Maybe this is crazy, but the idea just sort of popped into my head tonight. What if the ending is a fast-forward to some point in the very distant future where the whole Batman story is shown to have become basically this ancient mythological tale? Like, children are taught about how there was once a Bat-Man who saved a city, etc.

Yeah, I don't necessarily favor that concept... Just kind of seemed like something that might be a little outside-of-the-box... I was thinking about how that article mentioned "Nolan’s finale takes Batman and his on-screen mythology to a place it has never been before." Also that old rumor about the ending being very CGI-heavy.
