I agree, they threw us a jumbled puzzle. I'm just trying to assemble the pieces. :oldrazz:

Idk
At least she wouldn't be INO if they incorporated her comic backstory

the only plausible scenario that I would personally accept would have been if

they went the Hannah Montanna route. where Mary Jane "MJ" Watson is a popular teen model/actress. You see "hot/glamour" MJ (Zendaya) all over the billboards, magazines, tv, etc. The kids at school all talk about her.

But, MJ actually doesn't like all the spotlight and attention. She just wants to live a normal, low key life and fit in. So, she intentionally dresses down and frumpy looking and goes by the name of "Michelle." And she acts reserved and withdrawn, opposite to her "public" demeanor as MJ.

At school, she befriends Peter and Ned and she develops a secret crush on Peter. They treat her like a "normal" kid who's "one of them." However, she's disappointed to learn that Peter has his eyes on Liz who he asks to the Homecoming dance.

Through her interactions with Peter, who she can tell is hiding something, and maybe with Spidey, who she relates to as a "misunderstood" public figure, "Michelle" learns to embrace who she is and not feel like she has to hide behind a false identity.

So, on Homecoming night, after Peter gets dumped by Liz ( for constantly standing her up due to Spidey duties ), Michelle decides to act on her newfound courage and asks Peter if he'd like to go to the dance with her instead. He agrees, and "Michelle" shows up at his door as THE MARY JANE WATSON - y'know the famous teen model/actress.

She says to him "Face it, Tiger. You just hit the jackpot!"

The "twist" in the movie would have been that "hot MJ" is a constant presence throughout the film ( billboards, magazines, tv, etc. ). However, since Michelle looks and acts so totally different from model/actress MJ, the audience ( and Peter ) wouldn't put the two together until the end.

at least that's how I would have written it. :o

Wow, I actually would've been okay with that scenario. Again, it's not ideal as I'd prefer Mary Jane be, ya know, Mary Jane but I would've accepted that much better in comparison to whatever they're doing with the character currently.

it would have been an interesting twist on classic MJ, and in fact, it would have been a way to combine both Ultimate MJ and 616 MJ into one.

"Michelle" would have been a bit more like brainy Ultimate MJ, while model/actress MJ would have been closer to alpha female 616 MJ. MJ's true personality, of course, would be a happy medium of the two.

In fact, one reason why MJ decides to become "Michelle" is because she is actually smart ( smart enough to be accepted at that charter school and make it to the debate team ). But, due to her famous public image, she wants to be more than just a "pretty face." As MJ, it would be nigh impossible to do that. But as Michelle, she would be free from the shackles of celebrity.

Of course, the lesson she learns throughout the film, is that she doesn't have to be either or. She doesn't have to hide behind the facade of "Michelle." Mary Jane Watson can be both beautiful and famous AND someone who excels academically in science.

So, by the end of the film, her true personality comes out, and it's a combination of both playful extrovert 616 MJ and smart studious Ultimate MJ.

Plus, it would have also been a good way for Zendaya to showcase her acting range - playing essentially 2 different characters.

Also would like to see a scene like this:
c_the-amazing-spider-man-2-il-potere-di-electro_notizia-3-2.jpg

When Spidey pays him a visit after Peter finds out what he's been doing to her.

i'd forgotten about this sketch. this just makes me sad. this is the 3rd franchise where mj doesn't get what she deserves :(

No it's more "Why couldn't we get that instead" :csad:

ah, ok.

well, carry on then. :o

but I agree with you.

when you think of all the possible scenarios they could have come up with the character, and what they ended up going with, it does make you :csad:.

Yes but Steve found out her about her real name in CW the third movie, not right way.
So we could have the same situation here, where they drag the mystery around Michelle identity.

Yep. Of course they could reveal Michelle's identity in the sequel. And as for comparisons well
Just like Sharon in TWS. In HC Michelle is like a background character, also she has scenes with the main male lead, and while they reveal her first name? they don't reveal her last name. That was the comparisons I was seeing between Sharon&Michelle.

So apparently, Garcelle Beauvais has been confirmed to be a new MCU character by the name of Doris Toomes, meaning, It's all but known now that Adrian Toomes got married in the MCU. Wouldn't this confirm that the whole speculation that Michelle is actually Michelle Gonzales retconned to be Michelle Toomes for Homecoming is actually true?

According to reddit, she (Dorris) is 'Toomes' by marriage but her maiden name is Allan, making Adrian/Vulture Liz's Dad.

So what do you guys think wil happen with "Michelle" in the future?

She'll gain more confidence, become more outgoing and even take up modelling. From bookish frumpy nerd and social outcast to prom queen and cover girl. :o

BTW, whatever happens, Aunt May is going to end up hotter than MJ.

Marisa is ****ing gorgeous, especially being 52. But, Zendaya (even without makeup) is gorgeous. You let the character Michelle get a little makeup and fix her hair, then she turns into a bombshell, in my eyes. But women are beautiful and hot.

There are few things I want more in comics than Slott to **** off. Especially with the way he treats fans on twitter. But I think Insomniac would do well with the game. They can borrow ideas from people like Slott and still portray the classic characters in a respectful manner.

slott use to be pretty crappy to fans here on the hype as well.. he couldn't handle any criticism what so ever.

What's funny is I didn't realize this until a couple of weeks ago but apparently he's on my friends list here on the hype. This is must have been prior to him writing ASM (and prior to any trolling) cause I think a lot of people actually looking forward to him writing the book.

Not Mary Jane but MJ. The name Mary Jane has bitten the dust. We've all speculated upon it before anyway that Michelle would end up with a last name beginning with J and would say "call me MJ". That is not a spoiler. That is what we've said all along for months. What the J is for the last name is irrelevant, but just that it spells out those initials, as if that is actually more important than the actual name Mary Jane Watson.

Expect to get someone named JJJ whose initials stand for Jorge Juan Jalapeño, a shy and quiet illiterate boy that Peter teaches to read and write and gets him interested in playing the bugle. :o

leave it to marvel to crap on mary jane time after time :whatever: i guess Joe Quesada's mindset had a long lasting influence

This panel sums up why I don't like the idea of MJ eventually "becoming" MJ:

this sums up how badly i miss their marriage all over again...

ive always truly believed the Parker women are 2 of the strongest women in the marvel universe... and the lack of respect they get sometimes astounds me.

She's obviously suppose to be THIS universe's MJ, they wouldn't have given her that nickname if that wasn't the case. & the fact that we'll never get a proper MJ makes it worse that she's nothing like traditional MJ. They didn't have to give her those important initials that mean so much in terms of Spider-Man's world but they did. Fricking Flash Thompson is closer to the comics than the most important woman in Peter Parker's life.

debatable...

part of me thinks they're just toying with us.. and baiting us... i wouldn't honestly put it past marvel to exit Zendaya eventually and give us a real mary jane watson either... i mean.. there's been so much tease over mj as is... to even peter rescuing 3 red heads.. and the basket ball commercials

oh he definitely was writting Spidey at the time.. for at least about a year

I mean from whenever he got on my friend's list. He opened his account in 2004 and didn't starting writing ASM until 2008. No idea when I added him but it must have been prior to him writing the book.

If Watts is goofing around with the multiple MJ references he is giving Spidey fans way too much credit.

it seems like the 3 red heads rescue isn't in the final film either, or so I had heard.

and how did the basketball commercials tease MJ?

during the commercial series, there's one where parker walks into tony's party and says MJ! and the camera turns and it's Magic Johnson.
