if Strange made 700 million in November, I don't think it'll hurt Ragnarok
1 billion is easily obtainable, especially if JL is as terrible as everything else WB/DC is doing

Sorry but I think 1 billion is out of reach.

I think of the three MCU movies out this year Ragnarok will have by far the hardest time breaking a billion dollars.

Only because of JL. Even if it (JL) disappoints and does 750 -800 m, that's still huge business and it'll be going after the same audience as Ragnarok.

I highly Doubt Thor Ragnarok will make 1 billion.
As much as I would LOVE to see that, I doubt it'll happen because so many people didn't like Dark World.

If this were just a regular third Thor movie, I would agree that a billion is out of the question.
But, since we've seen some concept art and maybe a leaked plot, I only have one word for you: Hulk.

Maybe they should move Thor up
Maybe, but both Ragnarok and JL have box office floors of about 750 m. They will both do huge business so Thor will be fine. It works both ways too, if Ragnarok is great and has strong legs, it will put a dent in JL #'s. As DC gets going I'm sure we'll get more situations like this.

We have a Hulk. And a Taika....

If something like Strange can make 700mln than a Thor movie featuring Hulk can easily make a billion

If Thor gets great reviews and Justice League gets the usual DCEU reviews then it shouldn't have any problems. This year DC doesn't have the benefit of having its movies far away from any other competition.

More like "A Thor movie featuring Hulk [BLACKOUT]and Doctor Strange[/BLACKOUT]" :)

Well yeah so let's count in
Benedict's fangirls
to the audience that will see this :)

No, but seriously just the concept art of Hela is getting people hyped, if they make a good trailer a lot of people will definitely wanna see this

My thoughts exactly. It would just be wise in moving the date a week or so and creating a bigger gap between the 2 comic book movies. I have no doubt that Thor Ragnarok is gonna be awesome and off the charts but that still doesn't mean that it wouldn't be smart of Marvel to move the movie release by anticipating it.

It would not only not show "weakness" but it would show confidence in the success of the movie and above all intelligence by Marvel's part. It would be a win-win situation to everyone. Marvel and us the fans.

I'm just being cautious, not getting my hopes up.
I mean granted Dark World did better than IM3 if I'm not mistaken, and was in Theaters HERE until it's own dvd/bluray came out and it's an area that's not big on Thor.
I hope it does VERY well, but wouldn't be surprised if it has weak spots in it like DW did that people will be overly critical about

I still think that Thor Ragnarok is gonna have very good reviews and will most likely be maxing out around the 850M mark in terms of box office numbers. Toping that will be hard. Still, 850M would be very good... Thor The Dark World even being one of the weakest Marvel movies yet made 644M. Pretty much the same as the critically acclaimed Doctor Strange(673M) wich was a much more obscure character.

Thor has plenty of fans and the general public curiosity. Add to that a armored Hulk, a Hulk unleashed, that we have never seen before battling in a arena... Loki, the fan favorite... heavy hitters such as Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Cate Blanchett as Hela... plus Karl Urban, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill... and then to top it off with Surtur, Fenris Wolf...

If it has good reviews and is critically acclaimed, and Taika Watiti's already has a few under his belt. Then this movie is gonna crush even more. 850M would be an immense haul. It would surpass movies such as GOTG, TWS... and would become one of the most profitable movies of Marvel history. Top 6 to be more precise.

Yeah but you already know MY one complaint about Ragnarok being more like Gladiator than Ragnarok. What I fear is people having the same complaint and being overly critical.
I'm excited what they do with the two stories Ragnarok and Planet Hulk, but, I'm sure people will also complain it's not Planet Hulk.

The Dark World did much worse both critically and at the box office.

Rotten Tomatoes

Iron Man 3 = 79%
The Dark World = 66%

Box Office
Iron Man 3 = 1.214B
The Dark World = 644M

Thor The Dark World was just a weak movie. The direction was all over the place. Poorly done and directed. The humor was cheap and the multiple layers of it just became annoying. The rumor was that Marvel even had to pull the movie from the director hands and try to salvage what was possible.

I do understand your point. But the general public will not care for most of that. They just wanna watch the best movie possible. The forging of the storylines will not affect them at all because most of them don't even realize they are 2 different stories. Hardcore fans will probably have their preferences about one storyline or the other but it's a question of understanding the definition of "compromise". Hulk's presence will boost Thor into new heights. And the Thor franchise was in absolute need of some injection of "power" and freshness.

If the movie is good, then the storylines thing takes a definite back seat to the success of the movie. The general audience is what gonna make this movie go from a hit to a mega hit and they couldn't care less about the "drama of sortylines". As i said, they just wanna watch the best movie possible and if it is indeed good looking and well received they will be there to watch it and by that boosting the movie overall success.

But DW was still in theaters longer than IM3. The audiences HERE were mostly older people too. I was still guarding a theater and the people seeing the film were from their 50's through 70's. Not the younger crowd under 50.

I'll be back, going to finish watching the extras on the digital Doc Strange

Why does Thor need to ride a bicycle?
