Do you speak up when guys are blatantly straight, or just when guys are blatantly gay?
That was a weird two day phase from a few new members I think. I don't find posting about admiring Tom offensive but there have been some lines being crossed lately.
You obviously do care if you're making such a big deal about it. We see the textual panting in the Anne Hathaway thread all the time, and for a good while there, there had to be a warning message at the beginning of each thread to stop it with the boobs/ass talk. I simply can't stand double standards, and if you're going to turn a blind eye to all of the sexiness talk in the Hathaway thread, you've got no place complaining about the drooling over Tom Hardy, JGL, or any other male star. Furthermore, some of the posters on this board are women and they're just as entitled to express being attracted to men as the men are allowed to express their being attracted to Hathaway or Cotillard.バット人;22241231 said:Well I haven't noticed any vulgarity or sexual comments in the Anne Hathaway thread from straight SHH members as of late. Every thread in the past couple of months have had questionable posts, "man crush" polls, homosexual pictures, and obscene comments.
I've got nothing against homosexual males nor am I homophobic but there is no reason to constantly and obnoxiously bring up homosexuality and sexual innuendos in every topic, it's just inappropriate and off topic. Surely I'm not the only one who thinks this as I've seen others comment on this as well.
I KNOW there are impressionable kids on here, do they really need to see these posts about "loving" Tom Hardy, Levitt, or expressing bi-sexual/homosexual feelings for others? It's not necessary for a Batman film section a prestigious message board such as Superherohype. It's nearly EVERY thread in here. Some member posted some disturbing pictures and "art" the other night, is that really appropriate or am I over reacting?
I don't care what anyone's sexual orientation is. Whether you're straight, homosexual, asexual, whatever, keep it out of this section. There are places for that and constantly expressing it everywhere in here isn't right.

Not to mention that every time a straight man on here expresses that he has the hots for one of these female stars, he is making an expression of his heterosexuality, so there shouldn't be any of this talk about there being "places for that and constantly expressing it everywhere in here isn't right." Anyone who is bisexual or homosexual should have just as much of a right to express his or her feelings as the heterosexual crowd. There was also a thread about the women of TDKR at the same time there was a man crush thread, but I note that you didn't bring that up.
As far as there being "impressionable kids," I was a gay kid that liked Batman and I'm sure there are still gay kids that like Batman. And kids these days aren't like kids when I was little... they know what these words mean and they know when homosexuality is being singled out as being a bad thing, which it definitely is in your post despite your trying to carefully word everything. They don't need to be reading crap like that when they likely use Batman as a form of escapism to get away from the homophobia in their day to day life.
"Yummy and delicious" is sexually aggressive? Something tells me that when the soccer moms were protesting Batman Returns, Catwoman saying, "I feel so yummy," had nothing to do with it. I do also wonder if you would have the same feeling/reaction to the exact same comment made about a female star. Having said that, though, most of the comments of this nature that I see usually seem to be from straight guys goofing off. Yeah, there are women and gay guys who are making serious comments, but there are also folks that aren't and people are taking it way too seriously.I disagree with this entirely. I read user "i have no clue what that says in alien"s post to be spot on. There was a period on here that every thread (not just the actor/actress appreciation threads) i went in to was nothing more than a bunch of posts about how "yummy and delicious" all the male actors are in this movie. I had no idea who was male or female posting these comments, nor did i care. but i felt that the comments were kind of awkward and sexually aggressive and if i had a child - (male, female, gay, straight) who enjoyed coming to these boards to discuss batman stuff, i would be a little bit weary of their time spent here just from the sexual nature of the posts.
I wouldn't say it's so opinionated because of the fact that the internet was barely even around when I was a kid, if nothing else. The schools had email and that was it. Most people didn't have have internet on their home computers. Furthermore, I never said anything that even so much as implied that it's my job to decide "what a parent can deem appropriate or inappropriate," ...seriously, I didn't say anything about parents one way or the other... but (and maybe you don't give a damn about this) there happens to be a big problem in the gay community right now with young people committing suicide, and I happen to be pretty concerned about that, which is where I'm coming from.Your assumption that kids arent the same now as they were when you were a kid is a highly opinionated comment. Its not your job to decide what a parent of a child can deem appropriate for that child's reading material. Whether that child is gay or straight.
I didn't see the pictures, but I doubt they reached the height of what happened with Hathaway, where topless photos were posted of her last year. They were promptly removed by a mod, of course, but did the pictures you're commenting on show nudity?バット人;22242441 said:Did you see some of the posts and pictures that have been posted the last couple of days? I made it clear that this isn't some kind of double standard. This observation is shared by others as well, not just me?
When a man makes a comment about Hathway's boobs, etc., it goes without saying that he's a straight man. Though I haven't really seen any comments about "I'M A HOMOSEXUAL AND I LIKE TOM HARDY!" either. What I saw in the last topic was someone saying they'd been somewhere with their boyfriend, someone else said something about not knowing so and so was gay/bi/a woman, there were a couple of other comments of that nature, and you got offended so you thought to deal with the problem by throwing kerosene on the fire to let everyone know how outraged you were, hence why this is still being discussed.Yes, a few months ago there was that warning in the Hathaway but the "panting" you speak of has ceased. Thing with that though is, none of those members were blatantly and obnoxiously shouting, "I'm a horny heterosexual male that loves Anne Hathaway" or "I'm a homosexual female that loves Hathaway". Find me some instances in the other threads that are like this but for straight dudes and Hathaway and I'll eat crow and shut the hell up. Here, it's clearly different. What does someone's sexual orientation have to do with the topics at hand anyway? Why constantly post sexual remarks or homosexual comments that do nothing to add or contribute to the topic? To be heard? By the hundredth post everyone gets it. I've never seen anything like this, especially not with Batman. Yeah there were Ledger fanatics in 2008 but this "interest" in these actors is like at Twilight levels.
I would comment and feel the same way if someone came in constantly announcing that they were heterosexual and all they wanted to do was *insert racy comment here* Anne Hathaway. Seeing as though that hasn't happened in a while, I can't possibly comment.
