The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

Letterman has became kind of twisted.

He went on to say he'd be hurt and offended if they just fired him without someone to replace him that was qualified.

That he was willing to stay on is understandable. He hasn't done anything since he started this job so after all these years it would be hard to change.

I'm not ready to declare this another Conan incident just yet though.

I'm going to trademark Team Jimjim just in case.

How are ratings for Fallons takeover?

Fallon is the right guy for this gig. Having just been to a live taping of his Late Show, I have even more confidence in him. All around, he has more talent in his left pinky toe than Leno ever did.

Jimmy is energetic, for one. He sings. He plays guitar. He does incredible impersonations. His show is skit-based sometimes, like a cross between a talk show and SNL. He has great chemstiry with his sidekick, Higgins. Not only are The Roots the best band in late night, but they're also very funny and have been featured prominently in skits and various bits. Plus, due to Jimmy's work on SNL and in films, he's got a great relationship with many other actors and celebrities.

Jimmy is like a younger version of Conan but with broader appeal and less of a self-deprecating edge. In terms of the evolution of the Tonight Show, Jimmy taking over just makes sense. I think his show will be the closest thing to Carson's Tonight Show that we could be getting.

The fact that the Tonight Show is moving to New York makes it a lot harder for Leno to screw Fallon out of the Tonight Show.

Plus Lorne Michaels has control now and he's not one to be ****ed with, and to boot he's been in the television game much longer than Leno has.

Not really. They can just as easily move it back to Los Angeles and let him retake it. Conan had an entire revamp of the Tonight Show stage and it wasn't enough to stop NBC from taking it down and giving it back to Leno. Moving the studio to New York is not even window dressing.

All they'll have to change are two things:
"Live from Los Angeles, it's the Tonight Show with Jay Leno"
"Live from New York, it's the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon"

That's it really. Fallon already has his show in New York.

Look, either let Jay Leno go or keep him on the Tonight Show otherwise they'll repeat 2009 by giving him his own show.

It wasn't my decision.
Good to see Jay has finally been vindicated.

That's the real reason Jimmy will get a fairer shake than Conan did. Michaels is one of the biggest sharks in the TV business, if Jay's people try anything he will blow them to hell and back.

I couldn't have said this any better. To be honest, as much as I love Conan, I love Fallon even better. He has improved so much after his first year. His show is just that damn good and the fact that he caters to such a large (and younger) demographic, I see nothing but upside to the switch.

Yep, this is true as well. Lorne Michaels is a television juggernaut. This will not be another Conan fiasco with him in Fallon's corner. With that said, this is just more salt in the wound for Conan. He got screwed over and Leno's departure was only delayed by 3 1/2 years.

And TV will finally be rid of Jay Leno. And it will be good.

Love Fallon's show. Hes such a nerd and I love the thank you notes and when he plays games with his guests. The water war and Hard boiled egg roulette with Tom Cruise are hilarious

Say what you will about Jay, but he entertained me and many others and deserved to resign from the show on his own terms after all these years and yet wasn't allowed to...again. Fu** NBC!

Very emotional speech by Leno on his last last night

http://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/tv/so-long-farewell-jay-leno-n24041

“The first year of the show, I lost my mom,” he said. “The second year, I lost my dad and then my brother died.

"After that, I was pretty much out of family, and the folks here became my family," Leno said, trying to fight back his tears. "Consequently, when they went through hard times, I tried to be here for them. People say, 'Why don't you go to ABC or Fox?' But I didn't know anybody over there. These are the people I know."

Did you not see his heartfelt goodbye last night? Even he admitted that it really was his time to go and hand it off to the next guy, as Carson handed it off to him. Maybe it wasn't totally Leno's decision to leave now, but he still went willingly and gracefully. He's gotta be happy that he's going out on top of the game rather than clinging on for another decade like a dinosaur losing touch with reality.

The landscape of pop culture is changing, and The Tonight Show is an institution that should evolve with it. At a certain point, it gets a little ridiculous to have a man in his mid-sixties reading tweets from Miley Cyrus on television.

I haven't been a big Leno fan over the year. I've found him to be a bit overrated and probably the least funny late night host overall. However, I respect him for his work ethic and all he's done for comedy and The Tonight Show. His goodbye speech honestly made me year up. You can tell he's really loved his job all tees years.

Bring on Jimmy!

I'll have to watch that. I don't remember what he said before, when Conan took over. This time though he doesn't have his own show to fall back on which I think is why he's more emotional about it.

He was being professional. Of course, haters love to ignore the fact that Leno was that way during and after CocoGate by refusing to trash talk or take cheap shots in public unlike the other jealous late night hosts.

And that's why I'm upset. Being laid off from a job you loved to do for so long is just unfair and him crying that way was all the proof you need that he truly didn't want to go. That's NBC's gratitude for you.

If by jealous you mean hosts (and the majority of people) that know Leno is a scumbag.

Makes me wonder what would have happened if Conan accepted NBC's offer to take the Tonight Show to midnight four years ago.
