The appearance and attitude just didn't match the tone of those spots. The wording of the promos suited who Jericho is, but the style of those spots didn't.

I think, like others have suggested, we're gonna see a darker, more twisted Jericho. We're gonna see the character go in a direction we've never seen. That doesn't mean he has to come out all in black or something, completely unrecognisable. We're gonna see where its going.

He DID look maniacal at the end. He TOTALLY screwed with the crowd. All that hype, all that basking in the adulation, only to walk out without saying a word?

It's... probably one of the smartest promos I've ever seen

Could be since Kane said something would happen to Cena.

Yeah I've never cared for face Jericho.

Agreed, the spots suggested a darker character, of course by the end he looked slightly maniacal.

I don't think they were nearly dark enough for that though. All they were, were a couple kids talking about some kind of "savior's" return for the "end". Both things that Jericho has talked about in the past for promos.

When Taker had kids in his promos before his American Badass return, it had much creepier music, with creepy rhymes being spout by girls looking like they were straight out of The Shining. These kids weren't nearly creepy enough.

It was all about building him up. Even if they don't directly address it, which I still think they're gonna make him think he's some crazy messiah or something due to how he looked at the end, the tone clearly built him up to play to his ego of being some big savior like he's done in the past.

Because they sure weren't nearly dark enough for Taker.

If they go for a crazy messiah type gimmick, then the spots will make sense, but we'll see how next week pans out. I'm hoping that is the road Y2J goes down.

Jericho gave us the opposite of what we expected. It was brilliant. I am a little down but what he did was effective and accomplished what he was trying to convey...we are marks (some smarks) and he tear down our expectation of how wrestling should be.

Heel Jericho has always been better than face Jericho... However, this is one of my favorite Face Jericho moments.

With help from the Rock of course. :p

Originally, I had my little heart set on the "she" in the promos being Katie Vick's ghost and leading to a Kane a reappearance. The bloom's pretty much off that rose. However, with something brewing with Kane's no-show in this match, I'm going to cling to that early thought again for a few minutes. Makes me all tingly.

Heh, I still bet that with the possibility of Jericho coming back into some weird savior routine, I'm wondering if he'll start talking about some mysterious "she" who brought him back, going on with it for several weeks, maybe saying she'll be coming back to save the WWE Universe, leading up to her return too, and maybe that will be Steph.

Kane came thru the ring.....BWAHAHAHAHAAA!

Man, when was the last time they had a guy come through the ring?

What is he gonna try to have his way with Ryder down there? Does he think Zacks related to Katie Vick?

"He's going to be sucked down into the abyss"? Seriously, Cole?

It was a nice gimmick until I heard the fire extinguisher.

That fire from under the ring reminded me of the blood well scene from Army of Darkness.

So... How exactly did Cena learn about hate tonight? Kane gets an F as a teacher...

I like that Ziggler is getting a title shot at the Royal Rumble.

All that supposed drama just comes across as uber cheesy. I couldn't help but laugh it all. :funny:

They just had to take it over the top, didn't they? :lmao:

Haven't seen the fire out of the ring since Taker chokeslammed Edge to Hell after Summerslam HIAC match in '08. :funny:

The first time the coming from under the ring gimmick was done was at IY6, February 1996 when Taker came from under the ring during the Bret vs Diesel cage match, can't believe Vince thought it would work all these years on.

Also, anyone else think Jericho looks like a cross between Jon Bon Jovi and Kiefer Sutherland these days?

Typical WWE. Why did I even allow my expectations to get so huge? I'm glad Jericho is back, but as much as I love him, even his return didn't live up to the hype of those spots. I was even expecting something big to happen with Kane and Cena. Instead, he came out of and went back into the ring then some random fire. Oh boy.

What a WWE-style letdown.

Jericho is back. Too bad he's not in WWE 12.
