It would be silly. Why would he choose to put undies over his pants? I won't say they'd never add them, but it's really unlikely and would be nonsensical.

See, here's what I don't like.

Alone, the suit's proportions look fine. And on his own, Cavill's proportions look fine. But when he's in the suit, it often has a very bloated look. And I worry it's because they went too heavy on the muscle padding, not taking in consideration how much Cavill would increase the size once in suit.

The muscle padding is actually crafted based on Cavill's size and muscles, so when he's in it...... his size is doubling. And that's not good. The muscle padding should only be accentuating his muscle definition and relative size he already has.

Hopefully they took notice of all that and made adjustments. And considering that Frontline didn't do the suits this time around, there's a decent chance.

I'm not sure you are seeing things accurately... after seeing all the suits lined up together in person you get a proper view of things inherent in the MOS suit. First off, WB seems to have used a similar mannequin under each suit to give a similar Supes body look across the board for the display. When viewing the Christopher worn suits, SR, and the MOS suit next to each other you get a true idea of what little padding is actually in the MOS suit. It really is a thin suit only molded to Cavill's shape to keep/enhance the definition, not the size.

First of all, if there's any problem with my grammar i apologize. It's been a while since i use my english to explain something.

Now, to the suit. This was actually one of my biggest concerns before the movie came out.

It wasnt the suit that had me worried, i actually loved it, took a while to get used with the no trunks policy, but it grew on me. The problem to me, were the colors, or the lack of them.

I understand the need of making a darker tone film. Time's changed, people too. A darker movie sell's these days, and thats fine. Loved the film, trully loved it. Had no problem with it's darker tone. I did have a problem with Supes dark costume though. I remember being a kid, and every single time i saw the red yellow and blue colors somwhere i'd instantly remember superman and be all happy about it :woot:.

When you see supes on a scene you should see this :

Do you really need to make a darker superman costume to fit with the film? In my opinion, NO. Not at all. Supes HAS to stand out. He is a symbol of hope, he is supposed to shine and bring light on those who need it. An example of what i would like :

Now THAT will stand out. Even if you see his blur you'll say ''Hey, now that is Superman''.

Let's take this thinking to the comic books. ( Sorry about this, i did it quickly but i think it serves to prove a point ).

To the left, the MOS suit. To the right, Same suit, but with the colors he deserves and needs. The flag is to contrast my thinking of it.

"The colors of the pales (the vertical stripes) are those used in the flag of the United States of America; White signifies purity and innocence, Red, hardiness & valour, and Blue, the color of the Chief (the broad band above the stripes) signifies vigilance, perseverance & justice."

The colors do have meaning, and they are powerfull in it's own way. If you make them dark as hell, they loose their significance and purpose.

Well, once again, sorry for my english. I hope everyone understood what i meant.

Cheers:yay:

Your English is fine! I totally agree with you. Even though I loved the MoS suit as it was, I too thought that the colors just didn't quite fit the character. However, I understand that they fit into this Snyder-made universe at that time. The suit was originally a Kryponian undersuit (which I still don't completely understand, since his parents and Zod both had grey/black undersuits - is this red/blue/yellow suit a dress suit or something?)...anyway, maybe now that he is trying to align himself more as an Earth hero, maybe they'll reduce the texture a bit and slightly brighten the colors a little more for the sake, as you say, of making him stand out more. I'd be on-board with both of those changes personally.

Wow, never noticed how "off" the blue on the SR suit was.

I never understood why the \S/ was so small on the SR suit...

The maker of that video seems to have an unrealistic expectation of our interest in Clark Kent's khaki jacket.

Incorrect. Dad Jor-El's underwear was actually blue with red cape. Father like son...but his scenes had even darker lighting.

Always wandered if that was kal-el's suit. You can see that the boots are not red.

Also the \S/ wasn't the same was it?

The \S/ was a Gold throughout the entire shield on Jor-El's but without the red accent on the S to pop.

I know it's been discussed, but I really like the way Superman's suit represents a sort of brighter, more hopeful and less tarnished "Kryptonian" ideal compared to what even Jor-El wore. They really did a nice job with the costumes conveying things visually.

Snyder's film are always good to look at. To be honest, I think he'd make a better DoP than director.

i agree...and since he mentioned that he is a big fan of heavy metal he should team up with robert rodriguez and make this a live action movie (r rated of course)

I know a lot of people don't care, but i think i'd really love to see the yellow S on the cape.
