Uncanny Avengers

There hasn't been that many Red Skulls (outside an imposter or two). The last one that died in Cap Reborn was the original in a cloned body of Steve Rogers. It was still the same dude. The new body Zola made between Cap vol 1 300-332 was just a plot device that helped reset the counter on his 70yr old ass.

It's safe to assume Zola has a stockpile of these guys laying around. Makes perfect sense to me. We just haven't actually seen what happened...yet.

Well, the Red Skull who's been around for the majority of Marvel's comics died. I don't mind that Remender took the opportunity to reset the Skull to his original uber-Nazi concept. The Skull who died had gone through a lot of changes, to the point that he might not be easily recognizable to new readers if they're coming in from the movies. Sure, Remender could've just had the Skull return to his Nazi ideals, but that's essentially discarding years of characterization. Starting over with a whole new cloned Skull, freshly awoken from WWII, seems like the lesser of two evils for giving us an uber-Nazi Skull again.
It's funny that Quesada and Axel Alonso both called Xavier a relic, then Remender puts his brain into an even bigger relic.

That's kind of my main problem with Red Skull. Also I think Nazis have pretty much lost any and all relevance.

I wouldn't go as far as to say Nazi's aren't relevant.

It wasn't too long ago that the guy that sang the Monday Night Football theme got s**t-canned for calling the President "Hitler".

Eh, Nazis will always be relevant as irrational hate incarnate. So I think the Skull fits in perfectly as a villain to bridge the X-Men and Avengers' worlds.

Just finished the first couple of issues of this series. Have to say I'm not that impressed with the artwork. The storyline itself left me a bit uncomfortable, I cannot really explain why that is. And yet another Red Skull?!?

Why are they treading the same old ground with this character? Just leave him dead and be done with it. Stop the "oh look another red skull was in hibernation from WWII and woke up" approach. :whatever:

I think this is the boldest move with the Skull we've ever seen! Xavier's brain?? To desecrate the body of a beloved hero and use his brain in ways that Charles never would have??

Sorry....this is the craziest Red Skull ever.....and the most dangerous.

Just read issue 3. I don't think I like this book, that felt like a chore to get through.

To his credit, Remender also started slow on Secret Avengers..it took him a good 4 or 5 issues to get cooking

It's a mixed bag for me as well. Because of the delays we still haven't had the cast come together yet, so there's barely a team dynamic. Captain America, Wolverine, and Thor are pretty overexposed right now. And the last issue felt like Claremont wrote it.

But I like that it's actually addressing mutant/human relations, Red Skull is doing seriously messed up stuff, and the Apocalypse arc seems interesting.

Felt this book hasnt settled in quite yet and Remender was rushed into it. Still digging it and it does have alot of great ideas. Really looking forward to Apocalypse, Sunfire and Wasp coming in. Also to see how he brings in some of the ideas that didnt make in into UXF.

Cassaday derailed this thing straight from the start, plain and simple. They need to stop giving that guy work.

Yeah, that book had my full attention leading up to release. Now it just seems lost within all the other titles. Forgot about it a few times. Too bad, hopefully things pick up when Acuna's issue's start coming out.

Kang fans should be happy

Uncanny Avengers 8AU...who knows if it'll be on 8 by the time it's supposed to come out though. :-(

I'm not a big fan of every book tying into Age of Ultron. I liked the idea of this book existing outside of the other major happenings of the Marvel Universe, kinda like Astonishing X-Men did. I REALLY don't get why they are tying Avengers Assemble, which is supposed to be the "new reader friendly" book into it.

I get this impression this is like Age of Apocalypse, especially with Kang and the Apocalypse twins now involved. They threw in that element of time travel. I bet it'll kind of be like Infinite Gauntlet in how it just quietly ends and with things returning to normal, but I'm also betting like AoA they'll need to be some resolution to restore the timeline or whatever. I would also bet whatever resolution they come to involves intervention by Pym.

There are only 4 books tying into it and they're all doing it under the AU designation. I'm pretty sure this is still an alternate reality...which will probably tie into the omniverse killing thing the Illuminati are handling.

That's kind of what I'm thinking it ties into as well.

The art looks fine, it just takes forever for him to produce it. I think he's done with #5.

This is Cassaday's last issue. Coipel is doing #5, then Acuna takes over after that.

Will it actually come out this month is the question...

Coipel? :awesome:

Man, you'd think Wanda would be faring better against Thor. He's shrugging off everything she and Havok throw at him. Does me proud (aside from the fact that he's fighting them because he's the thrall of a Nazi at the moment).
