The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Batsuit Discussion Thread IX

Since the Arkham rubber suit is such a hot topic and because I haven't commented on it I'd like to share my opinions.

The suit looks great, it really does. However.... it's not exactly the way I picture a live action Arkham Batsuit. I was always under the impression that the suit was more of a gray uniform and a body armor could be used under the suit to not only protect Batman but to make him look as bulky as the video game character. And the belt looks very awkward. Give Batman an ordinary military belt with the pouches and use the same belt buckle but make it a bit smaller. I love the gauntlets but they need to be slightly shortened. Same with the ears. The suit looks to be pretty exaggerated for the game, such as the fat belt, the long gauntlets, long ears, etc. These aspects would have to be adjusted for live action.

Plus I'm pretty tired of the rubber suits. I want something that's fresh. But knowing WB they might want Batman to continue looking like a life sized action figure because it looks da awesumm for the kids.

I will never stop saying this until they do it....Give Batman a suit made out of the same material as the new MOS Superman suit, that thing looks amazing. It makes TDK suit look like a pile of plastic glued together on a mesh suit.

Agreed.

Zack's movies always have amazing costumes.

Maybe Nolan is so busy filming TDKR that he probably hasn't even seen the M.O.S suit yet?

He probably had very little input in how the suit was designed unless he was working on it before Snyder was brought on board.

I dont think he really had anything to do with the look of the suit I was just curious to know his opinion on it. Im sure hes seen it no matter how busy he is with TDKR he is producing MOS.

Disagree completely.

Snyder stated numerous times during Q&A sessions that he was leaning heavily on the classic 80's suit for the film adaptation. And yet, Snyder chose a nontraditional Superman suit. Coincidence, especially with Nolan on board? I think not.

Nolan is clearly influencing this film's direction. He casted Cavill, and I'm willing to bet my soul that Nolan and his crew clearly had a say in the MOS suit's design.

So far everything looks perfect for Man Of Steel whether it's the cast, the locations or the suit. I'm not the biggest Superman fan but I'm definitely more excited about MOS than TDKR. Of course that may change.

I thought the retro Captain America suit worked pretty damn well and I know the first look at the modern Cap suit got some decent pop in this thread (though admittedly I wasn't all that enamored with it and that second pic of Cap sitting around the SHIELD table didn't help).

Now we get a really good look and I'm stumped as to how they can get from that retro suit to this:

... it's like the de-serum'd the guy and pumped it all into the gloves and boots.

LOL! :barf:

Scarlet suit, boots and hair look like crap also! Way to go Whedon!

I do believe we're still a year away from release and that's only a spy shot, correct?

I'm sure Cap will look awesome in the Avengers.

I wish we had a batsuit in the same material as this! I don't care that Superman is an alien and Batman is human, this could easily be something bulletproof because of movie magic.

I could definately imagine a Batman Earth One type suit if they were to use something like that. I gotta say seeing all these superhero movie costumes isn't really helping me warm to the TDK suit, I thought it looked gash in 2008 now seeing this and the First Avenger suit really highlights how uninspiring the TDK suit is.

How the **** can you tell what his hair looks like while he's wearing a helmet?

I also love how you guys bash the Cap suit when the TDK suit looks completely awful. You know, the suit that is the point of discussion in this ****ing thread?

I think he was talking about ScarJo.

Cap looks pretty awesome in other spy shots.

Wheres the article youve seen that I havent, stating that Nolan is now part of the art and design team for MOS?

Not to me it doesn't. Evans look like he's 12 years old in that photo. I love the TDK suit. I am so happy that it seems to staying around for the bulk of TDKR

Btw, lay off all the swearing.

This.

For the life of me, I'll never understand how so many of you guys seemingly hate this:

I understand it's somewhat busy, I know it's not comic accurate, I could do for a bigger symbol possibly, yeah the mask/cowl is a little weird (the only part I really dislike myself) but I'll be damn if that costume isn't one of the best we've gotten on film yet. I mean really, is it that bad? Seriously? I guess it could be, but man, I don't remember all this when we first saw it. To each his own indeed...

The suit isn't perfect, but it's not terrible either. The main problem to me is the way it's lit.

Nolan and Wally, as talented as they are, don't know how to light Batman. At least not in TDK.

Finally, some sense.

I try.

I do agree with that. It's not even the differing opinions, as that's the reason we're all here anyway, to discuss and debate. It's really the hyperbole, like it's the most atrocious costume ever created or known to man. As if we've somehow forgotten just how bad a Batman suit can really look

It wouldn't be publicly stated. Think of Michael Bay's former partner for The Rock and Armageddon. Jerry kept Michael in check and provided some insight.

Furthermore, WB does not trust the project with Snyder [alone] because of his recent struggles and failures. Nolan is a high caliber director (possibly the best director in Hollywood right now). Thus, his attachment to this project indicates that it's more than "two-cents" advice.

The suit Snyder had in mind contained trunks, bright colors, cotton material, and the S logo located on the cape. Yet, we get a suit with rubber texture, no trunks, dark colors, and a logo-less cape.

That doesn't sound like 'traditional' Zack Snyder to me...
