The Wrestling Thread Has More Hype Than WrestleMania XXIX - - Part 92

Fandango is getting a spot on WrestleMania 29 because the character is Vince McMahon's new pet project. Vince is said to be a big fan of the gimmick and the arrogance that comes with it. The idea at WrestleMania 29 is for Chris Jericho to make the Fandango character stronger. Vince is really behind the success of Fandango.

success?

Some more notes from my live RAW experience:

- Main Event featured a handicap match between Miz and the Primetime Players. Primetime Players surprised me--they're better than I thought. Titus hit a standing fallaway slam, Darren Young hit an off the ropes Northern Lights suplex. They were given enough time in the match and showed off their skills. These are the guys that should be getting the tag belts when Team Hell No loses. Give them more mic time and ring time, they'd get over even more.

- Wade Barrett's Bull Hammer looks weak in person. He did it so fast, you didn't see the impact. When Show did the knockout punch, it connected. Maybe he just had a bad night.

Raw overall was okay- it made the WM card even more predictable and I think that Cena is trolling us turning heel

You can tell Fandango is one of Vince pet projects. Seems like the silly kind of old school gimmick he would be into.

So my friend told me he is going to get Wrestlemania, so I decided I would definitely watch Raw last night. I recorded it so I could skip commercials and stuff, but here are my thoughts as someone who is a person who has fallen out of wrestling over the last few years...

1. 3 hour show, I finished it in an hour and ten minutes
2. I had never really seen The Shield before. I really don't buy them as tough guy/intimidating heels. The one guy looks like a roided Justin Bartha with an awful hairstyle.
3. Daniel Bryan was really first getting rolling in the WWE when I stopped watching (I THINK he was US Champ on Smackdown, which I didn't watch). However, any time I watch Raw now (which is rare), he is great. He and Punk are probably my favorite guys on the roster right now. Back when I quit, it was Punk and Orton. But yeah, Bryan is awesome. I loved the use of The Tarantula. Question, though... Is he supposed to be heel or face? I am not familiar with the storyline right now, and he seems to be feuding with heels, teaming with a face, getting face pops, but have something of an angry heel attitude.
4. Big E has the worst finisher in the history of pro wrestling. That is all.
5. Cena still sucks. Maybe he would be better if he went heel, but he sucks.
6. I love Jericho, and was watching his match, but couldn't help but fast forward once Fandango came out.
7. Punk and Undertaker can basically do no wrong.
8. I miss the days when Intercontinental and US titles meant more. Like someone brought up already... Savage/Steamboat. Even back in the early Attitude era, with The Rock/Shamrock feuding for the belt. It felt like a bigger deal. Back in WCW, I remember Sting and Rick Rude headlining shows over the US title. Those are two of the all-time greats. I also really, really miss the days when tag team wrestling was something special. You just don't get the same caliber teams that used to exist like The Steiner Brothers, Road Warriors, Harlem Heat, Dudley Boys, Hardy Boys, Arn and Tully, this list could go on and on. The last tag team I really remember thinking was something special was Kendrick/London.

This reminds me... does Big Show not chokeslam anymore?

As we reported yesterday, Charlie Haas legitimately quit Ring of Honor during an event this past Saturday night and was said to have delivered a drunken rant to the fans, specifically directing comments to several of the ROH staff including head booker Delirious and announcer Kevin Kelly.

WZ has learned, through several eyewitness sources in ROH, that the following took place during intermission of the event which lead to Charlie Haas' in-ring incident:

Charlie was legitimately drunk, got into an altercation with Grizzly Redwood, who reportedly started it, and the altercation resulted in Charlie hitting Grizzly in the locker room. Delirious then screamed at Charlie for getting physical with Grizzly.

This all took place right before intermission and Haas was scheduled first after intermission. ROH officials were reportedly asked to try and talk Charlie out of going out to the ring, as the belief was he was in no shape to compete. Haas refused, and apparently told the locker room he was quitting anyway. Haas then went out to the ring, got on the mic, said this was his last match, had what was described as a "stinker" of a bout with a local wrestler, then spoke more to the crowd after the match, but not on the mic as he was cut off by ROH.

After Charlie left the ring, he was visibly was crying and spoke about his dead brother and all his dead friends.

In addition to the above, WZ was told by several people in ROH that few in the company will miss Haas. There are a lot of guys on the roster who feel he isn't as good as he thinks he is, and he portrayed himself in ROH as a star in WWE when he was barely on TV. Haas reportedly rubbed a lot of people in ROH the wrong way, especially those who he thought he was above, like guys on the ring crew, etc.

It's sad how they treat the IC title now (and the US title, but for the time being I'll focus on IC title). The Intercontinental title may not be the WWE title, but to me it's my second favorite title (in terms of prestige and history) behind the WWE title (Sorry, big gold). Others have said why it's important, so I won't go into details now, but that alone is pretty much enough for me to not even attempt to watch Wrestlemania because that's a huge glaring snub that I don't think I can forgive right now. What makes it even sadder is that they brought back the white title for that.

They can do better with the title. Hell, they could have even given it to Ryback used that as his push. It's baffling how they mistreated the title.

Damn. That is pretty sad. :csad:

Curtis is doing fine with what he has to work with, imo, and he is getting heat. I'd like to see him succedd with this, purely because it's hard enough to get over from the get go, let alone with trying to do that with a gimmick like this.

For a guy who supposedly can't wrestle, the top rope leg drop he performs is rather impressive and so far he's hit it perfectly almost every time he's used it. :o

I hope this new head of creative can craft new and interesting angles for face wrestlers, because that's what they're lacking.

I don't hate Orton, I just find him boring. He needs a fresh heel turn or something.

I think he can work as a face, but whenever he does turn face, WWE waters down everything that gives Orton heat. This time around, they took away his Punt finisher, which did a lot to get him over as a dangerous guy.

Orton should always retain a level of edge and danger no matter what alignment he has, much like The Undertaker. But, I'm not so convinced even a heel run would help Orton . Nowadays, all the heels are chicken**** cowards.

Quick question, what are some good TNA dvd's to get. I already have the best of Raven, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Slammiversey 2005, No Surrender 2005 and Genesis 2005.

Does the World Heavyweight Champion really even "matter" now? Like does Smackdown treat it as their top belt, like Raw does the WWE title, or is it just a secondary title? I miss when Smackdown and Raw both has separate, but both very good, rosters and titles, but the Undisputed champ could go to either show.

It doesn't. Brand extension has been over for more than year. They need to get rid of the heavyweight title and place that focus on the IC and US titles.

My feeling on titles:

- Unify the WWE and World titles: there only needs to be one "best in the company" right now.

- Retain the US title as the secondary heavyweight title, and have higher profile guys feud over that (like Orton, Del Rio, Jericho, etc.)

- Turn the Intercontinental Championship into an "unofficial" global cruiserweight or X-division title, see if it works out. Use it as a vehicle for staging exciting matches featuring guys like Tyson Kidd, Seth Rollins, Justin Gabriel and Sin Cara. Import a couple of other skilled competitors from Japan and Mexico. If this doesn't work out and the crowd doesn't take to it, just quietly turn the IC belt back to a secondary heavyweight title, no harm, no foul.

I hope this new head of creative can craft new and interesting angles for face wrestlers, because that's what they're lacking.

Not going to happen because he's only going to be used to be yelled at by Vince McMahon on an hourly basis.

Scottish developer Serious Parody have something just as big to shout about. The makers behind Wrestling Manager (http://www.wrestlingmanagement.com/) for iOS just announced a direct challenge to WWE's video game offering with 5 Star Wrestling which will launch as a PlayStation 3 exclusive this summer.

The news has been picked up by a number of top gaming websites, including GameRevolution.com, and you can check out their coverage by CLICKING HERE.

“5 Star Wrestling” Announced Exclusively For PlayStation 3

Dundee, Scotland – April 2013

The wrestling game world is long over due a shake up. The same development studio has dominated the genre for well over a decade with little to no competition. Well as the saying goes, ‘Enough is enough and it’s time for a change!’

Introducing ‘5 Star Wrestling’ the first PlayStation 3 wrestling game made out of pure passion for the art form of professional wrestling. This is not a Sports Entertainment game, it’s a Professional Wrestling game! The stories aren’t told through badly dubbed cut scenes, they’re told in the ring with truly genre enhancing gameplay!

Wrestling Psychology

Everything in wrestling is done for a reason. Have you ever noticed that technically gifted wrestlers will focus their attacks on an opponent’s legs if they are outmatched in size and strength? The reason that’s a popular strategy is because if a man can barely support his own body weight, he’s going to struggle to lift you above his head and send you crashing down to the mat.

In 5 Star Wrestling, the way you attack an opponent can significantly limit their offensive arsenal. If your opponent is faster than you and is constantly running around, attack their body to drain their stamina and slow them down. If your opponent is stronger than you, injure their legs and next time they try a lift up move like a Powerbomb, their knee will buckle and you’ll be left on your feet while they roll around crying like a baby.

Putting The Rules Back Into Wrestling

Wrestling has referee’s for a reason. Groin shots and eye pokes are dangerous weapons that have ended many matches and they will not be tolerated in a 5 Star Wrestling ring. If you want to kick a man in the crotch, by all means go for it but IF THE REF CATCHES YOU, it could be game over. Of course if he doesn’t catch you, you might just be on a winner!

Finishing Moves Galore

Finishing Moves are a huge part of a professional wrestling and 5 Star Wrestling revolutionizes finishing moves in wrestling games. Tired Finishers, Power Finishers, High Risk Finishers, Quick Finishers, Finishers that come from nowhere, 5 Star Wrestling has it all. There’s no robotic formula of 2 finishers per wrestler because 5 Star Wrestling is aiming to be as close to the sport of wrestling as possible. Some wrestlers utilize devastatingly powerful finishers, while others stringing multiple finishers together to end a match and some of the best wrestlers can perform their finishing moves from virtually any position making them incredibly dangerous. That’s the same approach 5 Star Wrestling takes and the end result is characters that are fun master. It’s The Moves That Make The Man It won’t surprise you to learn that the most highly praised wrestling games of all time were the ones where wrestlers could utilize the most amounts of moves and the most heavily criticized wrestling games were the ones where wrestlers didn’t have many moves at all. Not only does 5 Star Wrestling feature more Moves Per Wrestler than any other wrestling game in history (nearly 200 per wrestler) it also has the most character specific move sets of any wrestling game, making each character feel incredibly unique.

Styles Make Fights

In 5 Star Wrestling, each character has strengths and weaknesses but they also fit into certain archetypes. Brutes are powerful but slow and stupid. Ring Technicians are cunning with tactical move sets but are weaker than your average wrestler. Risk Takers are fast and can perform dare devil type moves but they hurt themselves in the process and Showman are highly resilient wrestlers with lots of finishing moves but they aren’t the strongest, fastest or smartest wrestlers in the mix. Heels (bad guys) have access to devastating (but risky) cheat moves, Faces (good guys) don’t cheat but they can receive huge momentum swings that allow them to perform amazing comebacks. The bottom line is, each character in 5 Star Wrestling feels unique and that means players will need to come up with different strategies if they want to be successful.
