Been a while since there's been much discussion in here, so I thought I'd start off a topic that is present.
Triple H and the "charges" debate. I think first that needs context, as I'd say the charges are that he's biased against black male wrestlers? As he's pushed Bianca, Naomi and Jade, the latter hasn't become champion yet because she's still not really ready, but she's been protected all the way. Obviously we've got Samoan guys all over the main event scene, and the Japanese ladies are booked pretty well, while the current women's World Champion is Latina.
Now I know a lot of this stems from how he disbanded the Hurt Syndicate, at least as far as booking goes. I wasn't around for the group, but the reason MVP gives, that he disbanded the group because it was too similar to the Bloodline is a red flag, I mean The Shield vs The Wyatts, anyone? Surely the Bloodline vs The Hurt Syndicate was money left on the table? And they also kept the Judgment Day around. I know some would argue the Street Profits but I'd say the bigger issue is the general malaise when it comes to tag team wrestling these days, fans just don't care as they've been conditioned to see a tag team as merely a stepping stone for the next singles guy to push.
That brings me to Carmelo Hayes, the most recent of the charges. Off tops I think he's been mishandled, in NXT Shawn basically took his blueprint with Diesel and applied it to Melo, it's a tried and tested formula to put a supremely athletic and cocky smaller heel with a heater, and there's no shortage of big guys floating around developmental that could have filled the bodyguard role. Instead they took a guy who is undersized and put him in a bunch of matches, most of which he lost, and then got some traction with Miz and split them before getting any real momentum, like a tag title win, because as I mentioned tag wrestling is just a means to the next singles push. So he's a face now, easy enough against the Miz, as Miz as a face is about as palatable as a glass of ass sweat, but is it the best for Melo long term? Right now I think he's much more suited to being a heel. To keep this even I think you have to acknowledge that Melo is small, even against Sami he looked smaller, that's still a factor in WWE to an extent.
I've probably written too much, so I'll close with this, the biggest test is about to come. Oba Femi should be on the main roster soon, he's big and has huge ring presence, you have to smash a guy like that over, like Goldberg, the Road Warriors, Brock etc....Trips own booking blueprint for Gunther provides the obvious road map, he should debut beating Sami for the US title in the open challenge, it's a lay-up to get him off to a strong start.
