I didn't realize the production designer also worked on the Lord of the Rings films. Sweet.

Everything I hear about this movie makes me more excited. They've got an impressive cast and crew, and a lot of the story ideas we know of so far sound promising.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised that much. I've seen Weta in the credits on quite a few Marvel Studios films

I just hope it doesn't become a Contest of Champions movie. It's SUPPOSED to be the destruction and rebirth of Asgard

Weta have worked on a few Marvel productions, but this is Dan Hennah's first. The guy is a genius who won an Oscar for his production design on the LOTR trilogy so it makes me really excited to see what magic he'll work on Asgard and the other locales in this film.

Talking of people who worked on LOTR and The Hobbit, my absolute dream would be for Howard Shore to do the music for Ragnarok, the LOTR soundtrack is in my opinion the greatest (fantasy or otherwise) score of all time. I'll keep dreaming... :cwink:

According to twitter, Cate Blanchett is now in Australia. She's been spotted numerous times around the Sydney area so I guess she'll be next on set, if she's not already. I hope Ruffalo, Hemsworth or Waititi share a picture of her BTS with them because she doesn't have any social media accounts.

Big LotR/Hobbit fan here Fin, lol
Howard Shore would ROCK for the score

Everything I see about this movie makes me even more excited!

It has everything to be one of the highlights of the entire MCU!

Its sometimes easy to forget that they still build large scale physical sets, especially when so many can now be created digitally

True, I mean Odin is....Odin. The rage monster effect only goes so far, compared to the Odin Force. But nonetheless it'd still be a very epic visual fight.

For all the talking up of him, Odin hasn't really done much of anything in the films.

An update:

Karl Urban, who will play Skurge the Executioner in Thor: Ragnarok, recently discussed his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with IGN. The actor reassured that he’s shaving his head and bulking up for his Asgardian role, although the latter preparation may not be required. “The irony is that you won't actually see my body in this movie under the costume that I have,” he revealed, “but it's important for me to get into the zone and feel [the part].”

As IGN pointed out, Karl Urban posted an image on Twitter last week and it featured the Star Trek Beyond star at the Weta Workshop, which is the special effects and props company that worked on the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies, as well as the upcoming Justice League. And they are likely making Skurge’s weapon of choice: the enchanted axe.

In other Thor: Ragnarok news, Mark Ruffalo recently called into Australia’s 90.9 Sea FM's Galey and Charli radio show where he nonchalantly revealed a scene that he was filming that day opposite the God of Thunder himself and newbie Tessa Thompson. “I'm shooting a scene where I'm playing Hulk today with Chris Hemsworth,” he said. “And it's a moment where he's talking to Valkyrie asking her to join him.”

Waititi on the cast:

“Right from the start we wanted to diversify the cast, and it is hard when you are working with Vikings,” explained Taika Waititi. “You want to be more inclusive and provide a broader representation. And at that point, you have to look at the source material as a very loose inspiration. And then take it from there and go with your gut. Say, ‘You know what? None of that stuff matters. Just because the character was blonde and white in the comic book. That doesn’t matter. That’s not what Valkyrie is about.’ People forget that.”

“Die-hard fans will say, ‘That’s not really authentic to the comics,’ but as soon as they watch the movie, and they’re involved in the story, and actually what’s happening, everybody forgets. The fact that we even have to keep having this conversation is ridiculous, because we keep forgetting. Unless it’s the topic of the film, it just shouldn’t even be — what do we even care? I think the story is king, and you want the best person for the job. And Tessa tested against — we cast a very broad net, and Tess was the best person.”

Beyond Tessa Thompson, other big newcomers that Thor: Ragnarok will bring into the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe include Karl Urban, Jeff Goldblum, and Cate Blanchett. Taika Waititi went on to explain how he and Marvel managed to get them all on board.

“I think a lot of them having seen how good the other Marvel films are, they want to be part of that,” said the director. “Superhero movies are seen like really ridiculous, cartoony things anymore. There’s a time and a point where you really wouldn’t want to touch superhero movies, especially in the mid to late ’90s and definitely in the ’80s. There were a lot of very ridiculous and possibly career-ending move to make if you were an actor. But I think that the reputation of Marvel is very high. The things that they do is very high quality and they tell good stories. That’s the main thing. That’s why I got involved with them as well. At the heart of it they want to tell good stories, and that’s what I’m about as well. I’m not about explosions and the like. I like that stuff. I think it’s fun to do, but it’s not why I became a filmmaker. The thing I love is character and story.”

Knock this out of the park, Taika.
