The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Batsuit Discussion Thread IX

^That looks ridiculous, I dont think anyone wants it translated in that way.

Posted this earlier in the main forum as a discussion about the movie suits. Thought some might like to see it as an answer to whether or not a comic style suit could work. Love the quality of Nolans work but hate how far its strayed from the character in the books.

Not bad. I'd like the gray to be a tad darker though. More charcoal gray.

That looks better now while were at it lets remove those awful cape clasps I always hated them.

Believe me my friend I know exactly what Im talking about as well and it is possible to get almost that big in that amount of time, especially with all of his time spent building his body everyday not to mention all the supplements and drug enhancers available to him from his "hollywood" nutritionist.

I know theres padding in the suit and I know Bale was bigger as well, but if I recall didnt Bale get even bigger then he was in BB before cutting down for shooting, after being in machinist shape in lets see about 8 months?

Bale did get bigger than he was in the film, but he wasn't as lean as the suit makes Cavil look. "Bigger" should be taken with a grain of salt because it almost certainly means fatter in Bale's case. And it's an entirely different thing when you're coming back from an emaciated state like The Machinist while you used to be in top shape like in American Psycho. Building new muscle on top of an already decent shape is infinitely harder than getting back from a detrained and starved condition if you used to be ripped. There are limits to how fast the body can gain new muscle, they are very real and very well known and can't be circumvented by such a large margin even with the assistance of certain "supplements". You say he had trainers, diet, "hollywood" nutritionists. There are loads of people who do this for a living, paying just as much attention to it if not more, year in year out, and just aren't seeing that kind of a gain. Here's one of the best articles on the subject I've ever read, by Alan Aragon http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/muscle-gain/supplement-marketing-on-steroids-by-alan-aragon.html

Now back on topic, the suit looks fantastic, Cavil has that Superman presence, now it's just the small matter of enduring a couple of years to see him in glorious action.

The oval isn't what bothers me it's that terrible tint of blue on his cowl and gauntlets. Yuck.

Bale did all that, and he was vegetarian at the time.

If you've got personal trainers available to you, cooks and 8 hours a day to train. You're going to make amazing gains. Probably HGH as well for most, if not steroids.

I think the only really padded areas on the Superman suit likely is the torso, and that's mostly the abdominal area.

Totally agree my friend totally agree ;)

I actually like that emblem. But not the purple gauntlets, cowl and cape. Made some changes.

Though I am also a fan of "teh oval", I think that planting it on the Begins suit results in an ugly imitation of the B89 costume.

Are you people serious? in Nolan's Batman universe how does this not look dumb:

Why would Batman in a million years add underwear to his costume? This is not 1939! This suit could look good in a universe made for it. But not Nolan's. Why would Nolan's Batman wear underwear on the outside of his costume? Come on people. When Nolan is done, the WB can create a new Batman universe with Batman underwear.

I think they're saying the suit would look good in a reboot.

If that is what they meant then it is possible. From what has been shown so far, underwear does not work. If someone starts a new film series, then you can create a new suit. Hypotheticals do not belong here.

Tbh I like the idea of Batman wearing something that's a bit more flexible. I'd like to see something like this in the reboot:

Darken the gray and get rid of the ridiculously visible codpiece and we'll talk.

Dont darken the grey the point is to get away from the Black suit its been enough. Its from the comics so films need to get some creative balls and take it back to the comics.

As is it looks like the inverse of the Batman and Robin ice costumes.

The trunk 'look' is easily achievable without resorting to something worn over the "costume". You have legs, pelvis, torso. The pelvis is connected, i.e., integral to the suit, to the legs and torso. The legs and torso are more armored, the pelvis less so (think TDK mail w/o rubber glued on top). The transition from the legs to the torso gives the impression of 'trunks'. However there are no trunks nor is there anything worn on the outside of the costume. This approach works equally well with either a black or black&gray suit.

I thought the retro Captain America suit worked pretty damn well and I know the first look at the modern Cap suit got some decent pop in this thread (though admittedly I wasn't all that enamored with it and that second pic of Cap sitting around the SHIELD table didn't help).

Now we get a really good look and I'm stumped as to how they can get from that retro suit to this:

... it's like the de-serum'd the guy and pumped it all into the gloves and boots.
