I think the reason why the Dark Knight suits "Beak" appears so gigantic, it looks to be a separate piece thats simply not blended to the rest of the cowl. The nose on the Returns cowl looks even bigger from a profile but since its blended in to the rest of the cowl, it doesn't look nearly as massive.

Seriously.
If it were just one flush piece I dont think it would look nearly as bad.

That nose is embarrassingly bad. Just awful.

I have an idea for a cape that had two clasps next to each other at the base of the neck or the cowl. This would allow the cape to wrap around Batman, and approximate the apparent unity of the two seen in the comics and animated series, while still allowing Batman to easily detach it in an emergency.

I remember seeing that Empire pic for the first time and thinking... who the **** shot this??

And what person thought it looked good enough to be plastered over a big selling movie magazine.

The problem with the cowl has traditonally been that it needs to be sturdy just for filming reasons, and so that it's not sloping and flapping and so on, as a simple piece of cloth may be prone to do. Moulded rubber allows for a tight fit to the actors face, which also aids emoting and acting in general.

Of course, it's ludicrous to assume that this is the only way to achieve such things, but the decision not to pursue such an alternative has led to all the problems associated with the trade off of flexibility, and the odd nose, and the lack of visually impressive cowl/cape one piece thingymajig.

We can't expect any huge departure for the next film, but it would be nice if they could solve the problem of the head and neck from the TDK suit.

Haha! And people were criticizing the BR cowl's nose...

DAT KEATON.

To the people posting the stills and promo shots. Did anyone actually notice the nose or have it distract them watching it on film? Be real there's no way it did. Every batman costume we've had can and does look bad depending what stills are posted.

In action I though the TDK suit was great. As for the 89 suit which everyone seems to love i actually thought the oppsite. Keaton's head kept looking like it was gonna pop out of the masks edges every time he moved.

Oddly... the cowl always looked the most awkward on Bale.

Returns, Forever and Batman & Robin each complimented the actors faces/chins brillantly.

The cowl just hasn't always worked for Bale.

Actually it was, it was very distracting in the interrogation scene.

The 89' Batman suit was a good suit/cowl but I thought the general consensus was that the Returns suit and cowl were as good as we've seen on screen.

I noticed it. Especially when he was riding the Batpod. It looked like the mask was two sizes too big for his head.

When the mask was worn correctly it looked fine, but it had a problem of riding down his face. Hopefully they fix that issue.

Haha come on if during the interrogation scene looking at batman's nose was taking you out of the film i think you have some other issue with the movie.

I do happen to like the returns batman suit and do prefer it greatly over the 89 batman. This didn't help:

The nose wasn't that bad in the interrogation scene, but his cape sure as hell was.

I've always loved that emblem.

haha I have that emblem tattooed on my arm. That pic above showing all the batmen in their cowls Bale looks the worst.

the solution to the bat cowl problem is solved in the same way they did for Spiderman...have shell covered with a thinner-non rubber material. That way he can turn his head.

I imagine the cowl he wore while driving the bike was a special helmet-version that was designed to actually offer the stuntman some protection in case of crash.

i think its the neck that kills me. its not smooth like the other cowls

I think that's what we sacrifice, though, for the flexibility of the TDK suit. I'd rather he was able to turn his head than have him looking like he just broke his neck and is wearing a Batsuit-style neck brace.

Sorry I couldn't resist it...

For the record, I do like TDK cowl, I'm sure that they can make it look like the Begins col but with mobility in the neck...

I've always loved that emblem.

I dunno seemed kind of busy for the sake of it. Not sure why they waited til the second movie to use the promo symbol from the 89 film?

I have a few problems with the costume in Begins and TDK. The opening for the mouth is too small. It just looks awkward especially when compared to the cowls used in the other film. The opening around the eyes looks weird to me as well. I liked the more angular look used in the previous franchise. I'm also not a big fan of the cape and cowl being separate pieces. If they fixed those problems I honestly wouldn't have an issue with Nolan's costume. Really, the costume has been the only real issue I've had with the films. Hopefully it's something that is corrected in this film.
