Tim Burton for Harry Potter 7!?

Tim Burton is decent when he does his own stuff, but he is imo brutal when he does something that isn't his own (i.e. Batmans and Planet of the Apes)

I disagree. I really disliked Planet of the Apes and Mars Attack. But I loved his Batman movies as well as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Don't get me wrong, I do like the original more but when I look at Tim Burton's filmography, Chocolate Factory stands out as something special. For me, it was great seeing the master of dark fantasy take on a far more colorful and lighthearted film.

Planet of the Apes are garbage though, Mars Attack too IMO.

No keep Burton away from Harry, I have heard that Guillermero Del Toro wants to direct 7 and I'm all up for that after seeing Pan's Labrynth

Supposedly Burton didn't have any creative insight in this, they just had him as director

a bunch of penguins carrying a dead, bleading nyquil from the mouth villain into the water... that's not cheesy at all. :whatever:

An army of penguins with rockets carrying their fat blue bleeding leader into the water?

It's a beautiful scene. You guys just don't get it. But whatever I've spent the past 5 years defending the movie on this message board. I'm getting kinda tired of it. Just go to the misc. batman forums and read everything I've said about the movie.

Thats the difference between Del Toro and Burton. Del Toro can adapt other people's work without ego getting in the way.

Someone hasn't seen Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. :oldrazz:

It's sheer bad luck that we're meeting on a superhero message board where you've had to defend the movie before, but the film is just cheesy and pretty damn poor. I "get it" it just didn't work. What I DON'T get it is how some people can hold Returns in such high esteem and then turn around and tear apart B&R... when they suffer a lot of the same problems.

Anyway, Burton. I wish he had made Dinosaurs Attack! instead of Mars Attack!

I also have the stigma of not really digging much of anything the man does ether, his movies always for me seem like style over substance and overpraised, the one movie I do like from him I LOVE and that is Big Fish, outside of that he under-impresses me with every attempt, I would love for him to have nothing to do with this movie...and he won't so I don't really have to worry to much

did someone say Del Toro? I would be so down for that in a second I love Del Toro

No. If he does do it, Johnny Depp will have a role. Not dissing Depp, but he's in every freakin' Burton movie.

im a big fan of tim burton but i dont think his style would mesh well with harry potter , wed be getting a different harry potter thats for sure.

Depp couldn't be in it. Rowling has final casting approval in her contract with Warners and she refuses to allow American actors in the movie. Being as Depp was born in Kentucky, Rowling would not approve him. Besides, essentially all the actors will be cast by D.H.. There won't really be a new role for him to do.

Harry Potter would be an emo mess and Voldemort would be just weird. And Depp without Burton as Matt mentioned would cause the world to end.

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
Beetlejuice
Batman
Batman Returns
Mars Attacks
Planet of the Apes
Big Fish

All of those Burton films were done without Depp, and all of them (except POTA) were good.

come on man thats your opinion, you can't make a claim like all movies are good when clearly general reaction towards most is super mixed

I hate Beetlejuice, Batman is okay, BR is rough, Mars Attacks is fun, POTA is brutal, Big Fish is genius in my opinion

you hate beetlejuice?! thats my fave

big fish i hate

for me at least Tim Burton's style just completely from the onset turns me off to pretty much everything he does, which is why my favorite movie of his is the least Burtonesque movie stylistically in Big Fish, its just a great movie about a storyteller. Nothing at all though attracts me to his gothic artistry, I think most of the time it (especially in the case of like a eddy scissorhands) just masks an ugly church with a beautiful exterior.

um...okay?

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure is a favorite of many kids who grew up in the `80s.

Beetlejuice is a VERY POPULAR movie. The movie was one of the top 10 grossing movies of 1988. There was a successful cartoon series. There's a successful Beetlejuice show at Universal Studios. And Beetlejuice is STILL a very popular Halloween costume.

Batman & Batman Returns are only nitpicked by comic book fanboys. The general public has always enjoyed both installments.

Mars Attacks is mixed. I'll give you that.

Planet of the Apes was a piece of crap. I'll give you that as well.

Big Fish has gotten a positive response from everyone I know. And it was nominated for a Best Picture Golden Globe.

Thats cause Big Fish rules, and should have won best picture at the academy awards

but still the man said as a fact they where all good movies

I have never seen Pee-Wees Big adventure so I can't comment on that, but from where I stand very few Burton movies are good

Batman 1 is okay at best, Returns is just as rough as the other two sequels imo

Beetlejuice is a very popular movie indeed, but popularity doesn't always equate to good, I love the Pirates sequels and those are immensely popular does everyone agree they are good then? Hell no on these boards in particular they are some of the most blasted movies (by the loud minority that is, but still the people that don't like them hate them)

I think Beetle juice is probably one of the silliest movies ever I don't really care for anything that happens in it, and I am all for ridiculous off the wall stuff in movies, I actually prefer it, just nothing in that movie works for me

my point is not weather i think they are good or not, my point is it is far from a fact that they are good movies

I actually kind of like Mars Attacks too, that movie worked for me in a weird way

Thats not what I said. I just wanted to point out that most of those movies didn't get mixed reviews.

These days people like to associate Burton with the emo kids, but fact is that the man has been making popular movies since 1985.

Well I simply don't want him cause I don't think he makes all that good of movies. I think the Harry Potter franchise has a level of stability and consistency that no franchise can equate to, or even come close 5 excellent movies is something that no one can really say except for the Bond franchise and I can't think of 5 of those in a row that where good. Point is don't fix what ain't broke with this franchise, no need to throw a ****ing knuckle ball in when you have a no hitter going throwing fast balls and change ups. There is nothing any of the previous directors have shown to merit getting someone different for the grand finale, a movie that by all intents and purposes could be the next landmark movie.

I like the guy they have now, I actually like the guy who did 4 better, and Alfonso Cuaron is one of my rising favorite directors, I would like any of those 3. But if they go outside hire Guerrilmo Del Toro has hinted at interest and if he does it would behoove them not to get him. Del Toro is simply just the best director out there, he has an imagination that I don't think I have seen anyone come close to, he is just a brilliant brilliant man.

I don't want him either and I'm a fan! lol. Besides...Burton is gonna be busy with Alice in Wonderland which is more up his alley.

Now if he doesn't get to carried away that could be one crazy movie

but if he does I may think it sucks

see haha, I hate to bring this up I think Del Toro is more fit for AIW too, like I literally think Del Toro is Tim Burton but A) Good (lol my opinion) but B) He doesn't totally alienate a movie in favor of style (again imo)

I agree. I like Burton, but not for Harry Potter.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland should be something amazing.

I rather have guimerro del toro then tim burton

I'm not sure if Burton is really right for Potter.
