Thor: Ragnarok The Official News and Speculation Thread - Part 1

Heres what fans want from a Thor movie. Everything to involve Thor for once and no earthlings outside of the obvious Avenger appearance/cameo. I like Jane but everyone else hayes her and ships Thor and Sid. So why not juat give the fans what they want for a movie. An epic Asgardian adventure through the nine realms with lots of great action

Nope. Counts as two films.

I forget the details, but here are the broad strokes...

This is because, back in the day, a Hollywood studio paid the actors to shoot one film, but then split the film in two and released it in theaters as two movies to maximize their revenue. The actors, obviously, thought they deserved compensation for 2 films rather than being paid for just the one. And it turned into something of a big deal. Ever since, the standard Hollywood contract for actors, etc. has language guarding against this practice.

While this is possible, the math doesn't seem to work since a lot of the actors seem to have one film left (or Hemsworth has two counting Ragnarok).

This. The first film worked so well because it was an origin story, and being on earth with innocent people was part of the plot.

I'm guessing the contracts were re-negotiated at some point to include the extra film... assuming Evans and Hemsworth appear in both IW films, which would seem a pretty good bet. Something like Downey's appearance in Civil War, which, of course, wasn't part of his original contract. Both Evan and Hemsworth were initially signed to "3 solos + 3 team-ups" contracts. But, there was also buzz that almost all the "main" MCU cast members had re-negotiations after Avengers. So, appearing in the additional movie might have been included at that point.

One thing is certain though... a studio can't sign an actor for a movie and then turn around and say "Gotcha! We're splitting the movie in two!" :)

I know it's early but... Man I wish we were getting more news. More casting, something.

Actually now that I think about it... Shave the head, grow out the facial hair... Stallone even now would make a imposing Executioner. Paired with a spot on Amora casting? Dayum...

Yeah he would these days make a pretty good Skurge

Damn, now y'all got me excited for something that'll probably never happen, he'd be a great Skurge lol
:argh:

If he does cameo in GOTG tho, we better get some sort of Tango and Cash gag

You never know BG, he could be there! :more:

Was that Stallone bit verified?

I wasn't referring to the Stallone bit. But the news confirming Kurt Russell, Elizabeth Debicki, and Pom Klementieff as Mantis

Stallone is still only a rumor as far as I know.

Hemsworth's comments indicate to me that this is going to just be a comedy..

Before IM, TIH, Cap and Thor came out, i always thought that THOR had the most movie potential, and his franchise might be my least favorite. I don't think they've reached their full potential. It's the writing and uninspired directing. Hemsworth can be so much more.

I wish this series were more like LOTR

yeah well apparently CH is all about appearing in s**ty comedies these days #ThatsNotGhostbusters

:oldrazz:

Tbh, I liked Tony-Pepper and Cap-Carter so I guess it's not 'romance' I don't like, just 'crappy romance' :D
Cap-Carter is one I didn't like. I've actually liked Tony/Pepper and Thor/Jane so far. However I think it's time for him to get with Sif. I'm normally not an advocate of love stories but I think it could add a good element to the film if done well.

However I think it's time for him to get with Sif.

I disagree. I think the films have made it very clear that Thor is all about Jane romance wise (even though the get together was rather accelerated) to the point that for him to just up and leave her for Sif would be rather abrupt and out of character. Thor isn't even aware that Sif is in love with him, and if he is then he has shown absolutely no reciprocation in that he is wilfully ignoring it.

Even if Sif waited for Jane to die before revealing her feelings to Thor, someone like Loki would probably insinuate that she's taking advantage of Thor's grief which Sif would take as a great insult as her honour is being brought into question. Thor won't cope well with Jane's death as implied by his and Loki's conversation in the dark world and honour seems very important to the Asgardians.

True, the Thor Jane relationship has come too far for them to just up and forget it.

That headline could also have been written as "Jamie Alexander may be returning." She's just saying she doesn't know.

Joblo got the Hulk scoop and also said Sif has a big role in the movie. She's in but can't say anything.

you took the words right out of my mouth! Thor is an actual person (well norse mythology) and has a real history but has the least interesting solo movies. His movies could be really great...but I think they would need a very talented writer and director to jump on board to save this franchise.
