soon. as in possibly before Xmas.

Bought a standalone 4K player during BF, but had to give it to another family member to replace their old Blu-Ray player.

so, I'm still in need of a 4K player myself. As of now, I've tried and had so-so luck with the major 4K player brands, so the only one I have yet to try is the new X1 X.........lol.

I've come this far with the X1. might as well give it one last shot, right?? :oldrazz:
Oh wow! Yeah, plus this one is likely to best fit your needs.

ah, that's ok. I might be able to test it out myself soon anyways. :cwink:

hey, have you played Forza 7 yet on your X? ACO?

what games would you recommend to best take advantage of the X?

Best Buy has a B1G1 50% off sale for certain games, and Forza 7 and ACO are both on the list.

Haven't got either but they will definitely show the system off really well. I've been playing old games to see all the differences. This is the best motivation to me finishing them all.

ah, ok. I'm not the biggest fan of AC, and I don't normally buy racing games like Forza.

but if I can get it for half off with another game, then I might go for it.

as for old games, do you notice improvements on all old games or just the Enhanced ones?

oh, and do you have your X plugged directly into the wall outlet or hooked up to a surge protector/battery backup?

Sorry thought I'd responded to this already. I have my X plugged into a multi-plug with surge protector. Haven't bought anything specific new for it but Gears 4 looks great. Old games all seem to be smoother with much quicker loading times and no performance issues on anything, even ones that used to get frame rate drops. I'd imagine both AC4 and Forza 7 would look awesome. Even Forza 5 looked great on it. :woot:

ah, thanks for that.

I asked about the surge protector because apparently, MS actually recommends plugging it directly into the wall.

I always had it plugged into a surge protector. so I was wondering perhaps if that was causing my prior issues ( like it's not getting enough power? ).

What's the reason they say to plug into a wall directly?

What's the reason they say to plug into a wall directly?

they say it's because the Xbox has a built in surge protector. so hooking it up to another surge protector could cause conflicts or issues. I guess.

Oh. I mean I didn't even do it because it was a surge protector. Was just plugging it into a multi-plug because I have 2,000 electronic devices.

haha.

yeah, I normally plug my stuff into multi-plug surge protectors.

I was just trying to figure out why the **** have I had such bad luck with prior X1s.......lol. maybe I was doing something wrong........

Some of it sounded like your stone age internet. I had problems with my 360 when I had internet faster than that 12 years ago. As in it took me a couple of years before I could even get a connection with Xbox live!

yeah. my internet situation is still something I have to contend with. especially with the X and those larger 4K file sizes.

I think I can manage and work around it if I'm careful with how much I update at one time. I guess I just won't buy so many games at once - which I supposed is a good thing.......lol.

fortunately, for most of the current games, I think I still have them downloaded to my external drive - I think. so, if they're still there, that would save on the total download sizes. I'd just need to download the 4K updates for the available games.

but, yeah, my internet situation is still one potential roadblock to getting the X. and it's not something I can easily fix. :csad:

If you focus on a few games at a time then it won't matter so much. They download in the background when you're playing other games so as soon as you have one game ready to go it's all good.

it's not so much the speed that I'm worried about but my 1TB/mo data cap.

if I don't watch out, those 4K files can eat into that data cap fast. especially if/when I start getting new games I haven't already download.

Like if I get Forza 7, that would be close to 100GBs I'd have to download from scratch and that would be already 1/10th of my data cap.

1TB/month? I don't have a data cap and don't really know what is a lot but that's more than enough for game downloads surely?

1TB/month? I don't have a data cap and don't really know what is a lot but that's more than enough for game downloads surely?

depends on the size of the games and how many you download in a month.

Let's assume you go all digital and buy 4 games each around 90-100 GB ( hey, it's Xmas! ). So that would be around 400 GB total, almost half of your monthly 1TB data cap. And that doesn't include other day to day activities, or streaming activities, etc.

If you are a heavy streamer/downloader (especially 4K stuff ), and a gamer, that 1TB data cap might not last long.

now, for my own family, we're not super heavy streamers/downloaders, aside from my gaming activity. Our average seems to be around 200-300 GB per month, but there have been some months where it got closer to 400-500 GB per month.

so, you can see how throwing in a few large 4K files to download can push that data cap close to the 1TB limit.

of course, that's one reason why I can't go all digital. installing a good chunk of the total file size from the disc saves on the data cap usage.

and, again, I think if I limit myself to one or two big file games a month, I should be ok. and that's assuming I'll buy something each month, which I don't always do.

I just have to be more mindful of what I buy and download. but I think that's a good thing cuz it will enforce discipline.......lol.

and that site I linked to the other day that lists the X Enhanced file sizes will help. assuming those sizes are accurate, they weren't as bad as I thought they'd be.

so, I think I can manage - just have to be more careful.

It's only the very recent AAA games that are that kind of size. The kind of games where you wouldn't be able to really effectively play more than 4 at a time and they wouldn't come out all in one month anyway. I mean most gamers don't have more than a 4TB drive (mine's 8) and that is expected to last a long time so most people are obviously not downloading anything like 400GB a month or they'd be done in the first year. Or within 2.5 months with the regular 1TB drive lol.

When you said your data cap was really low before I thought it would be much more of a struggle but unless you download 4K films or everyone is non-stop streaming 4K Netflix then I doubt there would be an issue. The only time you'd have to be careful is if your hard drive gets wiped or when transferring your entire library (to a new Xbox for eg). Then a 1TB cap would be a disaster if you have a 4TB collection.

the other tricky time would be right now around the Holidays, BF, Xmas, etc.

where you can go overboard and snatch up multiple AAA titles ( some with large file sizes ) at bargain prices. and even multiple smaller titles can add up.

so, yeah, you just have to be mindful. and speaking of streaming/downloading 4K files. I know in PM I was asking you if you tried playing 4K video files on your X.

but now that I think about, I don't think I'd be downloading much 4K files anymore, especially if I do get an X. Those 4K video files can often run multiple GBs just for a short YouTube vid. And I can't really tell much of a difference on those vs 1080p files.

and that rules out 4k streaming Netflix and other services - which is why I prefer buying the actual 4K disc if I'm going to watch a movie or show in 4K.

Do you have an indicator that shows you how much of the data cap you've used at any given point? For me having a data cap would be a nightmare unless it was so far above my needs that I wouldn't have to ever think about it.

yeah, I can log onto my ISP's site and check my account. they provide a usage meter

in fact, I just got through doing that, checking my usage per month for this year.

the average was around 150-200GB/mo. but there were a few months where it got up to 400-500GB/mo.

so, I do have to be careful and watch it. And I'll have to check the usage meter more frequently. Most of the time, I don't even think about it.......lol.

That's good at least. Sounds like you've got quite a bit of room at least. Just need to watch it when you're transferring everything. Even if you bought 5 huge games you'd likely be ok and by checking could just decide to download the 5th the next month if it had been a very high usage month.

hopefully, all of my games and apps are still on my external drive ( hoping I didn't erase it......lol ).

so hopefully, hooking it up to the X will be as simple as plug and play - no need for network transferring.

I'll just have to download the 4K updates for the appropriate games. but this time, I'll make sure I turn Auto updates off so I can pick and choose when and which games I want to update.

My 4k updates just happened by themselves. Love having an unlimited cap!

So what are the chances of you getting an X1X any time soon? When does Soul Calibur IV come out?

lucky you. :o

wish I had better internet options in my area. :csad:

and Soul Calibur IV was already out 9 years ago when I got my 360. :woot:

SC VI is supposed to be out next year sometimes - probably mid to late 2018 I'd say.

my chances of getting an X soon are high - probably around 80-90%.

could be in the coming weeks. maybe even today when I head out to do some errands. my local store still has a few left in stock.

was trying to wait on some reward point coupons to come in though. that will help with the cost somewhat.

Ha yes. I thought you might have been waiting for VI to come out before you got the console.

Nice! Yeah might as well take advantage if you can get it cheaper that way.
