The Wrestling Thread Has More Hype Than WrestleMania XXIX - Part 91

I’ve never been this convinced that Cena might turn heel. There’s a chain of events leading back to 2011 that have built to this point with that character where it would be entirely natural for him to turn. That’s never been true before. Has Cena ever come across so arrogant and desperate? I just don’t know if the WWE can pull the trigger when it comes time.

If only. What's most likely to happen is Cena beats Rock, they shake hands, Cena comes out on Raw the next night and is back to his old self.

They had the perfect chance to turn Cena heel last year and they blew it when they had him beat Lesnar. That's when I abandoned all hope. Cena will avenge his loss to Rock and everything will be back to as it was before.

There have been so many opportunities to turn Cena heel and they let me down. I've given up.

I hope they do something with Cena. Vince has to realize his product is getting stale. I think as Vince allows Mr. Levesque to exert more control, we'll see more 90's tactics. Not necessarily Rated R stuff from the attitude era (where to be honest, stuff like d**ks nearly getting chopped off and giving birth to hands should stay), but giving more wresters managers, and helping others create better promos is a step in the right direction. I also love the other ideas they have in mind like a high quality facility for developmental wrestlers and rehabbing wrestlers, and them taking indie promotions like Ring of Honor more seriously.

Hopefully, they plans in mind to improve the state of all non major title divisions, especially the divas, IC, and US titles, not to mention I think it's time to unify the two major titles and reintroduce the cruiserweight division.

Even IF/when Cena remains a face..I just hope they at least change him up a bit like being more of a tweener or a serious with a bit of an edge!

just watched the rock cena segment, and I know the Rock has alot of detractors on here but WOW that was good, that first answer especially, could feel the Rocks intensity

edit: Cenas second answer was actually really good too, really quite heelish, didnt like his other bits though

This is how I feel about John Cena:

Chain Gang > Cenation

The other big push was Batista and at 36 he wasn't going to rock the boat, he had HHH in his ear and Vince positioning him as the #2 star, he had no reason to do anything but what he was told and he remains the only guy to avoid shovel breath's "Gotta get ma win back!" motto.
:lmao:

That made me laugh out loud.

I'm so glad I took so many years off from watching wrestling. I remember defending Cena back in 2007 when the hate was beginning and I used to defend him a lot. I remember people not complaining about his character as much then but more his moveset and people thought it was too limited.

I really liked John Cena, especially in 2005, 2006 where I felt he was at his peak, though by during his feud with Edge I did start to notice he was changing.

It sucks that McMahon has pretty much turned Cena into the one thing he tried to stray away from in the attitude era. I remember McMahon saying the that the "time of the Superhero is over" and declared the "era of 'eat your vitamins and say your prayers'" was dead. Oh, how funny is it to see that video now in comparison to today's WWE.

Cena could honestly say "Eat your Vitamins and say your prayers" and not break his character today, which is sad in contrast to what Cena used to be.

What if Vince pulls a M. Night Shyamalan like twist and it turns out Cena was a hell all along.

Is WWE Main Event decent or better than Superstars?I'm getting cable again after 5 years,I usually have trouble with bad quality&laggy streams for Raw and looking up Smackdown on YouTube can be annoying and so I haven't seen an episode of Main Event.

DVR will come in very handy!

For a company that prides itself on listening to its fans, I wonder how much weight it gives to 3 hours and 20 minutes of near silence (except for the very loud “You can’t wrestle” chant aimed at Fandango, even if he did deliver a sweet flying leg drop). I think the dead crowd speaks volumes about the upcoming WrestleMania card and the lazy booking that goes along with setting up a string of rematches people weren’t really clamoring to see in the first place.

In fact, for the first time in years, I find myself more intrigued by the undercard than the main events, as I think matches like The Shield versus Orton/Sheamus/Big Show, Team Hell No versus Dolph Ziggler and Big E. Langston (Ziggy and Big E.), and Mark Henry versus Ryback all have the potential to steal the spotlight from the series of higher-profile matches where the outcomes hold little doubt or interest (so wait, Triple H, who was retired, is forced out of retirement and then “tricked” into wrestling a retirement match!?!).

We’re less than two weeks away from the biggest wrestling show of the year, and instead of buzz, the fans seem stuck on mute.

Not a bad Raw, still don't get Fandango, though he will put on a good match at WM with Y2J the guy is on an epic roll lately. I still think he needs a belt IC or WHC as he is back to his best.

The HHH/Barrett face off was nice, a possible hint at the future?!
Then he jobs to Mr Toad since he has a POS film out, wonder if he is letting Vincey play around with his soon-to-be wife for all these chances, as he has little skill and is just boring in character and mic.

The Shield match was crap, really bored of these guys now.

Happy to see my future ex-wife Kaitlyn get some sort of story/screentime. Just hope she doesn't drop the belt to AJ at Mania. I enjoy looking at AJ in her short shorts but she's not ready for a title, she's not had a real match in ages.

Holy shiii The Rock is super pumped, he seems to get bigger and more ripped every week, just hope he's worked on some cardio or at least alittle DDP Yoga to help out in ring. He will need it working with Cena who isn't that great.
A full half hour of this odd panel/debate ... where we just get Cena rambling on and on as always.
Why can't he just make his point, sort and blunt, meaningful. I get the impression he is bored, I feel nothing when he speaks anymore, even when he tries to be serious all I know is he will ramble on then shout at the end.

I kind of want Rock to win again. Prove he is truly the better of the two, more so to send Cena into another spiral and turn heel, just something to freshing the character please god something!! Get him out of the stupid merch uniform that makes him look like a roided up special person.

It's a lost/lose situation no matter who wins. Cena wins we get another boring run of him as champion as a stale character. Rock wins, and then a part-timers rolls out beating the two top guys each twice, which would be ridiculous. Cena has to win, and at Wrestlemania, not Extreme Rules.

Cena should beat the Rock, then offer the Rock a handshake, then give him the Attitude Adjustment to initiate the heel turn.

What would be nice if this bs Shield come in and ruin that match, no one wins, yet we win.

Or Punk comes in ... please just someone to match this match not happen as they are both too blown up to perform a good match for 20-30mins.

And have a non-decisive end to Wrestlemania? That'd be a first.

Though honestly, I'd love to see Punk/Taker end in a draw.

Both? Cena's stamina is pretty good. It's the other guy who gets blown up after 10 minutes.

That was a perfect time to turn him because two back to back losses and some time off would be a great way to reinvigorate him. Even if he didn't turn heel people might have started feeling him again. As a matter of fact I think Cena would be the only guy in the company that would benefit from those stupid losing streaks they always put on guys like MVP and Ziggler. If he lost a lot over a couple of months people would believe in that ******** they spew about him being an underdog.

Yep, and his story about "Redemption" would ring true instead of the forcefeeding they're doing now.

It was a perfect time last year and it's perfect this year,Pull the damn trigger WWE!!

It's been the perfect time for two years almost, starting with CM Punk's rise in 2011.

Something shocking needs to happen at this year's WrestleMania, the matches projected are the weakest in years.

They really need to do something because I forgot that Wrestlemania is two Sundays from now, and it doesn't even feel special. Even my friends who were thinking about pitching in "for da Rock" forgot too. They were all, "Oh yeah. How much is it again?" We checked to see, and there is no reason to pay $70 for it. They're really not doing well on The Road to Wrestlemania this year, and it's been the worse that I can remember since probably back in 95. They're really testing their audience with the price. I love The Rock, Punk, and Undertaker, but damn paying for that.

Back to back losses to Rock would be silly when Punks already had to do it. BOTH top guys...jobbing to a part timer? Thats just silly. Especially if they are planning to do Cena vs Punk at Mania any time soon. Cena/Punk is the feud of this era. ONE of em should have beaten Rock. If Cena loses thats just an excuse to keep this going with Rock which it doesn't need to. People saying back to back losses to Rock should happen just want Rock to win. Not because its the best option and not lookign at the big picture. The best option would be to build their top full time main event feud until the two top guys duke it out at the big show. Rocks already beaten Hogan back to back in big matches. He doesn't "need" to do it with Cena. He's already beaten Punk back to back in big matches too. Cena doesn't "need" to win either but he needs it more than Rock at least.

How is Cena vs Punk supposed to be THE feud at any WM when they both got their a**es kicked by a part timer? Pretty much admits this era is inferior. It'd be one thing if it was just Cena but Punk got jobbed out twice to the guy too. Cena and Punk need to be fighting over which is the top dog. Thats what all GREAT feuds boil down to. If NEITHER can even come close to making that claim it defeats the purpose. "Lets fight to see which one of us is SECOND best wrestler today when Dwayne isn't around" sounds kinda stupid.

Lance Storm is right: Cena doesn't need a heel turn so much as he needs a serious turn. We got a bit of that monday and it was a better change.

Booking for the big matches has been mostly poor. There's no real denying it especially when we are two weeks from Mania. Rocks title run has been pretty "meh" too which only makes Rock/Cena II feel even less special.

Wow...she's really got it going on back there. Best surprise I've had in a while, Kaleb. Thanks!
