The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Batsuit Discussion Thread

wow I've never read that article before, very interesting piece of info I should say.
I think the most revealing thing about the article is that on top of budget not being there for the batsuit, they were afraid to move away from complete rubber because they were "already redefining the character pretty radically." Like many have said, you would think that Nolan would have wanted to separate his Batman from the rest of the bunch by going in a different direction with the batsuit.
Awww, so having the BB suit, which I think looked better, was just blind luck. Crazy how he could screw it up by having more of a budget.:csad:
I don't think it was a complete screw up. Yes, it's over designed, but the TDK suit is a step in the right direction towards moving away from complete rubber, IMO. You may like the BB suit, but I think it's one of the worst bastuits ever made on film. Of course, we both have our own opinions about it.
Why was the TDK suit so expensive? Jesus!
They made twenty-five batsuits for TDK. It wasn't that the one suit cost that much, it's how much all of the batsuits produced cost.

...on HQ overlit stills.

You never notice his legs or stomach section, the only two bad areas, in the film.

Really, they only thing I feel was let down in the film of this suit was the symbol. Nolan's batsymbol is epic for posters, bat signal, etc. but the BEGINS suit symbol was perfect also.
I noticed them :( and IMO the worst part of the suit was the cowl, which was completely visible.

Thanks Dmg for the info. That's why I love the Hype boards.... informative posters will always provide interesting facts that you probably never knew.

It like... meh, I can live with the cowl and I can live with the 5 year old towel cape...

But man, Nolan had the potential to make the sleekest and most effective bat-suit on screen... and he just didn't take it.

They probably put real carbon fiber in them, along with other expensive materials. Some materials look better on screen than others, carbon fiber on a Bat-suit does not look good.

I always liked the concept art of the Batman Forever prototype Batsuit. It's one of those Batsuits that would look great if only used for special situations. Although the Forever outfit looks pretty decent, too bad it maintained more of the rubber suit look rather than going high tech military style.

I thought it was Batman Forever. It looks more like the shiny prototype suit than the freeze outfit (both the same, just different colors). I could've sworn this was the image shown in the Batman Forever extras although I could be wrong.

No, i'm pretty sure it was Batman & Robin... the blue being the biggest indicator.

Sorry. Fixed it.

EDIT: If it is then my bad although it very much looks like the Forever suit IMO.

Oh I see it now... yeah, take my word dude. It's from Batman & Robin.

If it is my bad. But yeah I really like the concept art and feel it would look terrific as an alternative high tech/military Batsuit only used for special situations.

IMO it looks closer to this.

To clarify, this is the "sonar/prototype suit" from Batman Forever, which does look like the pic.

This is the B&R suit, which doesn't look like that photo:

In other words, Mister Meddle was right. ;)

Well... its always discussed in relation to Batman & Robin.

Not to mention shown on all the films special features/DVD releases.

Concept is not final product... and the blue was the concept for the Clooney suit.

Please, less Clooney suit pics in this thread the BETTER!

What are you talking about? That suit was used in the movie, that's just what it's called. Remember when Riddler destroys the batcave, batmobile, and all the suits, and the only one left, was called the "prototype suit", and then Kilmer goes, "well, it's a good night to test it out". It was the suit that Batman had on when he went into The Riddler's lair, and killed Two-Face. It was in the movie Batman Forever.

Thanks for quoting that pic and making me scroll through the thread and see it again. Now my eyes are BLEEDING:cmad::cmad::cmad:

It's always been presented as such on the Batman & Robin special features...

But eyes see different things!

I used to love the sonar suit (BF) when i was a kid.

Wait, I didn't know that drawing was actually associated with any movie, I thought we were talking about the actual pics, which is why I quoted it, and then posted the B&R pics. I thought that was just a random drawing, that Mister Meddle said reminded him of the Forever sonar suit?

I really hate the small round mouth opening Batman has in TDK. Give him more room!

MM, I don't mean to pounce on you, but you sure you want a suit like that?

(Nothing against the designer, Miles Teves. That guy is a very gifted artist).

The above design looks like more sculpted rubber and arbitrary detailing--- the opposite of what many of us would hope for in TDKR.

I can appreciate it's bold silhouette...and I'm very much for high-tech military references, but this is more robot-fantasy to me than military-tech.

I'm curious, what is it you favor about this design?
