WB's virals for this film haven't been all that successful... if not simply downright disappointing.

I swear I find it funny all the moping that is going on here now. 42 E, had one part of the viral (I can't remember which) but it was clear that people were not unlocking it that it was actually based on time, but they made it seem like people were actually unlocking it. It's nothing new.

I imagine WB will release the trailer this evening. It's a good marketing move, because let's face it why would they have this thing exclusive with The Avengers? It isn't their movie. Why risk having all the fans see a bootleg of it in the coming days? And for god sakes it's the 3rd trailer not the first.

I expect it this evening. It's the smart move to make for these guys.

Right - click, view source. Search for your city.
But it doesn't matter if a location has been taken, as long as the tag is still around!
There have been two unlocks for Times Square Tower, for example.

Too much stock in the "pixel by pixel/frame by frame" virals. Like I said, those are underwhelming because they drag, and you've already made your impression when you've seen like 3/4 of it before the actual full reveal.

They are releasing the trailer. At this time its in several places.

I've always found the lacklustre virals to be the whole "reveal pixel by pixel" ones WB insist on doing. They're creative but the issue is it drags on so long we get to a point where we lose interest and by the time the image or what have you is completed it doesn't have that "bang" that it's meant to have when the full reveal comes. But that's just how I've always felt. I can see the same fate for this trailer. We could very much be sick of the imagery by the time this hits in HD... especially if it takes until freakin' next monday to accomplish.

What WB should do is release the poster once 1000 frames have been unlocked, then release a Zimmer score sample once 2000 frames have been unlocked. Then release the trailer in normal embedded quality once 3000 have been unlocked.

Also, in the next few weeks, release a special Cinemacon Sizzle Reel, so it would make sense why they are releasing frame-by-frame stills of this one, because the best it still to come.
