The Wrestling Thread Has More Hype Than WrestleMania XXIX - - Part 92

I caught up on Impact last night, I thought Joey Ryan was funny reffing the Knockout's match, and Taryn brought some fire with her offense.

I liked Adam Pearce's vignette, he had a bit of an Austin attitude about him, surely he's a lock to get picked ahead of the over-sized botchadore.

I usually try to be positive about TNA but during the ten man tag I couldn't help but imaging casual fans flicking on and thinking "Why is Kurt Angle teaming with a bunch of jobbers against the biker gang jobbers from WWF circa 97?"

I'm enjoying the AJ angle and I think Storm has been superb in it, the last 3 weeks his promos have been on point.

I don't think I've ever seen a tag title match contract signing before, all I kept thinking was why didn't Roode or Aries ask Hernandez if he'd lost his clothes. I hate the way Chavo keeps bringing up he's a Guerrero to get a cheap pop. They should turn him heel and have him rip-off Eddie completely to get massive heat.

Bully was in top bastard form in the closing segment with Brooke, who also played her part well. The stuff with him getting her front row seats makes me think she is gonna help him win and be revealed as in on it with him.

To be honest I'm looking forward to the Bully vs Jeff TLC match and the 2 out of 3 Falls Tag titles match on next weeks Impact more than anything on Mania.

I'm starting to get into the Wrestlemania spirit. Must be interviews and photos that are circulating.

I had no idea about those matches in Impact next week. I've been neglecting TNA quite a bit.

- In his final interview before going into the WWE Hall of Fame, Bruno Sammartino spoke with Inside The Ropes. Here are highlights:

Thoughts on Billy Graham's recent comments about him:

"I think I feel sorry for him. I think he’s done so much drugs throughout his career that his brains been burned out because he speaks of things he knows nothing about. For example in my own situation, he knows very well that when I spoke about WWE and was very critical about them, that he had heard me say if they changed everything that I would change my mind. He heard me from years ago saying yes I would. He’s been critical of the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in Amsterdam, New York and he wanted out of that because he got mad at somebody, I don’t know who. He recently was appalled at CM Punk because he said something about me wrestling in the Garden once a month. The things that Billy Graham says, I really have no idea why he says them. He talks about things without really knowing all the facts. I just think there’s something wrong with the man."

His thoughts on John Cena:

"He looks very well, looks like he works out very hard. He moves well in the ring and I have only seen him maybe twice all together. I have not seen enough of him, but from what I’ve seen you can tell he absolutely is one of the top ones in the organization but sometimes I would like to see these guys wrestle a 30-40 minute match. i can get a better idea of how good they are, when they have to put in that kind of time, tells me wheat kind of condition they have and how their skills would be out there for that amount of time. I haven’t seen any long matches like that yet. One of the times I saw him in a cage match and there was a referee and they were doing wrestling holds. In my day, you would have a cage match as maybe the third match with a guy and there would be no referee, and just everything goes and the fans used to find that extremely exciting. Now it’s so changed, thes guys are doing regular armlocks and headlocks. It’s so different now, I just can’t compare it to the era I was involved in."

What he thinks of CM Punk as a performer:

"I think his interviews for a villain...I think he’s very, very good. That’s why it surprised me that Billy Graham would say anything when he used to be a villain who would say things to put down his opponents, even myself. I think he does a very good job when he gets on the microphone, how he talks, how he says it. I took no offence at CM Punk, I know he was doing it to be a villain, that’s what he does. But I think he does a very good job when he gets on that microphone as a villain, what he says, how he talks, how he says it. As a villain I think he does a tremendous job and as a wrestler, I’ve seen him a few times and I think he’s pretty darn good. He’s not too bad at all. The only thing is I think if he was in my era, he would be a little bit too small, we had bigger built guys back then."

It's clear that TNA was holding back on this week's edition of Impact until they get to Corpus Christi, TX on April 11, where they're putting all their energies into.

In the 10-man tag team match, Joseph Park shined in that one entertainment-wise.

Taryn has done well in her first outing in the ring.

If Brooke Hogan is to turn heel, I hope they change her name to Miss Hollywood Hogan.

Pretty funny to see Hernandez the only one in his wrestling gear while everyone else wore suits.

I hope TNA signs Adam Pearce to a contract, but I hope the judges don't do something stupid where they eliminate Pearce and judge Magno.

They also found a way to differentiate AJ Styles from Sting of 1996-97 by having him talk little.

I'm so excited for this year's 'Mania; I'm ordering it and have invited a friend over to watch it with me, and am genuinely interested in every single match both on the main card and pre-show.

Spoken like a true WWE mark or casual,Not a bad thing though as I miss being a wrestling casual sometimes and once going into the IWC..There's no going back.

WWE is still successful in many ways cause of marks&casuals and WM will be successful cause of them.

More Mania interviews. Punk's interview with Sam Roberts. We've read the comments, but didn't see the actual interview itself.

I saw the other side of that interview with Rosenberg yesterday. Punk might not go on last, but he is the true " Main Event" at Wrestlemania 29.

Really good interview with Paul Heyman from Wrestlemania weekend. He revealed something surprising about Brock's health that me rewinding so to make sure I heard it right.

That's crazy to think Brock has been carrying that disease for so long and didn't even know about it. It's also interesting "the beast" would connect to Heyman in such a down to earth way. It don't think Brock is as bad as people make him out to be.

He has Hercules, Fast and Furious 7 (maybe), Arabian Nights, Journey 3 and probably one or two other films he has yet to shoot. This is why he's saying he's not sure if he's going to be at Wrestlemania 30. I would assume that at least three of those films he's going to have to shoot overseas. Remember he's a Movie Actor now. He's basically saying "I don't know if I will be competing at WM 30 because of my filming schedule.

The Rock isn't Denzel Washington or Tom Cruise in that the studio cannot accommodate the needs of the actor by shooting around his schedule. He doesn't have the skins on the wall to say "hey, I want to shoot the film on certain dates so that I can do other things." He can't do that...at least not yet. If Tom Cruise were to say the same thing, the studio would probably grant Tom's wishes because he's Tom Cruise. He has skins on the wall. The Rock does not. If he has to shoot one of those films that prevents him from competing at Wrestlemania 30, there's really nothing he can do about.

I know why Rock won't be able to make WM 30. He's a movie star and I'm glad he's returned to the action genre. I'm looking forward to all the stuff you mentioned ( except Journey 3). My point was about him saying he would carry the company. How can you carry a company when your not around. Also he talks about bringing it to new heights. How is he doing that? The only good thing might be Vince could change his mind about letting wrestlers outside stuff. Jericho still gets to tour with Fozzy. SO maybe that's what he means. I like Rock , but his comments don't make sense unless they are kayfabe.

Same. I really didn't care last week. But this week has gotten me in the 'Mania spirit and I can even say I'm sort of excited now.

I'm not ordering , but plan to buy the blu ray. I'm just as big a mark so I'm glad there are people who will still enjoy this Mania. At the same time I realize I might be part of the problem , lol.
