I noticed that as well, and it made me happy. I was trying to figure out how they did it after first viewing since it was one shot, and i thought fakepencil, hole in desk, cg pencil and then i saw the hand motion and I was like ZOMG!!!! Nothing beats K.I.S.S!Right before Gambol's guy hits the pencil, if you look REAL closely you can see the guy move the pencil out of the way (kinda out of frame) when the camera pans up from the pencil to Joker.
t: sorry for my bad english.
These questions should go in the ask a question thread
Why is Maroni allowed not only in the hospital, but mere steps away from Dent's room? No matter if he set it up or not, Maroni is implicated as having people in Gordon's unit, and these people being responsible for Dent & Rachel's capture, something Dent was well aware of way back in the beginning of the film. Regardless of his actual role in the kidnappings, this is still the biggest mob figure in Gotham, why in the hell would cops let Maroni just hang out around Dent's room?
I'm also wondering why Maroni tried to give up the Joker's location? He seems to really be distraught when he addresses Gordon in the hospital, but why? Harvey tried to put Sal in prison for life, why would he care if he was almost blown up, and conversely, why give up the Joker's whereabouts? He obviously was supposed to meet up with him and the Chechen to recover the money, so what's the deal?
Maroni had a broken foot/ankle, it makes sense for him to be in the hospital. As for being near Dents room? Whats so strange about that? Maroni hasn't been convicted of anything at this point and there is enough police around to keep an eye on him.
And Maroni is distraught, he knows what the Joker has done. Joker has usurped him, has taken over everything. And i also suspect that Maroni knew what was going to happen if he did meet Joker.
I don't know, Maroni wasn't convicted because he had alot of people on the take, not because of any presumed innocence. That would've been like letting John Gotti come visit one of the prosecutors of his numerous cases, hardly becoming of any respectful police department.
And while the Joker may very well have made him uneasy, which is apparent since their first meeting, he's also like all the other mob figures, all he cared about was money, why not try to recover it? He also allowed, presumably, the Joker to use his connects in Gordon's unit to capture Dent in the first place, they must have had some kind of relationship, no?
Good point about the hospital thing.
But no, I don't think Maroni allowed Joker to do anything. Joker just did it anyway. Joker hijacked the mob, thusly having access to Maroni's moles. And yea Maroni wanted his money, but what i'm trying to say is that Maroni knew (unlike poor Chechen) that Joker was just going to kill them both anyway. I think he knew that if he went to meet Joker, it would be the last thing he does.
t:I never got when Maroni told Gordon The Joker's location too. What point is it? Nobody finds him in the warehouse, nobody does anything about it.

They were going to get Joker there--but this was before the Joker changed his plans and made the blow-up-a-hospital threat (and the Mr Reese one too)

Agreed, now that I think about it, the Chechen was the only one who took the Joker serious in the beginning, so it only makes sense that he would be blind to his true intentions. Maroni does seem a bit smarter, and a lot more traditional, than the other gangsters. He had that honor and respect the Bank Manager was spouting off about, so I can see him setting the Joker up now. Ahhhhhh, it all comes togethert:

Yea the Chechen seemed like he respected Joker. (note the impressed look after the pencil trick). He was also the one who said to Maroni that they should hire the clown to solve real problem, Bathman.
I also thought it was funny when Chechen turned up where the money was. "Hey Joker man, what you do with all your money?" HAHA makes me chuckle.
I also think it's funny how the Joker took his dogs, and somehow, they listen to him. Guess he was right about animal loyaltyWhy is Maroni allowed not only in the hospital, but mere steps away from Dent's room?
