Homecoming The Zendaya is possibly someone, maybe thread - Part 4

Well for what it's worth, Feige is supposedly a big fan of the character, unlike those malcontents who run the comics division.

Didn't Zack Snyder say he was a big fan of Superman and called him the crown jewel of the DCEU? Look at how that turned out. Plus.
But we love Spider-Man, and we love the notion of showcasing what Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, and later guys like Dan Slott and Brian Michael Bendis, brought to that youthful enthusiastic, not-angst-ridden guy — for the most part. He’s had tragedies in his past, but he’s excited to be in this world.

I think the only thing that pissed me off ( aside from the MJ thing) is the party scene where she makes fun of Pete and Ned for showing up, and when they point out that she's there, too, she responds "am I?"

Like.... *****, yes tf you are. Quit acting like you're above conformity while you still conform.

Oh, goodness....I think you are taking this way too seriously while also not paying close enough attention to what the writers were/are doing with Michelle. First of all, her "I can't believe you guys are at this lame party" line isn't really tantamount to making fun of Peter and Ned. Even it was, it's pretty mild compared to what Peter endures from Flash. Certainly nothing to clutch your pearls over. Anyhow, by the end of the movie, it's pretty clear that Michelle uses sarcasm and humor, not to suggest that she's above conformity but as a deflection, to hide her true feelings. We see this in the party scene with Peter and Ned and more clearly, in the final moment with Peter where she throws in a "just kidding, I don't care!" line but the look her face when he walks away tells another story. I see people interpreting that look as some clue that she knows Peter's secret identity. But nah...that's much more of a "I like you but I don't want to (or know how to) tell you" look. I mean, come on...

Essentially, I see Michelle as a character who *is* different from most of her peers but that doesn't prevent her from wanting to belong or having normal teen feelings or insecurities. And that's one of the things that makes her relatable, imo.

I'm not at all surprised by Feige's comments, be it recent or past.

The guy has no problem with criticizing the 'destiny' notion of Peter's origin from TASM series (which in itself is a fair point because that was unnecessary and takes away from the notion that the Spider bite could've happened to anyone who was in the wrong place at the wrong time) yet he also has no problem with allowing Peter to have a mentor and a high-tech Spidey suit, which undermines the core of the character in itself.

So to see him showing support to someone like Slott (who has also had a habit of making Peter clueless and reliant on others) is nothing new. Not to mention Feige's recent damage control comments regarding the whole 'MJ' fiasco.

So, there's a tiger reference? I really don't like this concept of MJ.

Lol, it was a joke man. Cheer up

Somebody was like, she's more of a bully than Flash, lol.

I think they might go with the idea that Mary Jane is her cousin. And reveal her as the 'real' MJ. As for Michelles character, they might be going for a Chloe Sullivan route. She was a completely new character for Smallville. But she was in on Clarks secret before Lana, Lex and Lois. She also was put into storylines which other characters couldn't be in due to comics restrictions. They had her date Jimmy Olsen and Oliver Queen. She was also Lois' cousin. And also helped the Justice League.

Perhaps Michelle could have interaction with Tony and the Avengers in future movies. They have the option to kill her/ keep her alive in ways which mean they have complete freedom of her character.

....Or she is Mary Jane.....

I think I like shes the MJs cousin idea better though.

OK, I'm officially worried now.

If they go any farther in the awful Dan Slott direction most people will tune out and tune out FAST. Spidey will just be a cameo / team guy in the MCU. Giving us anything Dan Slott and keeping this fake "MJ" mean most true fans will NOT buy tickets to any Spider-Man solo sequels.

I'm pretty sure he's just name-dropping. Not so certain a guy like Feige has the time to be keeping up with the comics.

Plus I think Slott&Quesada is involved in Disney XD Marvel's Spider-Man. As for Mary-Jane I'm not counting on her to appear and even if she did they'll probably just cut her out like they did in ASM2. And their excuse would probably be they decided there should only be one woman in Peter's life and that woman is Michelle.

Eh, I think that Slott has done more good than harm during his entire run. Yeah, during recent years he has... experimented. But that can be undone by the next writer. Slott has also written many very good Spider-Man stories, especially during his earlier years. And if nothing else, that man sure uses continuity as a tool.

So I saw Homecoming. So far MJ is just boring. Let's see what they do with her in the sequels.

I do like her how she's got political interests. It shows they're drawing feminist inspirations for her character after all.

I think there's a rumor going around that after Slott, Nick Spencer will take over the Amazing Spider-Man comics. And Spencer is the one who created Hydra Captain America and is over the Secret Empire storyline. So there's no telling what Spencer could do to Mary-Jane.

Forget about any cousin theory, it won't happen. Zendaya's character buried any chance to get Mary Jane on the big screen.

He also wrote Superior Foes of Spider-Man, which is one of my favorite Spidey related comics in years...so I wouldn't be too quick to judge him.

I understand why some are holding out hope but you don't hire one of the most popular young actresses in Hollywood, ensuring that she has chemistry with Tom, promoting her more than any other woman in the film, only to sideline or write her off after a movie or two. I think she's going to be a major player for at least the next two Spidey movies. If Mary Jane ever shows up, I really doubt it's going to be in a movie with this version of SM.

Pretty much this.

Regardless if she is MJ or not, she's being set up as the love interest for Peter in these movies.
