Mannequin is definitely smaller than Cavill:

And it seems that abs are wrongly positioned on the mannequin. Either that, or it's supposed to lean to the left a bit.

I noticed that too. They just didn't pay the same amount of attention to the display of the last son of Krypton as they did the princess and the knight.

And I LOVE that set pic!!

*facepalm*...

guys, the mannequin is just there to showcase the suit, not the build of the actor

This is like the time the MOS suit was on display and the mannequin used was smaller than Cavill leading to sleeves to be a little scrunched up.

apparently, some people weren't... people were complaining about how the build is smaller than Batman's...

my point is, it really doesnt matter since it's purpose is to showcase the suit itself, and not the body

It seems like every single thing has been changed to some degree. Like how the MoS suit would look if someone were told to recreate it based on descriptions rather than actually seeing it.

This is a good complaint, but I never thought i'd see the day where i'm thinking the actor thats playing supes is almost to big lol.

In that case it's failing to show the suit in it's full glory as it was intended aesthetically or anatomically by not filling it out to its proper proportions.

then the only way you're going to be satisfied is if you go and watch the movie when it comes out :)

That comparison really puts the mannequin to shame. I hear some of the posters complaints. If I were at an expo and getting close hi-res photos of the suit with my camera, I would want the suit to be presented in the best possible way.

The mannequin is a very poor representation of the suit in the sense the suit itself doesn't have a shape, the body shapes it, so the body is very much a part of the suit in that way.

The comic book anatomy is one of the major reasons Cavill's suit looks so great. So they are doing the suit a disservice by presenting it this way.

Now imagine seeing the suit this way in Madame Tussauds. I'd personally feel I didn't get my money's worth.

I'd be very fine with a movie Superman with that mannequin's proportions. That "muscles on top of muscles" look they went for in BVS doesn't look bad, but he shouldn't need outrageous bulk to create a striking impression. He's a tall guy with a cape who flies; if everyone's doing their job right, that should do it.

I feel like they went for a TDKR build for Superman.

Probably Miller's inability to draw human body without it looking like this:

But there's no resemblance here I can see. He is just a bit bigger in BvS than in MOS, that's all.

Look at his thighs and tell me it's not influenced by Superman's TDKReturns look. His being that much bigger, with those size thighs, say to me that he has a bigger physique because he has a bigger physique in TDKReturns. I'm not saying he looks exactly like the TDKR depiction, but I definitely think his physique is that big because of influence from TDKR, and that it's meant to compare with the bulkiness of the armored Batsuit, as in TDKR.

But there are many instances when Superman had bigger physique, looking this big and even bigger aside from TDKR. TDKR "look" (or as I'd call it, Miller's inability to draw normal human body) would require him to look both big and "blocky", having that particular barrel build, which he doesn't have here. I can kind of see it with Affleck's Batman, but not with Cavill's Superman.

I think it's more influenced by Henry Cavill being incredibly dedicated to his role, already having a base of training, and wanting to look as much like the character as possible. Most depictions of Superman are pretty huge - he's supposed to be larger than life. Probably also to counter all the people who always say actors never bring it physically the same way for the sequel. :cwink:

Or perhaps he's based on Jim Lee's Superman. Or Ed McGuinness's. Or Michael Turner's.

You only need to glance at a few comicbook covers from the last 30 years to understand that a lot of artists give the heroes absurd proportions.

Thanks for the educational post.
Thanks for reading. :) I felt like it might be worthwhile to chime in with my knowledge on the subject and provide some clarity amidst the ever-present debate over "teh filters". :p

The most ridiculous proportions from that set photo, at least in my view, is the forearms. Cavill's legs could pass for being that size before his forearms.

haha holy hell you're right! His forearms are huuuuuuuuuuge!
