Tim Roth is Emil Blonsky/Abomination in The Incredible Hulk!

how the hell do you know?... you got a what if machine?

Its a slap in the face to the fans that have read the books for so long, the fans that love the villain as much as the hero, Abom is one of Marvels best IMO. He's like a bad version of the hero, like Venom. Yeah Stan didnt say why he had ears like that or scales but it wouldnt have taken more than 5 mins to explain them. The difference between comic book fans and the general public is that the GP havent heard of Abom, they havent seen him yet. Trust them like Stan trusted the comic book fans. I really dont see why the general public WONT like this

Yeah..that sure looks "goofy", "ridiculous", and "stupid"...doesnt it? (not :word: )

Quick question, the people saying the original design was stupid and couldn't work onscreen, are you regular hulk readers?

Again, this is very good work.

But now he just looks like Swamp Thing.

Outside of being green and deeply textured, I dont see it. Swamp Thing is made of plants, Abomination, if anyone in the DC Universe, looks like Killer Croc (or to be honest, Vice Versa).

I'll admit to knowing more of the Bill Bixby TV series than the comics but I've never stated the comic design wouldn't work. I just think they're thinking they'd have a hell of a time trying to explain how a man can look reptilian without having to introduce splicing animal DNA which was prominently featured in Ang Lee's movie causing people to think it's a sequel to that movie and not a stand alone franchise.

I don't think it matters if you introduce reptilian DNA into the syrum, aspects have already been taken from the last film into this one, the reptilian thing wouldn't impact it greatly, one line of 'It uses reptilian DNA for regenerative abilities' and that's it, done with, we'd have classic abomb.

I've actually already posted a reason for a reptilian Abomination that not only distances itself from Ang Lee's movie but also follows the rationale that brought us the design we have now.

I've been a Hulk fan for nearly five years. I don't have a problem with the original design as far as it being in the comics, animated series', & video games is concerned but I still like the redesign a lot more & I think it's much better. Just because a lot of people here like the redesign doesn't mean they aren't true Hulk fans.

And by your logic, the Hulk should have an exoskeleton which he uses as a weapon, fins along his back, and be completely bald.

We are seriously arguing in circles here. I don't think you have the capacity to consider another point of view, judging by your posts.

What you have to learn is that not everyone has to like the old design just because they are fans of the Hulk.

Putting workds in my mouth there, I didn't say anything about people not being true hulk fans but are you an Abomination fan? Say they decided to change hulk, give him blonde hair, make him blue, make him 20 foot tall, would you be happy about that? You may like the look but would you still consider him The hulk or just a hulk? See I'm a regualr reader and have grown to really like the abomb character, so them changing everything makes me think of the movie version as a abombination but not The Abombination.

I'm not saying you said anything, if I did I would've said "you" in that post. To answer your question, I am an Abomination fan, I like the design from the original comics but I still find this design to be better. As for the Hulk question, it wouldn't be the Hulk because he'd be blue with blonde hair. However, I think of the Abomination in this movie as THE Abomination and not a Abomination.

Well than that makes no sense, if you don't consider that version of hulk The Hulk how can you consider this The Abomination since he looks nothing at all like the comic version.

Dude, I like the redesign of the A-Bomb more than the original, you don't. There's nothing either of us can do about that as it's our respective opinions. There are going to be a lot of redesigns in this franchise that you may dislike while I like them & I'll still consider them to be the comic book character.

I do like the design but it isn't abomb, if they look nothing alike, having nothing in common, blonsky is totally different, heck
The movie version doesn't even talk, doesn't show us he's still got the mind of blonsky, just a raging monster
This isn't a matter of liking it or not, it's if it's the same character, which what we get in the movie isn't. Like I've said before I may love what we get in the movie, he might be a great villian but he still isn't the abomination.

I was hopping they'd go for that look.

Exactly!

No that looks awesome and like the vintage Abomination. They could have come up with some type of logic to make Abomination look like the original version or they could have just had him look like that without explaining it. I have never, on any of the boards, in the 8 years I've been surfing them, seen anyone question why abomination looks like an amphibian, until it was changed in the movie.

Posters who speak of 'realism' and always trying to 'scientifically' explain FANTASY, will find themselves running into a brick wall. What needs to be explained to movie goers is that the world that the characters in the movie are living in may resemble ours, but also differs in many extraordinary ways. IMO, that will be all the explanation needed. Even the comic book explanation could be used. Gamma Radiation transforms those fortunate or unfortunate enough to survive the rads into their deepest darkest and sometimes heroic i.e Samson, She-Hulk, Merged Hulk, aspects of themselves. Maybe Blonsky saw 'Creature from the Black Lagoon," as a youth and thought that was the coolest thing in the world, maybe he's a snake of a person so his look resembles a half human, half reptile. Who's to say where FANTASY should draw the line?

I want an explanation how Superman can fly or shoot heat vision and breathe cold breath? How does Spider-Man stick to wall in his spider suit? How come Batman's cape flow fluid then becomes stiff enough to allow him to glide? There's nothing like that in the real world?

Just venting.

Let's be REAL guys this is FANTASY!!! Anything's possible.

^Thats the biggest problem with this version of the character for me, he basically is so drastically different from the original character he is unrecognisable. The design is good in itself, and i liked it a lot more on screen than that toy picture we got, but i still see absolutely NO reason why the original design wouldnt have worked a lot better than this design.

I see your point and I respect your opinion but I still think differently.

It seems there are a fair few of us on this thread who are genuinely perplexed about LL's decision to re-design A-bomb due to his apparent inability to reconcile his traditional form from the comics.

Sure, we all know that some things simply won't translate well from comicbook to film but the Abominations look was certainly not one of those things imo.

Let's just hope we don't hear something like 'I couldnt think of a reason to justify the Leaders over-sized head', or 'I couldnt think of a reason why Doc Samson could possibly have have green hair' for the sequals.

Of course, I'm kidding with the above paragraph :cwink: but at the end of the day, it's always nice to see these characters ( when finally given the chance to be brought to life on the big screen) looking as close as possible to how you've seen them in print for 25+ years.

It's just palin fustrating when they're not.

Of course, I'm not going to use the 'In name only' tag just yet but.................

For me LL's reasoning for such a dramatic change is rather weak, as they could have done something closer without having it overtly reptillian or fish like at all (as with the manip). The distinctive bumps on the brow and the lips would have been a good enough nod. Why go with an 'I am Legend' style mutant face I do not know.

Not that I dislike the new design (seeing it in action it is effective), but when you know full damn well it wouldn't have taken much effort for them to get the thing a lot closer it is a bit annoying.

That being said though a bigger annoyance to me is that they have apparently made him a mindless mute monster as Abomination....Now that really smacks of not giving a sh#t at all about the source material as Blonsky keeping his own mind as the beast was a fundamental part of his own tragedy (one he only came to realise later).

But then again, from what I've heard the Hulk isn't much more evolved than his grunting live action precedents again either...

Why is it they don't think an audience can stomach these creatures talking?
