The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion & Speculation Thread - Part 43

That must be one damn fine carpet. Maybe Bane wants to keep it clean and put it in his secret lair?

I'm not joking! It is clearly a tarp. Look at the guy's foot, how the fabric under his shoe shapes. The light tint of the carpet underneath. And then furniture on top, as if the room is meant to always be like that.

I'm not a homeowner, but it seems abnormal.

I dunno. Its something that's always bugged me. End rant.

One thing ive always wondered about this scene is why there is a tarp over the carpet in the room the man is kidnapped in. All the furniture is placed over it.
I don't see a tarp, just a very thin rug over the carpet.

I wonder how in depth these "attack the rich" scenes will go. Given that Nolan is a massive Kubrick fan, I can certainly see the idea of paying homage to A Clockwork Orange being a tantalizing one. That said, the TDKR moments will obviously be appropriately scaled back. I doubt we'll see (or want to see) Bane clutching giant marble phalli, attacking Gotham socialites. Then again, based on some of the connotations of certain recent posts in this thread... :funny:

Anyhow, I figured I'd just mention the ACO connection, as that's one of the first things that stood out to me when I saw those moments in the trailer. Admittedly, Nolan's outspoken admiration for Kubrick was probably the clincher in drawing such a comparison.

They should've fixed the paint in the column. :o

I'd love to see Catwoman do some Catwoman style looting of a rich person's mansion. Cutting open priceless jewelery cases and cracking safes.

Yeah I saw people talking about acne scars on Pine's neck and I'm like, "I'm not even looking that far down!" And then my friend said she didn't like his smug smile and I'm like, "I'm not even looking that far down!" :lmao:

I noticed that about Pine also. He has acne scars on his neck or bad razor burns. :oldrazz:

I dunno. I think it's pretty clearly a tarp. It gets tugged when a foot provides friction, and in a rug, the fibers generally conform to the shape. Notice that you can see through it and make out the design of the carpet.

Also, I want everyone to know that my girlfriend is indeed judging me that this is the subjet of my debate. ;)

Absolutely. I demand a reshoot to fix this.
I just watched trailer number two again. during the football field imploding scene, if you look close, you can see the fans collectively reacting to the explosions, you can even see people running from the stands.

LOVE Kubrick and it's been far too long since I've seen ACO. Alex is an incredibly interesting charcter, and an inspiration for the Joker. But if I recall, is class inequality a theme in that film? I remember it being mostly about morality. I remember the home invasion loosely though.

What other connections (that you hinted at) will be in TDKR?

I agree 100%. The woman being dragged down the stairs by her hair really shook me up. I guess having a wife and two daughters - it just freaked me out.

When I noticed that, it upset me too.

If Selina has a part in this attack, I would imagine she'll have major regret afterwards.

A tarp is usually made out of even thinner plastic, and would be glossy in that light. IMO it's not glossy enough to be plastic.

The carpet is also light gray/off-white, and the rug is decorative. It's certainly not an Oriental rug - those are so thick you can sleep on it. Whereas the rug shown there is almost bedsheet-thin.

And rugs get tugged on and do not conform to the tuggee's shape. I should know, my cat does it all the time. :oldrazz:

And I'm glad you're acknowledging your girlfriend is judging you on this. I was gonna proclaim you the TDKR version of the guy in the Avengers board who was nearly having a coronary insisting that the line in the Avengers trailer, "I thought I didn't qualify" was uttered by Chris Evans, when it's totally mind-numbingly -ly RDJ. :lmao:

Oh yes. As someone who was there that day, people were requested to do a lot of sprinting to the exits (only to be met by mercenaries pointing guns at their faces) and general "realistic panic" (pushing people out of the way, jumping stands/seats, screaming) for the entire place all day. It should be some terrifying stuff

This is where they shot the scene of Selina hailing a cab with the luggage, the evening scene with her wearing the masked ball gown, the scene where Blake dropped off Bruce and the scene where he drove his Lambo (wearing his suit from the masked ball) so I suppose Selina lives in the building above the jewelry store.

Yeah the general audience has NO idea how intense and crazy that scene will be in full. Did some [BLACKOUT]of the crowd members get shot?[/BLACKOUT]

I don't believe they did on the first day, but the second day
basically consisted of the mercenaries going up and down the aisles injuring people and executing fans

wow thanks for the first hand account Yurka!!!

No problem!

Haha I'm a pretty laid back guy. But I was a debater in high school. I don't like being wrong, so I have a tendency to drag out arguments longer than they ought to.

Also, its still a tarp. ;) I kid, but this scene is horrifying. I cant wait to see its context. But I am worried that the class warfare theme doesn't belong in a Bat film...

Incredible. Man there is certainly some chilling and unsettling **** going down in this film. I love it.
