The Walking Dead The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 16 "A" Discussion Thread

I doubt it was them. I agree with someone else who suggested earlier that Father Gabriel's probably the one who abducted her. My guess is he thought she was out alone, needed help, but forced her into the car out of fear of being grabbed by Walkers. In all likelihood, after things calmed down and she explained the situation, they may've even gone back to look for Daryl. Who knows, but my guess is she's safe at the moment.

Worst case scenario for Beth: we find her in Terminus missing a limb or two because the cannibals got to her first.

As for Tyreese and Carol, they're probably going to be the ones who help get the others out of Terminus.

But I definitely don't think everyone's getting out of there alive. There's just no way. Someone's going to bite it in the first few episodes of season 5.

Yeah, people's aim on the show varies wildly and hilariously but that was so bad it seemed like it was on purpose. Like they weren't actually trying to kill them and instead were herding them to the "A" train car.

They actually addressed this in the episode. I believe Daryl says "It doesn't seem like they're trying to kill us," and Rick says at one point "they're just shooting at our feet."

Probably not. Which is unfortunate. My biggest gripe with this show is how it handles deaths with kid gloves. Kid gloves compared to the comic that is.

Yeah, they were definitely shooting in such a way to force them to run certain ways. I never really look for letters on buildings etc...in fact I played with my cats during the entire show so I would have missed little details like that anyway...but apparently there is even a voice yelling "get them out of B." Therefore, the Terminus gunners would lay down bullets where they don't want them to go, and eventually funnel them into the open, surrounded by gunners. Kinda like how Rick was teaching Carl to funnel animals down a path and into a trap.

To me, it seemed like some kind of obstacle course for new Arrivals. Judging from all those bullet holes and no blood. All the missed gun fire looked like they were trying to "herd" them to a specific way.

So "A" could stand for Arrivals and because they can run, it means they are relatively healthy meaning not recently bit or sick from the flu. Therefor, Grade A Meat.

The people in teh shipping containers could be old and or sick people.
Great theory. I'm leaning on to this.

Nice catch. I'm willing to bet the trap scene was laid in place so viewers would make the very same connection at the end. The entire Terminus was set up in exactly the same way. Funnel them down an open path (railroad tracks) and get them to step into the "noose."

No doubt about it, they were corralled. I gotta rewatch it. Didn't know all the side screams.

Love the funnel trap connection.

Thats 'Murica for ya. We get all riled up over 1 second nip slips/middle finger during the suberbowl and certain words that are in the dictionary. But biting a man's neck off? Shooting a little girl in the back of the head? Go nuts.

btw, isnt it the opposite in the UK? Where nips and swearing is ok on tv but violence isnt?

Yep. People are generally cool with sex, drugs and foul language over here but loose their minds over violence.

Is it confirmed that Grill lady in Terminus is wearing Beth's sweater? Or is that just a rumor, are their any shots of what Beth was wearing before she was taken around here? Cause I've heard people saying it like it was a fact, and wasn't sure.

Looks like the other take they did of the last line leaked online!

The Walking Dead Sets Finale Record with 15.7 Million Viewers

Last night’s season four finale of “The Walking Dead” set a new finale record, delivering 15.7 million viewers and 10.2 million adults 18-49. The dramatic episode anchored a record-breaking night on AMC, with the live “Talking Dead” aftershow delivering a series record 7.3 million viewers and 4.7 million adults 18-49. To cap the night, the third season finale of AMC’s “Comic Book Men” at midnight was watched by 1.1 million viewers and 715,000 adults 18-49.

Season four set a new viewership record for “The Walking Dead,” averaging 13.3 million live/same day viewers per episode and 8.6 million adults 18-49, an increase of +24%/+22% over the season three average.

“The linear television business is Dead and well,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “Thanks to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the other terrific executive producers and the entire cast, crew and network for working together to bring the fans (myself included) another unforgettable season of ‘The Walking Dead.’ To see this show serve as the centerpiece of a truly historic night on AMC is truly gratifying. So many played a role in this success, across all three shows, in giving the fans a reason to continue to return in ever-greater numbers. And so we say, until next fall, ‘Welcome to Terminus.’”

Following the 9 pm premiere of “The Walking Dead,” AMC presented “Talking Dead,” at 10 pm. Hosted by Chris Hardwick, the most-watched “Talking Dead” episode in series history featured Executive Producer and showrunner Scott Gimple and, for the first time on the show, Andrew Lincoln.

I need some of those 15.7 million to get their **** together and watch Hannibal. :o

Is this it? I just had a look at a picture of Mary and they aren't wearing the same things.

Also, there was quite a bit of stuff in the previews I don't remember seeing in the show, like Michonne taking a picture off the wall. Did they include scenes from the season 5 premiere?

The Walking Dead does this sort of thing like juxtaposing the animal funnel trap with what the characters do often. For instance, Carl shared his candy bar with Michonne out of friendship...and in the same episode, one of the Claimers was willing to kill Daryl for the rabbit (and Daryl wasn't giving it up) and someone else had to step in and cut the rabbit in half to force them to share. Another big example is the episode where Bob had to let go of his alcohol to live, Tyrese was so torn up with grief that he wouldn't let go of a walker that was trying to kill him, Carol wanted to wait for the survivor they found to show back up but Rick said it was too dangerous to wait around, Rick later told Carol that she couldn't come back to the prison (so everyone was holding onto something that was "bad" for them, and they had to let go of it to keep going). Beth and Daryl went to the rich people's country club, then went to the rundown moonshine house as a reflection of the sheltered life that Beth led and the tough upbringing he led (and how she cant be sheltered anymore and he must move beyond his past). These episodes will often have a theme that gets repeated a few times to various characters to show a look inside their minds.

"The more people became a part of us, we get stronger."
As if it was not already positive the place was a trap, the guy tells them straight up, we're cannibals and Rick and company still aren't wary enough.

Wow!!!! Really??? They ended the season like that??? The mid season finale was way better than the season finale. I mean it was a decent episode but definitely not a strong finale. Also Carol and Tyresse didn't make it to terminus.
They might have. Afterall, there was meat on the grill. :wow:

Was anyone else surprised that nobody died? I guess that whole "A character who is still alive in the comic is going to die in the finale" rumor was bogus.

Well, nobody important died at least. The way Rick took out Joe was brutal.
That was my surprise too. After thinking someone is going to die and trying to guess who (so many possibilities), no one died. Not that I'm complaining. I'm not rooting for people's deaths. I like most of the cast and those who before I wouldn't mind or even wanted to see die (Carol) have really turned around into characters who contribute something and would be a shame to lose now just as they're getting interesting.

I was wondering if maybe the other group had the same reaction after recognizing something. Some have said that Mary was wearing Beth's shirt and there were theories that Beth's kidnapping was related to Terminus. Maybe Maggie recognized it and that led to a similar standoff earlier on.
Possibly. Maybe Beth is the character who died, but off screen and without any indication she's now the one cooking on the grill.

i thought it was great. Something tells me Terminus is more than just hunters/cannibals, something very bad/sad happened to them. That room with the names of people they've lost, a huge betrayal? Just a very elaborate way to go about capturing Rick, I mean they had them put down their weapons only to rearm them, leading to one of there own getting killed?

can't wait til October:woot:
It's quite literally a funnel they used. As they were herding the group through they would go and shoot them in the direction they wanted. It's obvious in some areas they repeatedly have herded people into zones for killing. The crates and walls of one area imparticular showed a large number of bullet holes from previous groups being corraled.

btw, isnt it the opposite in the UK? Where nips and swearing is ok on tv but violence isnt?
From what I've seen that's fairly accurate.

Nice catch. I'm willing to bet the trap scene was laid in place so viewers would make the very same connection at the end. The entire Terminus was set up in exactly the same way. Funnel them down an open path (railroad tracks) and get them to step into the "noose."
Spot on what I was thinking. Instead of rabbits or chipmunks they are herding Soylent Green.

I enjoyed it, of course they have to leave us on a massive cliff hanger.

I was surprised that I saw so many people confused about the sniper "missing" the group while they were running all over terminus.

Can't wait to see how they will get out of this one.

15.7 Million.... I wouldn't be surprised if it got up to 16-17M for the fall premiere this coming October

Well that conversation between Daryl and Rick the next morning after he "claimed" the Claimers. Daryl confirmed he didn't know the Claimers were tracking Rick, which I figured. Some thought Daryl knew they were hunting Rick when he might've noticed a candy wrapper lying on the tracks b/c that's possibly Michonne's and Carl's favorite candy bar. Glad that wasn't the case.

I wonder if Daryl will tell Maggie about what happened to Beth now that they got time (might not be much) to catch up?

I also wonder how Maggie, Glenn, Abraham, etc. got captured? Did they stumble on something they weren't supposed to at Terminus? Was the food drugged or what?

Beth and Daryl went to the rich people's country club, then went to the rundown moonshine house as a reflection of the sheltered life that Beth led and the tough upbringing he led (and how she cant be sheltered anymore and he must move beyond his past). These episodes will often have a theme that gets repeated a few times to various characters to show a look inside their minds.

I think that's pretty much this season's theme "moving beyond your past and changing who you are or were". Most of the characters go through that this season. I know this is a theme that gets explored every season, but I notice it being brought up in pretty much every ep this season.
