BEST STORYLINE - THE DARK ALLIANCE
Not wanting to blow my own trumpet here. And really, I'm not, as though I played a role in starting the storyline that spanned through this season, it quickly became much bigger than me. Everyone, hero and villain alike, brought their A-game, firing on all cylinders. And the result was gripping, compelling storytelling that would surely make the real writers at DC Comics proud. I've sometimes been guilty in my RPG history of not keeping up with the wider storyline at play. But this season, I've been hooked, reading damn near every post. Excellent work, everyone. I think you've all set the standard very high, it's gonna be tough for next season to top it. But I'm sure we'll try!

BEST HERO - SUPERMAN (Andy C.)
When nominating Superman for Best Hero earlier this season, I commented on how Andy had put him through the wringer, and really brought the Man of Steel down low. Well, as the season reached its conclusion, Andy continued to deliver the goods by building Superman back up. And isn't that what being a hero is all about? Triumphing over adversity, overcoming the odds? Of particular note is Andy's closing post. The way you set up Superman's capacity for caring really granted us a glimpse into Clark's mindset, and showed us just what makes Superman so super. Great work this season!

BEST VILLAIN - BRAINIAC (Johnny Blaze)
Johnny Blaze kept a low profile for much of the early-going this season. But the reveal of Brainiac as the true "Big Bad" of the Dark Alliance was a powerful moment. And it was in the climactic Battle of Gotham that JB truly got to flex his writing muscles and portray Brainiac (inhabiting Doomsday's body) as a frightening, formidable force. When he effortlessly tore Hank Henshaw (as played by Watchman, a great villain portrayal in its own right) to shreds, you really got the feeling of, "Oh crap, how are the good guys going to get out of THIS?" A feeling which was only made stronger as the fight continued, and one by one the heroes tried and failed to combat Brainiac/Doomsday. And when a writer is so utterly convincing in their portrayal of a villain, that you actually forget narrative convention and start seriously thinking the bad guys might win, you know they're doing their job very well.

BEST DEVELOPED CHARACTER - CRISPUS ALLEN (Harlekin)
Cast your mind back to the early stages of the season for this one. Back when the Dark Alliance storyline was still known merely as "Project: Icarus", and was in the process of a slow build, the arc that kept me gripped in this RPG belonged to a character with no superpowers, no costume, no flashy alias. Just a normal city cop named Crispus Allen, a murder police trying to do his job. Harlekin did such a phenomenal job with Allen, investing him with a world-weary gravitas and jaded humanity that made him an utterly believable protagonist. And it's commendable that, even when Crispus was killed, entered the afterlife, and ultimately became The Spectre, Harl never lost sight of his grounded, relatable approach to characterisation, keeping us emotionally invested right up to the end of his journey.

BEST NEWCOMER - SENSEIOFCHEESE (Nero, Zachary Zatanna)
I know what you're thinking: Sensei's been here all season! But remember, the season-end awards cover activity for the WHOLE season. But here's the funny thing. When talking about possible candidates for nomination, we actually had to go back and make sure Sensei debuted this season. He has had such a great impact on the game, and integrated himself into the story and our little gang so flawlessly, it feels like he's been here forever. It almost seems insulting calling him "Best Newcomer", as his pitch-perfect characterisation and dramatic flair have already put him up there among the elite of ALL the RPG players. But the fact remains that few newcomers this season (hell, few newcomers of ANY season) have had an immediate impact quite like SenseiofCheese. The only other example of a newbie instantly establishing themselves so dramatically I can think of, is a certain Byrdy bastard. Here's hoping that experience makes you even better, Sensei!

BEST FIGHT - DEATHSTROKE VS THE ARROW FAMILY (Byrd Man, Green Lantern, twylight, Shlee)
I'm sure that plenty of Best Fight awards will be going to the Battle of Gotham. And deservedly so! But for me, the greatest fight of the season still stands as this epic, emotionally-devastating encounter. I don't think I can say anymore about this fantastic battle than I already said at the last awards, so I'll just repeat myself. It was pretty much the perfect fight. It started off with a bang, right away. Byrd floored me with a KILLER of a post, his quiet character-development moment with Green Arrow interrupted by a violent attack from Deathstroke, that left Ollie's fate hanging in the balance. And things just kept on escalating, with Deathstroke becoming increasingly violent and ruthless as the fight progressed. The moment where Deathstroke took out Lian's eye was truly horrifying, and one of the most sickening actions in the entire season. That, of course, kicked things up into an even more intense level, if that's possible, as the battle shifted its focus to Deathstroke VS Arsenel. And this, of course, came to a thrilling, unforgettable climax. My jaw dropped to the floor when I read the post, where Roy killed Deathstroke. I was so stunned, I had to read it again when I was done. To me, this moment just encapsulated the whole hero/villain dynamic of this season's central storyline, as if everything that had happened prior was building up to this moment. Major congratulations are in order for Green Lantern for bringing this harrowing moment to life so vividly. And big time kudos to Byrd for being so utterly despicable as Deathstroke, that you didn't know whether to be horrified or cheer when he finally got his comeuppance. Shlee and twylight made strong contributions too, and everything just tied together beautifully. Dramatic, powerful storytelling at its best

BEST POST - REQUIEM (MaskedManJRK & co)
A post so awesome, it had to be split into 8 posts. MaskedManJRK has been our Batman since way back in the first season. And so it is absolutely fitting that he should oversee Bruce's emotional farewell. Not that he did so alone. The eulogies submitted by a variety of players were of a uniformly excellent standard, and really helped put this loss into perspective. But it was JRK who was the glue holding it all together, taking us from one scene to the other and showing us how this grim present ties both into the past and the future. And let's not forget THAT ending, which hinted that this Requiem might not so much be "farewell" as "farewell...for now". Wonderful work.

*sits in audience and tears up*

So true!

Sweet. Appreciate the nod, Soze. Means a lot coming from a debase, psychotic ******* like you. :yay:

Muchos gracias to you all. Believe me, I deeply appreciate it.

Best Hero Superman - Andy C. This season, Andy C. showed me, beyond what most other professional comic book writers manage, why Superman is the greatest hero of all time. Through staggering adversity and sadness, Clark keeps fighting. He never gives up, and never EVER stays down. There were many sad, beautiful and epic moments from Andy C. this season, my favorite of which was Superman's reunion with Lois. Amazing stuff, man.

Best Villian As unpredictable is the character is, you always know you're in for something good when you see a new Joker post from Keyser. The Joker is not a character that can be made to evolve easily. But with Batman's death, Keyser has really delved into the true nature of this agent of chaos, and his relationship with the Bat. His season ender was a stunning piece of work, and that alone earns him this award.

Best Developed Character Cats' Tim Drake is going someplace good. His inner conflict has been a joy to read, and Cats captures the subtle duality of this guy very nicely. With Batman's death, it'll be very interesting to see where Tim goes, psychologically. Tim's been through some weird stuff in the past, but Cats has done a great job of establishing him as Robin as well as Tim Drake. I happen to know some of what Cats has planned for Robin in the next season, and belive me; it's going to be awesome.

Best Fight Batman vs Joker for the last time. This fight, more than any other this season, had me on the edge of my seat. The two nemeses dealing brutal beatings to one another aboard a Sun Eater as it rockets towards the sun, it's purpose to snuff out life on Earth, felt so important and epic. Almost too epic, I began to think, for the rivalry between these two men. But, lo and behold, I had my ass handed to me, emotionally, as the Sun Eater crashed in Crime Alley of all places. The perfect spot to end the perfect rivalry, this was one for the books.

Best Storyline Dark Alliance. Is there any other way to go? Seriously, it was out of this world. Beginning as a cross-board viral marketing campaign, the likes of which I have never seen, that completely blew my mind, and culminating in a battle against a Brainiac-controlled Doomsday, this is the kind of stuff the word 'epic' was created for.

Best Team/Duo Not to toot my own horn, but I truly believe that the best team this season was the Teen Titans. Not because of what any one of us brought to the table individually, but what we brought to the table as a group of posters dedicated to our characters. The interaction was so effortless, a testament to both the writers I'm working with on this team as well as the chemistry between them. Syn, Cats, EB, it's been a real pleasure, and I can't wait for next season.

Best Post There aren't many posts that I've read more than once, much less more than twice. But http://forums.superherohype.com/showpost.php?p=15555872&postcount=2428 <<that one is. Once again, the characterization is flawless.

Best Newcomer He's taken a character and truly developed him. His season ender promises more of the same, and I am truly looking forward to it. A writer that has evolved and become one of the really good ones, this award goes to Blacklight's Booster Gold.

MVP As if there's even a contest, this goes to the architects of the Dark Alliance arc.

Thanks for the award nominations, Sensei! It is greatly appreciated. :)

BEST HERO - SUPERMAN (Andy C.)
For all the reasons discussed above and more, this award undoubtedly goes to Andy. If you guys want to hear a secret, it's this: I'm a sucker for Superman and Spider-Man. Portray either properly, and you're basically a shoe-in for a Best Hero award from me. Predictable? Perhaps. But well-earned, nonetheless. If I were to give you a list of all the things that make Superman great and a list of all the things Andy is doing right, they would look identical. Someone needs to set the heroic example, and why shouldn't it be Big Blue?

BEST VILLAIN - THE JOKER (Keyser Soze)
Three words: He did it. By God, after what seemed like an eternity of trying, The Joker finally did it. He killed Batman. Few hero/villain relationships are as complex, as everlasting, and as epic as the one between Batman and The Joker. Thus, the flawless execution of said relationship is a testament to both Soze's and JRK's skill. Make no mistake, however - as much as you love Batman, Soze makes you hate The Joker more. In one Season, he tried to destroy the sun, did the naked chicken dance, urinated on a poor man's shoes, discussed the sound of a baby's skull smashing against a wall, and killed Batman.

BEST DEVELOPED CHARACTER - TIMOTHY DRAKE (Catman_prb)
Conflicted is an understatement. Early on, Tim found himself thrust into a total leadership position within the Titans through Kara's death. Responsibility and guilt weighing heavily on his shoulders, Tim faced many trials - both internal and external. Chief among these were his feelings about Batman and Rose Wilson. Pushed right to the edge, Tim literally began to talk to himself (in his head), providing readers with a unique insight into the deepest, darkest thoughts of the most current Boy Wonder. Resentment towards Batman, unwitting attraction to Rose, and feelings of emptiness were just among the many things Tim experienced. And we were there with him the whole way.

BEST FIGHT - BATMAN VS. THE JOKER: THE END (MaskedManJRK, Keyser Soze)
There was no fanfare. No last hoorah. The world was not watching. The stage was neither fancy nor flattering. And yet, by the nature of its simplicity, it became something epic. Its anticlimactic tone made it the most climactic confrontation of the Season. Batman did not die a 'heroic' death by comic book standards. It wasn't glorious. He died in the middle of Crime Alley, a knife piercing his heart. Having already stopped the Apokoliptian Sun-Killer, no monumental fate hung in the balance. It was just a brawl between two weak, injured souls - each desperately trying to stop the other. And, in the end, The Joker won. If it ever had to end, this was how it had to go down.

BEST STORYLINE - PROJECT: ICARUS
As entertaining, unpredictable, and earth-shattering as the Dark Alliance II arc was, I found the lead-up to just as - if not more - enjoyable. The mysterious beginnings of Icarus were nothing short of chaotic and had all of us outsiders scratching our heads. Riddles, clues, and hushed whispers all built up the tension growing inside us all as we desperately asked, "What is Project: Icarus?" It turned into a mini-viral campaign - similar to the likes of The Dark Knight - that had most of us on the edge of our seats.

BEST TEAM/DUO - THE JOKER AND LEX LUTHOR (Keyser Soze, Harlekin)
A murdering psychopath and a self-righteous billionaire. Were it not so twisted, it would have made for a great sitcom. The burning hatred between these two men was so transparent that you were just waiting for the other shoe to drop. And somehow, in the middle of the loathing, these two writers managed to create a philosophical discussion about their obsession with their respective foes. These are two characters who will never see eye-to-eye, yet they had to accept working together - and those are the kinds of arcs that are so fun to read.

BEST POST - THE JOKER'S SEASON OPENER (Keyser Soze)
I know, I know. I keep nominating Soze. But you can't tell me that - if you had to choose - you would say that it was anyone else's Season. Byrd's destructive run as Deathstroke puts him at a close second, but The Joker clearly stole the show. And this was apparent from the very first post. I nominated it for Best Post of the Year in 2007, and I continue to nominate it for Best Post of the Season here.

BEST NEWCOMER - SENSEIOFCHEESE
What can I say that others haven't? Sensei is the man, plain and simple. He popped up in this RPG around the same time I did - back during a hardcore Titans revival. At the time, we were looking at a stacked PC team. So much so, in fact, that we had to turn people away - like Sensei as Zach and Blacklight as Beast Boy. I didn't regret that at the time. After all, I had earned a spot, and I didn't even know who Zach was. Had I known what Sensei would do with the teenage magician, I would have fought to get him on the team from the start. Above all else, Zach is just a person - which is why he appeals to all walks of life across the RPG.

MVP - BYRD MAN
This is Byrd's RPG. And he won't let you forget it. But, for my money, I wouldn't trust it in anyone else's hands. To those who don't know him, Byrd may seem pushy or bossy. But what I know is that he's responsible, reliable, and he cares more for this RPG than I think any of the rest of us can say. He keeps us honest and on-the-ball, and that's what a GM needs to be.

Best Hero: Andy C.'s Superman. I think it's pretty obvious why, he knows the character and plays him in the way Superman should be.

Best Villian Keyser's Joker. I mean, he did it. He killed the Batman.

Best Developed Character Zachary Zatara, Sensei of Cheese. In the comics, Zatara barely blinked on my radar. In the RPG here, Sensei made me care and enjoy the character. Nice work.

Best Fight GA Family vs. Deathstroke. Great fight, crazy resolve. Was awesome.

Best Storyline Obviously DA. Nuff said.

Best Team/Duo JRK's Batman with Keyser's Joker. Unlikely combo, yes. But I really felt they worked very well with eachother, and I loved their arc.

Best Post Because I would have to post multiple links to it, I'll just say it. JRK's Batman requiem. :cwink:

Best Newcomer Blacklight Booster Gold. He made him into an enjoyable character, and an interesting one as well.

MVP Byrd.

Since I'm too lazy, I'm doing these in parts.

BEST HERO - WIEGEABO (JAY GARRICK)
There's something wiegeabo does with his characters that makes whatever weight they have on them seem surmountable and Jay Garrick is a perfect example of that. The eldest speedster has had a lot to endure this season but you never question the Flash's spirit, his drive. When it almost looked like Jay was going to die I was damn near reeling, really afraid he would bite it, but wiegeabo made sure to show us why Jay'll never leave us: He's the hero other heroes look up to and I hope wiegeabo will be able to show more of that in the coming seasons.

BEST VILLAIN - THE JOKER (KEYSER SOZE)
I honestly can't remember when I haven't voted for Keyser Soze when it comes to this ballot and if his work this season is any indication, I doubt that'll change any time soon. Without a doubt, this was the Joker's season, as he was at the forefront of the Dark Alliance and went on to kill the Bat. You can be damn sure there's some real fine storytelling come up. An honorary mention naturally goes out to my homey Johnny Blaze, without whom it would all not have been possible.

BEST DEVELOPED CHARACTER - ZACHARY ZATARA (SENSEIOFCHEESE)
I don't think I've seen anyone develop a hero quite like SenseiofCheese did this season. He was, in my opinion, the most identifiable character this season. We laughed when he laughed (which he did, a lot). We hurt when he hurt (which he did, a lot). We cried when he cried (well, okay, he didn't do that too much thankfully), although I imagine he might do that off-screen after being cockblocked by Robin.

Eddie Brock, Syn, Harlekin, thank you so much for all those nominations. I'm so glad you're enjoying what I've been writing, and hope to live up to your praise with my work next season. :woot:

Oh, and looking back, I realise I forgot to do my MVP Award! My MVP is, without a doubt, Byrd Man. He's the man who makes the magic happen. His leadership gives us direction and momentum when it's needed, and he leads by example with his high-quality posts. Byrd, thank you... and the horse you rode in on.

Wow, thanks for all the noms guys.

Best Hero: Superman. Andy's work with Supes was stunning, and I love the way he dealt with Brainiac.

Best Villian: Byrd's Deathstroke. Being on the recieving end of the pure bad-assery that he handed out to the Titans was something special.

Best Developed Character: This was a toss-up between Sensei's Zatara and EB's Superboy. In the end I have to go with the flow and say Sensei, purely because of how Zach was at the beginning of the season compared to the end.

Best Fight: The fight in Gotham was fantastic and all, but I have to give this one to the Hall of Justice fight. I don't have any particular reason to put one over the other, but I feel it should get a mention.

Best Storyline: Dark Alliance - there's no other way to go with this one, but that doesn't take away from the awesomeness that was. It even got so far as A-Man suggesting that the mods call the cops after Keyser's Icarus PM.

Best Team/Duo: The Joker and Luthor - Lex's reaction to the purple tanks was classic.

Best Post: The Death of Batman - pure class.

Best Newcomer: It really doesn't feel right giving it to Sensei...but then again he is the best.

MVP: Keyser Soze.

Oh, wow. Thanks Harl. I...really wasn't expecting that. Means a lot. :D

I'll get some nominations up tonight.

Except when I call them a few months later and tell them to get tested for HIV.

I'm not sure when I'll have my awards up...but I'll get around to starting them tonight.

Finished them way faster than I predicted.

Best Hero
I believe we were all afraid about someone picking up Nightwing after Master Bruce finally dropped him no matter who it was. But byrd has really done some good stuff with him. He portrayed Dick as a NYPD Cop, and threw some awesome teamwork posting with Harlekin's amazing Crispus Allen, and then we saw Dick finally come to his calling once again to save Tim's life when he picked up the costume again to square off against Jason and Deathstroke. I mean, there was not one moment that I can think of where I thought "Eh...that doesn't sound like Dick" or "Well...Dick wouldn't say/do it like that"; not once. byrd only continued to prove his portrayal of Nightwing when the Dark Alliance arc blossommed and became known to the heroes. And with Bruce's death? It only got better. You do an awesome job being [a] Dick, byrd. :oldrazz:

Best Villian
I was simply taken by surprise when Harl started posting as Lex Luthor. I mean...yea, Harl is awesome but I never pictured him playing Lex. I didn't realize until his first few posts that here was a guy who was clearly urging to get the character. Makes me wonder just how long Harl has been waiting to pick up the baldy to be honest. When I read Harl's posts the voice of what Lex Luthor sounds like to me popped into my head. I've said it before whether via an instant messenger or here on the boards with several other peoples' portrayals like Andy's Superman and LT's Darkseid...Harl you nailed it.

Best Developed Character
Yea...I voiced my distaste for the death of Deathstroke amongst other small things in the Dark Alliance arc...but it doesn't change the fact that I can infact see the bigger picture. Really, this character's development goes back to the first coming of the Dark Alliance in Season II. He was one of the few characters who really made the reader understand just how bad the first Dark Alliance was; and one of the few who still had scars from the first group. So while it may come as a shock to some because of how I voiced my opinion a while back...but this award goes to Green Lantern's Arsenal.

Best Fight
Who said a fight has to involve fists and kicks and God knows what else? Well...I suppose stuff could've been thrown in this fight...but what I'm talking about is more of a verbal fight that to me was a clear and crisp translation from these two character's relationship in the comics. Even though it always seem bound to end in the two grasping each other in their arms--and in the bedroom--one cannot say enough as to how well done byrd and twy's Green Arrow/Black Canary argument was.

To get a better idea of just what I'm talking about since it was way early on in the Season? Here is a link to one of my favorite parts of the fight.

Best Storyline
I'm sorry...because I know everyone is putting the Dark Alliance 2 but I cannot. And it isn't because of whatever reasons you may think since I have not been afraid to voice my opinions on several parts with some of you. I put this nomination in I think earlier in this Season...perhaps in the first set of Awards. I have just not seen anything like Harl's Crispus Allen story about the kids playing that game and the one kid who died with the Superman cape. Sorry, not sure how else to phrase that as to the "title of the arc". It was so original, and so new...reminds us just how awesome the non-powered character's storytelling can be.

Best Team/Duo
I know that the Teen Titans have really made their mark this Season? But I've gotta hand this over to the older Titans + Kyle Rayner. Witnessing GL (as Roy and Kyle) , byrd (as Dickg), and MB (as Wally) interact with their characters and NPC Garth and Donna was extremely enjoyable for me. The chemistry between the characters was so clear and obvious...I wanna see you guys get together again with those characters as The Outsiders as byrd hinted they might become...then again Kyle and Wally are technically JLAers.

Best Newcomer
I cannot stray from the apparent norm...I was the first one to give him this nomination in the beginning of the Season and he humped my leg for it until the next morning. But I've yet to see any other dubbed "newbie" make an introduction quite like Sensei has in the start of his Superherohype! RPG career. I don't have to say much else. While I secretly have been helping his seals escape his backyard...I love the guy.

...in a complete non-gay way. Sorry Sensei, I've found someone else. For fear of what you will do to her, I cannot tell you her name. :csad:

MVP
When you see Andy C.'s name appear as the latest reply in the IC thread? You know what you are about to read is gold. He was a "nobody" in a sense since he was really only spread his wings in UDC...and when he entered one of the Big Three RPGs he proved why he was the one chosen to portray Big Blue. Several people know this...I'm not too fond of the Boyscout. I will not go into detail because some of you will get annoyed for hearing the details for the 43947967976th time? Throw me a Superman comic, and I'll throw you back the finger. But you make Supes likeable for me Andy.

I knew slapping around Ollie would get me somewhere some day!

Thank you trusty! *is honored*
