The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Batsuit Discussion Thread

Yeah I always felt that suit was the B&R Freeze suit of the Nolan series. In the director's 2nd film he feels comfortable enough to distance from the traditional Batman look and create his own outfit that looks quite busy and unusual.

I don't think it'll ever get better than Batman Returns. There's something about Keaton's mouth as well as the wrinkle lines next to his lips that brings an odd sexuality to the whole cowl, and the way that the suit is more a light gray under the lighting... I don't know. It's like a whole other animal with Keaton's bone structure, AND the cowl is the best we've seen on film. I know I sound extremely picky, but moving in this direction with the cowl is definitely a plus, in my opinion:

I completely agree, but you might wanna put those in spoiler tags due to their size.

I don't like that thick cowl. TDK's think neck was probably the biggest leap forward for any of the suits. Nolan should streamline it to make it look less busy and robotic, but it works. He just looks less ridiculous now that he can actually turn his body and head separately and not in sync lol.

The returns cowl/suit is the best Batman has ever looked in a live-action film. Hopefully that changes with TDKR but I'm guessing it won't.

Yup.

Hopefully Bane doesn't sport the armored/busy TDK look though.

I never ever want to see the thick neck cowl again. The whole turning the body to look at something is without a doubt the dumbest thing in the Batman movies.

That's pretty sweet--though the proportions seem a little off.

I actually would love this, Ive been thinking for a while that for Nolans Bat franchise which does not allow a robin, etc. That Bruce going Batman Inc. in the end might be really cool, a way of bringing the movies a bit more up to date with whats going down in the comics. I would love to see him do that suit which seems like the INC. suit

Yeah well Bale looked ridiculously out of proportion with his thin neck and all too rounded cowl.

Nothing has topped this cowl on screen...

Imagine the Returns cowl with a TDK-esque neck.

Somebody get to work on that...

I for one think the Begins cowl has been the best on film to date.

I would almost agree... but there were too many scences where it just didn't work, for whatever reason.

The Returns cowl not only looked the most comic-book inspired to me... it fit Keatons face so well, which can't always be said for Bale.

Not to mention Burton's more evocative lighting and intense poses. It like an all black-costumed Neal Adams drawing.

The Returns cowl is pretty good, but i want the beak (hey, comics batman has it too) and the sculpted angry look. It feels kinda flat.

I've never liked the mouth opening on the begins cowl, and I've always hated the pointed inward ears.

Still love the Begins cowl a lot. This probably wasn't intentional but this shot (sorry I keep using it guys, I just think it's a really great shot of Bats) totally reminded me of the intro of BTAS. That glare he gives.

Maybe its because Bale doesnt have a very sculpted jaw-line but the mouth shape has always bugged me, I have no idea why they chose a more rounded opening. The sharp edges of the more "traditional" cowl look much more intimidating to me.

Good point although other than angle they look nothing alike. But I get what you mean.

I was referring to that specific shot only. The costumes look nothing alike obviously but his presence is exactly the same.

That glare reminds me of Fry's glare. Someone post those next to one another posthaste!

I've always hated the BB cowl. One of the worst on screen, IMO. The nose, ears, and neck are what really kill it for me.

I'm not understanding the round mouth opening as opposed the square one.

Looks more intimidating as well as more aesthetically pleasing as others have mentioned.

There were times when the BB cowl looked decent, and there were times where it looked just plain awful...
