I wouldn't expect anyone to give away AAA games until they were old enough to not be saleable at more than a nominal amount. But I agree, when I see the claims that someone has given away £1000s worth of games, that's obviously crap unless someone was planning on buying 800 indie games at full price or old AAA games at much more than you can get them for brand new in the stores or amazon by that point.

na, I have no idea coz I don't really know what that is.

It's an annual mega cheesy song contest between all the euro nations. Good advertising for one day I guess but that's about it.

do you think they will show off Windows 10 on the X1 at E3?

I don't think they'll focus that much on anything that isn't games in their headline show. That stuff can be revealed later.

I'm really looking forward to what Microsoft say about Windows 10 for pc in particular but also X1 and I think we'll get that at a separate press conference with all the details outside of E3.

hope we get more info soon. and I hope the X1 doesn't have to wait too long before getting Windows 10. They did say they will release 10 for the PC first, with other platforms coming "later."

Casey Hudson, who led the Mass Effect series at BioWare up until his leave last August, has joined Microsoft Game Studios as a creative director, Microsoft announced.
“Today, we’re proud to announce that Casey Hudson has joined Microsoft in the role of Creative Director at Microsoft Studios, where he’s working on Microsoft HoloLens, Xbox, and other awesome projects,” an Xbox Wire blog post reads. “He reports directly to Kudo Tsunoda, CVP of Next Gen Experiences, in this new role and he’s currently busy relocating from Edmonton, Canada to his new home here in Redmond, WA.”
Xbox Wire has a short interview with Hudson, which we’ve replicated below.
Xbox Wire: What can you share about your new role?
Casey Hudson: As Creative Director at Microsoft Studios, my primary focus will be the creative direction of HoloLens Experiences. I am extremely passionate about the potential of this kind of technology, as anyone who’s talked with me over the last couple of years can attest. I feel that the work being done at Microsoft on mixed reality and holographic computing will have a tremendous impact on how all of us interact with technology in the coming years. It’s an honor to be able to join such an incredibly talented team, and to work on something that will fundamentally advance the role computers play in our daily lives.
I will also be working with innovative new Xbox titles, helping them to find success through clear direction and creative vision. I will be involved in driving a creative focus for Xbox and Windows gaming, and I couldn’t be more excited to be involved in that. The projects I’ve seen in development so far are amazing, and it’s going to be an awesome experience helping these teams cross the finish line.
Xbox Wire: What are you most excited about in coming to work for Microsoft?
Casey Hudson: I’ve been an Xbox fan since I first learned about it during the development of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The games I’ve worked on have found the greatest success on Xbox, and it’s my preferred way to play games. I’m also a lifelong PC player, and I feel like I grew up with the advent of the personal computer. Given all that, coming to work for Microsoft is a special honor for me.
But in addition to the privilege of working for Microsoft and Xbox, I am particularly excited about working on HoloLens. I was fortunate to try an early prototype of HoloLens before it was announced, and I was blown away by the technology and what it was already capable of. Walking on Mars while sipping coffee in an office setting, Skyping with a friend who can draw on the walls of my environment, sculpting an object in 3D modeling software while a hologram of it sits on a table next to me… These first experiences cemented my belief that holographic computing was where I needed to be. There’s no end to the potential of this technology, and I look forward to being able to influence the full-spectrum experience on HoloLens, from hardware to OS, to applications and games.
Above all, I’m most excited about how much I will be able to learn from the team at Microsoft, who have already accomplished so much with HoloLens.
Xbox Wire: When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?
Casey Hudson: Naturally, I love playing video games, whether on console, PC, or mobile. I tend to enjoy the extreme ends of the spectrum most: the biggest AAA blockbusters, and the tiniest, most experimental indies. Playing games with my two young sons is a particularly good learning experience – not just because they’re often better at it than me, but because of how the next generation views digital entertainment having grown up in the age of digital downloads, touchscreens, and mobile games. Seeing things through their eyes helps me build a vision of where things are going next.
I also try to get away from digital and virtual worlds as much as possible when I’m away from work. As a private pilot, I like the challenge of a whole different set of problem-solving and communication challenges, where the stakes are much more real. Music is another outlet for me (guitar, keyboard, saxophone), as is art (be it painting concepts in Photoshop or simply drawing on a sketchpad). I have deep passions in both the arts and sciences, and the more I do of one, the more I crave the other. And ultimately, that’s what led me to do the kind of work I do today – a balanced approach where I’m able to work with amazingly talented team members across a wide spectrum of abilities. So while I dabble in a lot of different things and have an appreciation for many disciplines, it only gives me a deeper appreciation for the world-class experts I’ve had the privilege to work with in my career.

I already have Apple TV but it's a cool assesory

Does an Apple TV act as a tuner, too? Did not know that.

Good luck to Hudson even if a lot of people seem to hate him!

It seems like this console has been hibernating and will officially come alive once Halo 5 comes out. So much rests on how that turns out. Every successive main Halo game has improved its campaign for me so I hope this continues and we get something truly next gen.

I don't get the big deal about Xbox on Windows 10 but that's because I don't have a PC and my tablet is an apple and so I haven't bothered to look much into it.

Does the Xbox One get Windows 10 in the UI like 360 had Windows 8 or it's just a PC thing?

well, at this point, we really don't know what changes Windows 10 will bring to the X1.

hopefully there will be some UI improvements. not just in terms of visuals, but also in terms of performance and efficiency.

but, we'll see, I guess.

Performance of what? The UI? I don't think the actual performance of the UI is a problem. Some may not like the setup of it (I personally have no issue with it), but it's very smooth to operate overall I've found. Unless you're talking about hardware, but I don't think it's possible for a OS to really do anything there.

well, just make everything "snappier." or better organized.

I wonder if they will move away from the tiles format, as well, since Windows 10 seems to be deemphasizing that.

of course, most important to me, would be "fixing" the install/download process.

now, I know we've discussed that issue many times before. The rest of you guys haven't had a problem, whereas I had a bad experience with an unacceptably long install time.

but it's not just me, as I keep reading about others having similar issues.

if nothing else, the download/install process needs to be more "uniform" across games and users.

Spencer himself has acknowledged the issue and said they're working on it.

On the PS4 it seems every physical game install is "ready to play" in about 2-4 minutes. And that seems to be the case with pretty much every user experience I've read about.

Games on the PS4 install from the disc and get ready to play super fast. The update downloads in the background at the same time and usually finishes in about another 5 minutes or so.

It's fast, efficient, and a uniform experience across every game I've played so far.

Perhaps it's how the current X1 OS was designed to operate. ( I read somewhere it might have something to do with the initial DRM policies and that's why the installs seem to take longer ).

so, perhaps a change in the underlying OS will allow MS to speed up and improve that process.

I don't really know how things can get "snappier" is what I was trying to say. I can snap into and out of apps and games in a split second with my Bone. Having played a PS4, it's just as fast with that in that regard. I don't know if that would affect install times, but I've yet to have a real problem with that, either, as you know.

Obviously, YMMV on the organizational aspect of what we have now. Some don't like it, and it's kind of weird at first, but I really don't have an issue with it.

and to be clear, I didn't really have a problem with the tile layout or the responsiveness of the UI, either. I got used to it after a few days.

but I do remember hearing people saying some apps, like bringing up the Friends list would take forever. or stuff constantly crashed and kicked them back to the dashboard.

but again, I didn't experience those things myself.

One thing I did like about the X1 UI was that you could pin your favorite apps to the home screen.

Wish you could do the same on the PS4. :(

so, I hope they don't take that away.
