The growl is fine, great even when he's saying a lot of badass lines, but when he goes on long philosophical diatribes like he did in TDK, then it gets a little silly, either he changes the voice slighty for those parts, or just don't go on and on about loss, grief and morality of an entire city.

Yes indeed. The ending of TDK with the Joker and Gordon were the most cringe-inducing. Can't believe Nolan didn't ask for another take. Or maybe those were the best takes.
