BvS The Superman Suit Thread - Part 3

Of course the forearms are padded and the proportions over the top. I think it is great. I am all for the exaggerated, larger than life look for Superman. Its superman! Done by Snyder!

And I hope this over-the-topness of the 3 superheros appearance extends to the movie also. I think Snyder is best when he goes comic bookey like in 300 and Watchmen. No sobriety this time please to reign him in. I think he should crank it up and go all out.

the ONLY problem with the BvS superman suit is that the belt is bigger. It reminds me of the new 52. ugh

I don't see how, it doesn't resemble the new 52 belt in any way shape or form?

just the whole enlarging of the side plate, and the bigger middle buckle thing makes it look like a belt. It just makes it look like he's wearing a full on belt. Can't stand it

Well isn't it supposed to be reminiscent of belt he wears in the comics anyway? As long as it is not actual belt, I have no problem with design being such that it reminds of one.

Mannequin is definitely smaller than Cavill:

And it seems that abs are wrongly positioned on the mannequin. Either that, or it's supposed to lean to the left a bit.

A couple of things which are causing, or at the very least exaggerating this.

First, Henry is suspended from a harness, and he is relaxing, with the wires going up behind his shoulders. This means that his shoulders are being forced forward and up, giving him an even larger appearance. The mannequin, on the other hand, is posed shoulders back, chest forward. This actually makes the mannequins chest look a little bigger than Henry's. You can really see the difference in looking at the \S/ in both pics. On Henry it is more flat across, and the mannequin, more bulged out.

Second, The set pic was taken from much further back, with a tighter lens, whereas the mannequin is being shot from much closer, and with a wider lens.
This further exaggerates all of the above, making the mannequins chest look slightly more forward, and his shoulders slightly more back, and just capturing less of the width in general.

How about now?

While everything you're saying makes sense, and surely adds to difference in appearance, mannequin is still smaller than Cavill.

Still cannot stand how small the symbol looks here...I hope it looks better in film

Yes, absolutely. He is likely (almost certainly) bigger than the mannequin, but it's certainly exaggerated in the original pics.

Wow, that's really good.

You know, I was over in that "best superhero costume" thread in the comic movies forum, and I was surprised to see how many votes the 1978 Superman suit got. I mean, for its time, it was good, but I think people overrate that suit simply because of the actor in it. There's no doubt that Chris Reeve was phenomenal as Superman, but if we're just talking about the suit itself, IMO, it doesn't hold a candle to the MOS and BvS Superman suits. I mean seriously, it's just some tights and a cape, and the S symbol doesn't even look that great. Like I said, for its time it was fine, but the only thing I find great about that suit is the guy who wore it.

Agree Rows. The art above your post is a perfect example of the best superhero costume, but Batflecks is a close second ;)

Yeah, whatever this movie turns out to be, Snyder and Wilkinson at the very least knocked it out of the park in the costume department. And by that I mean that the Batman and Superman suits trump EVERY other costume we've seeing in a CBM before, except maybe for Iron Man.

Not even the chest I think. Even the mannequin's chest is smaller than Cavill's. That mannequin looks like a shrimp next to Cavill, or Superboy (or Brandon Routh :oldrazz:) to Cavill's Superman.

Your leading man being so incredibly buff that even custom made statues cannot match up must be the definition of a first world problem. :funny:

Oh but he isn't the leading man, the leading man's that other fellow! :cwink:

I prefer the superman suit as well as over the batman suit. The only two reservations about the Superman suit are the smaller shield and the rectangular belt as opposed to the elliptical one.

Cavill won the mannequin. welldone. lol

Cav-El looks a bit like he was caught *********ing in that picture above.

And we all wore red capes to cover ourselves in shame.

Or was it just me?

Don't forget WW! I love that costume. Respectful, but functional.

Some were concerned with the smaller S-shield but it doesn't look small in the EW photo with the people trying to touch him.

I'm sure most know that I'm one of those people, I really didn't like the smaller S but I have to say, it looks great in the EW photo. It just works you know? Almost looks like it fits better.
