BvS The Superman Suit Thread - Part 4

Having just picked up this month's Empire, I can report that the spit curl is most definitely on: there are two pictures that show him with it. I think it forms at about the time of his confrontation with Batman.

Not sure who made these, but these simple changes make the costume look so much better. The costume itself isn't even that bad, it's just that there are too many
Little things that make it look... Not so great.

For those who say Routh didn't have the body for Superman, I think it was more the suit than anything. Routh is actually pretty built and muscular. He does have a long torso imo, which may make him look less muscular, especially in conjunction with the SR suit and it's tiny little S shield emblem.

I think he's he might even be bigger now too.

He most definitely is. Have you seen him in Arrow? *fans self*

I don't buy that Welling had such as clause in his contract in the beginning. Mostly because he was a nobody. I can buy him doing it years later when he got more power and even became a producer.

He wasn't the one who put it there. Though I'm sure he didn't want it taken out once the series creators left.

Seeing Routh on Arrow made me think that a lot of what was wrong with SR was in the timing of his performance. If he was a few years older, he would look more masculine.

But I'm more than glad we got Henry. I really think Superman was a role Henry was born to play.

It wasn't just his look back then, or his costume. He barely had any screen presence. He's since improved, but his Superman had no discernible personality. Granted, the script didn't help, but he still didn't do much with what he was given. And I can't believe that whoever directs weekly episodes of a mediocre show like Arrow is THAT much better at getting performances out of actors than Bryan Singer. People need to stop absolving Routh from all blame. He's turned himself into a decent actor now. But back then? He was clearly in over his head.

Where did you hear he actually had the clause? Because like I said, I find it really hard to believe a nobody actor with his first major role could negotiate such a thing at the start of the show.

I think this is where genetics comes into play. Wasn't Routh older than Reeve when he got the role, was technically playing an older Superman, but still looked younger?

I still part of it comes down to the way the character was written. There just wasn't much to work with. He was more entertaining and fun to watch as a super powered vegan than Kryptonian. :woot:

I'm definitely not complaining about Cavill, though. So perfect.

Ha, yeah. I'd forgotten about Scott Pilgrim - Rough showed that he had real comedic chops there.

Routh had a nasily voice. Reeve, Cavill, even Welling had a very smooth and manly voice.

Routh sounded like a nerd as Superman.

He's great as ATOM.

Is the spit curl really that important? I'm just curious. Not a Superman aficionado like ya'll.

For some people it is. I couldn't really care about it as much as others here do.

It isn't important at all, just a little visual signifier like Sherlock Holmes's pipe. I am pleased that it makes an appearance, however.

It's not that important to me. If they include it, that's great (unless it looks as stupid as it did in SR). If they don't...whatever.

No that was all CGI. He never once put on the suit because he didn't want to be known or type cast as Superman. They offered him Reeve suit and he said no and then they offered the SR suit and he said no. He didn't want to wear a suit so they CGI it on him.
Wtf? :funny:

I always feel like I should be wearing latex gloves and goggles when entering threads of the yester-years.

Doesn't mean jack to me, infact I'd rather not see it in live action because it ALWAYS looks ridicules, which is sad because both Dean Cain and Cavill have natural S curls that would've looked nice on screen instead they both look like they just stepped out of a gel bath.
