For the record, I'm 85% sure the "final shot" of the series is the one in the trailers with Batman standing on the bridge overlooking Gotham.

I don't think so. I think with how secretive they have been about this particular ending, it wouldn't have showed up in the trailers yet.

God, this is worse than the denial that Joker would be permawhite at some stage or that Two-Face survived.

This time it's not just about the ending of a film, but it's also the ending of the trilogy. So yeah, they'll probably keep the ending until the movie is released and not show any shots of it in the trailer.

I so hope that we've seen absolutely NOTHING from this film, when it's revealed in theaters! Imagine if all the sudden, Gotham litterally starts to crumble, and all buildings WILL start to shatter, as seen in teaser!? Only in the movie, it will look just a bit too frighteningly real!? Bane has some sort of hi-tech thingy, which purpose is still quite unknown. And We all know that Bane wants Gotham to litterally fall! He also wants Batman to witness this... God, I hope we will see things in this film that no one dared to believe.

 This.

I think so too.

The Dark Knight Rises is just the beginning. Hopefully the next films will be a continuation of what Nolan started instead of a reboot.

Every time someone comes up with a theory about the ending, I think of what Jonah or Chris said in that article. They thought of an amazing ending and stuck with it. Bamfer reports that the ending reduced grown men to tears.

There are three theories. He quits, he dies or he continues. I honestly don't think that an open ending (he continues as Batman) is something Chris and Jonah discussed all those years ago.

Are people really arguing about continuation? Won't happen. There will be a reboot, WB is already planning on it.

I'm sure that after the release of the reboot people are going to make connections to the Nolan films and claim that it's a continuation.

Agreed. His journey is coming to a close. They have known the ending for almost a decade, they have continued to talk about it being an "ending", and one said they got a lump in their throat when watching it.

Who knows exactly what is going to happen, but whatever it is, I'm excited and looking forward to seeing it!

Well, of course, considering the Nolan films are a continuation of the Schumacher films... :o

i heard the ending is like return of the jedi....bruce and gotham are celebrating with tiny people and then right before the credits hit...u see 3 hologram ghostly figures...2 of them are bruces parents and the the last one is heath ledger

I disagree with this. I want this to be a finale, I just don't think you need to do that by killing the hero/having him quit. Its boring.

And I don't know where the whole "This is a curse" thing came from. He isn't Spider-Man, this wasn't something thrust upon him. He chose to become Batman, he chose to kill Harvy Dent and I think he will choose to remain as Batman.

How active he would need to be is the question. Obviously, it appears Gotham has been peaceful and Bruce Wayne wont have needed to put on the cowl for a while at the start of this film but he needed to and appears to do it grudgingly. So, again, having him quit at the end just doesn't work because he had already quit at the start of the film!

Nolan knows you don't have characters not grow/change over the course of the story. If Bruce starts off being "retired" then he isn't going to go back to being "retired" at the end of the film because that means nothing changed!

If Bane beats Batman to the near point of death, then having Batman die at the end will seem anticlimatic. I think a "death" ending is more likely than a "retirement" ending because it COULD work, but it is still a copout.

"Hey guys, we're ending the trilogy."

"Yes, we're ending the trilogy."

"Really, we're ending the trilogy. No more."

"Yes, and the ending is gonna be critical. We've planned it since the last two films."

*Shot of Batman on the skyscraper*

Audience: Wait a minute... that's it? Couldn't you have like... showed Batman doing that in Begins? Or TDK?

Nolan: Hope you enjoyed it. This is the end of Batman's adventures, not with a period, but an ellipses :awesome:

Audience: Like the last two films?

Nolan: Four years of planning! Enjoy the new director's vision. Now to work on my Bond film.

...Yeah, I really don't see the point of this.

This is a picture of Nolan, preparing to strangle you to death.

Isn't Nolan supposed to be involved in some capacity with the next set of films? It's not really a stretch to assume they might be loosely based in the Nolanverse.

I just have a hard time seeing them retread the whole origin thing again so soon.

I don't know, I think the most important is not the last shot but the meaning, the context of that shot.
So, they can still show us the last shot but if we don't know what it means it's like they gave us nothing. For example the end of Inception or TDK.

Why exactly are those possibilities boring, and how is your ending so exciting?

i hope Nolan does a Metal Gear Solid Movie instead...sorry but bond just doesnt excite me anymore lol

Well, people not in the know can be dumb. Didn't I tell you guys about the time I had to explain to my sis that toby didn't get fired/replaced and that TASM isn't SM4?

He will more likely be in a "supervisor" kind of role like he is with MoS. He will probably also write the story for the next Batman as he has done for Superman.
