Homecoming The Zendaya is possibly someone, maybe thread - Part 3

Any reason why they didn't go with the Miles story? They were clearly inspired by it.

As SkullDevil said, there'd be an uproar to use Miles over Peter first in the MCU.

It's also possible they went with more Miles over Peter material as a way of making their Peter seem a bit fresher and newer, while also having the best of both worlds since Marvel absolutely loves Miles Morales.

I don't know if this is good decision if you're someone who really values and is really protective of Peter Parker but we'll see come next year. I'm really excited (and a teeny-tiny bit nervous) either way.

Because Peter Parker IS Spider-Man.

They couldn't possibly face the backlash and fan rage if they introduced Miles and not Peter into the MCU lol.

Pretty much exact same. Super excited, with a little voice in the back of my head scared of the changes/alterations.

Overall, I'm much more hopeful than nervous though.

Plus the general audience would be confused at first.

"They made Peter Parker black what the f***?"

unfortunately, at this point, I say I'm more nervous/worried than excited.

and that's saying something because I was a huge Spidey fan growing up. He was my favorite hero back in my formative teen years ( he's #3 now ). And I remember how insanely excited I was for the first Raimi film.

Maybe it's because we've already had 5 Spidey films across 2 different series, with the prior series leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

but I was very optimistic when Marvel got their hands on Spidey and when Tom was cast. This being Marvel's Spidey alone should get me hyped and optimistic.

but frankly, after Tom's casting, pretty much every other decision save for Keaton as Vulture has left me worried or just plain scratching my head.

I'd rather they just make a Miles movie with Miles and his crew than take Peter's crew and change them all around like they seem to be doing.

Why are the general audience so dumb?

Because they don't have the interest in comics that we do. Their hobbies are cars, birdwatching, geography, hiking, gaming, coding, woodworking, or a number of other things that I'm ignorant about.

That's what it comes down to, not lack of intelligence, but lack of awareness. Just as I'm ignorant about all of those hobbies (sadly :csad:) they're ignorant about our hobby: superheroes/comics/comic book movies.

I see no reason to disparage them for that.

Why didn't the thread title go back to what it was or why didn't a mod simply name the thread Zendaya...

I didn't expect some of the pics to be so big.

Why are the general audience so dumb?

They aren't, people on the internet act like they are, and Hollywood pretends they are so they don't have to put in 100% of the work and ethic that should go into movies, but there are dumb people on both sides of the fence and nobody should cater to them.

Probably because there'd be a huge backlash if they never included Peter in the MCU.

Because a Marvel Studios plan for finally getting their hands on Spider-Man being "skip Peter Parker" makes no f***ing sense what-so-ever. Anyone who thought that was a possibility is delusional.

Good point, actually...

Yeah, I mean I get frustrated with them sometimes, too, but it's important to keep that in mind.

I'm no hiker, but I enjoy hiking.

Just like someone can be not a superhero fanatic/nerd (like us) but enjoy superhero movies (and still know the difference between a well-made and poorly made movie without recognizing deviations from the source material).

I'd rather they just make a Miles movie with Miles and his crew than take Peter's crew and change them all around like they seem to be doing.

In a perfect world, that would be what we'd have.

However, given two past Peter Parker series' that were pretty much by the numbers (with some notable changes in both), I guess they decided to mix and match to keep things new and inventive.

Reminds me of TPTB taking Jesus from The Walking Dead comics, putting him on the show and changing his last name from Monroe to Rovia. Is it unnecessary? Depends on how much you like Jesus, but I think it was done purposely in case they ever stray from the source which could be applied here.

Yes, they strayed from the source and are making more changes -- seemingly -- than the past films combined but if people just want Spider-Man to have a good movie again, they'll likely accept any and all changes -- especially the GA who don't care about this stuff as much as we do.

I've seen both arguments over the past few months and while I've agreed with both arguments, at this point it's just like whatever to me.

Marvel is banking on that, and they're probably right.

Same. I want a really good movie that feels like Spider-Man even if everything is not 616--or even Ultimate--accurate.

If Zendaya is MJ, she's too much of a dark and furtive character the way she's written. That's completely changing who MJ is. She would hardly be called bubbly, which is one of the main characteristics of the comic version.

But whoever Zendaya is, it still seems there's going to be a "She's all that" transformation from an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan, because why cast Zendaya, unless they're going for a Charlize Theron in Monster type of role.

This thread has been hijacked.. I came in here for the first time --and on the last page and from message 151-171 there's only two posts about Zendeya or her character...boooo

Um, okay.

We were back on topic though with Dark Raven's post.

Well, I think Zendaya's playing Kate Bishop with a little bit of Deborah Whitman : "Debra is just as smart, possibly smarter, than Peter and maintained a friendly rivalry with him." Which explains why Kate attends a science and Technology School and in the comics, she had a crush on Peter while Peter had a crush on someone else and didn't really noticed her
