Btw X Knight, the S is supposed to be $249 now so it will be half the price of the X at launch. Not sure if that affects your thinking on why it exists. I think it is almost seen as the long term replacement for the original X1. I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped making the original at some point.

I thought the price drop on the S was just for this week.

I do think the price drop should be permanent once the X hits in the fall.

Oh is it? Didn't realise.

^ yeah. I think it's just for this week.

though, tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if it does become permanent, especially closer to the X's launch.

however, a cheaper S would only put more pressure on the X, imo.

The S already has a 4K player and it already upscales games to 4K. MS is going to have to show just how much better playing games in "true 4K" will be and just how much better games will look and perform on the X compared to the S.

A consumer shopping for an Xbox this holiday is going to look at the 2 consoles and ask why should I pay $200-$250 more for the X? How is it that much better to justify the cost?

MS has to demonstrate that over the next few months.

cuz, to be quite honest, I can't tell much of a difference between the Pro and the S or the Slim PS4. I only bought the Pro because it was more "future proof" with the better tech and only $100 more than the Slim.

The X is going to have to overcome a larger price difference.

The fact that the Xbox One X has a 4K optical drive is a big factor for me if I do take the plunge and buy a console. I already own a good 4K TV and want to be able to play 4K movies (not particularly interested in 4K streaming) at the highest quality.
This seems the cheaper way to do that, rather than buying a dedicated 4K (movie) disk player. Which at the moment is way more than this console will cost.

I think the XBX is a pretty big mistake that probably will bite Microsoft down the line.

Hope it works out for them

Is the X 4K player the same quality as the S 4K player?

so I've been reading conflicting reports.

but is the Xbox X not capable of running VR?

or have they just not talked about VR on the new console?

with MS' push into VR/AR, I think it would be a huge missed opportunity of the X was not built with VR/AR in mind.

edit: Just saw this article, and they are point blank saying no VR for the X?

https://www.cnet.com/news/microsofts-xbox-one-x-wont-support-virtual-reality/

Frankly, I'm surprised. I thought one of the points last year when they teased the Scorpio/X was that it would support VR. And with MS's own push into VR/AR, I figured they'd want to integrate that into their most powerful console.

VR is something they're making a point not to talk about atm... which is strange.

I think the only issue with the XB1X is the price. $100/£100 off the cost and I think it would be perfect.

I thought it was VR capable but they aren't to doing VR on it just yet as they don't think VR is quite ready yet to appeal to the masses.

yeah. a $400 price tag would have been the perfect price.

yeah. there seems to be conflicting info going around, or else these "reporters" are misreporting.

kind of reminds me last year when MS debuted the S and teased Scorpio and over the next few days in the press reports, there was conflicting info on just what the S and Scorpio could do.

MS needs to clarify their stance on VR and the X.

Are you interested in VR now or for the future?

more for the future.

and I'd say I'm more interested in AR like Hololens than VR.

and I expected the Scorpio/X, with its extra horse power, to be more "future proof" when it comes to tech like VR/AR. Maybe not for this year. But certainly over the next few years.

If the current PS4 and PS4 Pro can handle "entry level" VR, then I figured the X would be able to handle something more powerful.

MS already has a partnership with Occulus, don't they?? And, I thought MS was working with other partners to bring more affordable VR headsets.

So, MS is interested in VR/AR. which is why the absence from the X is so curious.

I think they don't know exaxctly what they want to do with regard to this fast changing/developing technology and want to avoid being questioned on it and being pressured to commit to anything till the landscape becomes clearer lol.

but the way some of the articles are reporting it is like VR is never coming to the X.

so, either mixed messages from MS or straight up misreporting.

and given the current state of internet "journalism," I wouldn't be surprised if it's the latter.......lol.

I mean, you read some of those game news articles, and you can tell a lot of these writers don't even know what the hell they're talking about.......lol.

Yeah there aren't standards that these guys have to meet to get the job in the first place, unlike with physical publications.

^ I'd say even physical publications aren't immune to "shoddy" reporting/journalism these days, either......lol.

anyways, while I think MS had a decent E3 this year, I feel like, out of the main 3 showings, MS lost - for me, at least.

MS did nothing to convince me to go back to the Xbox, either by getting an S now or the X later. There really are no announced Xbox exclusives that make me feel like I need to own an Xbox.

Nintendo, however, won, because all the info today has convinced me to get a Switch ( and possibly a 3DS as well ) this year.

And Sony merely confirmed that I made the right choice in sticking with the PS4 for games like Spider-Man and GOW.

Well, that's it, I'm getting an XBOX,
but it won't be the so-called 'X' brand of it.
$500.00 is way too much of a steep price tag
for that. I'll be more than fine getting a still 4K
compatible 'S'. I don't even plan on getting a 4K TV
in the near future anyway. So, it's not like it's a necessity.

The lack of worthwhile exclusives is disappointing but the the superior hardware in the XBX should result in multiplatform games playing better or looking better on the XBX. That more than makes up for the lack of exclusives.

And after all the fuss over the gap between the original X1 and PS4 we'll see if it was actually a load of rubbish or whether an even more significant gap for multiplats really matters or not. I think it's split though. Some people care more about exclusives and less about performance and vice versa.

it is interesting how the roles have flipped in terms of the power advantage.

all the Sony "fanboys" who screamed "We have the Power!!" and "PS4 is best place for multiplats!!" can no longer hold onto that claim.

The problem, though, for MS is that this is 4 years into the console cycle, and the PS4 has built up a substantial lead and much larger install base. It also does lay claim to more exclusives and a better variety of games.

So, while the X will no doubt have the power advantage with multiplats, it remains to be seen if it will be enough.

ah, thanks.

I figured they would have at least teased the next season of content.

I don't think they even confirmed there would be another season. They just released the trailer for Eagle last night.

Enough for what? The PS4 will (deservedly) be the big winner this gen whatever happens going forward, too much momentum already and people making the jump to join their friends etc. I'd just be interested to know if all that talk about performance when it was less of a difference will still be applicable now that it's more significant but the other way round.
