Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

I can't really remember what the puzzle situation was in 2, but 4 has several, but they're all very simple and basic.

thats reassuring. Im on Ch 11 of 3 and there already seems to be alot with several being more complicated than they need to be. Really kills the flow of the action

I normally get annoyed at the puzzles in these games, but I actually found myself enjoying the ones in UC4. Not too frustrating, yet still rather imaginative and clever, imo.

I saw that the dog's name was Vicky and recall that exchange between Nate and Sully but I did not connect the two! Brilliant! :funny:

Anyway, I just finished. Damn, easily the best entry yet.

Anyone who says video games are not art need only look at this game. For such an over-the-top action adventure, its shocking how well developed their characters are. I felt a genuine emotional bond to the characters during the epilogue and a genuine sense of nostalgia as Cassie looked through the journals, the magazine articles on the wall of the office, etc).

I mean the entire story and characterization are top notch. Its interesting that a game so lacking in realism (in terms of over the top action) has some of the most in-depth realistic characters I have ever seen in video games. Hell, Elena and Nate's relationship is more mature and realistic than anything I've seen in any form of media. When Elena arrives at Libertalia, she doesn't just forgive Nate...its clear that their marriage has issues that will go on past the game. There is no scene where she is just swept into his arms and forgives him. Instead, the two gradually come to terms with everything and decide to move past Nate's lie, as partners who love one another, knowing that when they get home they will still have to work through some things. Its shockingly realistic and it makes it all the sweeter when the player sees that they made it in the Epilogue.

I also like thatthere are no supernatural elements. I've always felt the supernatural stuff was a bit tacked on. It worked in the context of the games but was also one of the weaker elements, IMO. I like that this is just pure action-adventure with no sci-fi/fantasy twists. It makes the human nature of the story and how greed destroys a person, families, etc all the more poignant without monsters running at you.

What a game. I am sure I can say more but I would just be gushing. This is honestly the best game I've ever played. It is fun, immersive, beautiful, and emotionally engaging. Every time you think it peaks, it finds a way to go one step further. And the sword duel as the final boss fight....just damn.

All of this makes me sad that Naughty Dog is indicating that it is their last outing. Although the ending is perfect...absolutely perfect.

However, Naughty Dog certainly did leave the door open for more adventures, be it prequel [blackout](Nate's mother...Uncharted: Morgan's Fortune)[/blackout], sequel [blackout](older Nate and/or Cassie going on an adventure)[/blackout] or an in-between spinoff [blackout](Sam and Sully or the exploits of Nadine perhaps)[/blackout]. I suppose I am personally hoping for a sequel. Not immediately. But on the PS5, a few years down the road, I would really like to revisit these characters and have a [blackout]father/daughter[/blackout] adventure.

That said, I do not need one, because as I said, the ending is perfection. I am glad to see this series reach that point and end on the best game in the franchise, rather than see it go the Halo route and die a slow death of mediocrity.
Glad you seem to have enjoyed it as much as I did, Matt! And yes, this was truly a perfect ending, so based on that alone, there should probably not be any more. But it's just hard to ignore all the sequel/spin-off potential there, too. The adventures of [blackout]Sam & Sully[/blackout], the adventures of [blackout]Cassie Drake[/blackout] or some combination of the bunch that includes old favorites and brings out [blackout]Nate and/or Elena to come help and join the adventure in the final act[/blackout]...the possibilities are so enticing. I liked your prequel idea, too. This should definitely be it for this gen, imo, but I'm certainly not opposed to revisiting this world in the PS5 era or something.

There are 7 puzzles in Uncharted 4. There are 8 in Uncharted 3. Not sure about UC1 and UC2.

Seven? I can only think of

Turning disks with the bucket
Connect the dots/stars
Clock tower
Arrange the pirate sygils
Rotate the spheres

Which ones am I forgetting?

Agreed really enjoyed the puzzles in this game. As you said I think they were not very frustrating but imaginative etc. Plus the puzzles/trials and the boobytraps reminded me very much of Goonies (especially with the whole Pirate theme) which is always a good thing if you ask me :word:

There is the one where you have to walk across the floor and avoid the death traps
And I guess following the arrows on the island with Sam

I just beat UC3 which means I can finally start 4 this weekend.

Ah, forgot about the floor one. Very Last Crusade, haha.

I think calling the arrows one a puzzle is pushing it though.

I used to REALLY want an Uncharted movie. After this game though, I just don't think it would do the character justice. This was a perfect finish.

I didn't dislike any of the puzzles or anything, but they were so simple it's almost like they didn't even need to be there. I guess it helps the overall pacing, though, between platforming and gunfights.

Agreed, this game was amazing and ended the franchise perfectly. I don't think a film could live up to it.

some of the puzzles were a little troubling for me at first but that could've been because i was playing under the influence

Is it just me or do the graphics look slightly different in multiplayer?

Multiplayer graphics look a little glossier. Does anyone else notice that? Does multiplayer have a higher framerate than single player?

EDIT:

OK, if this is accurate, Uncharted 4 multiplayer is 60FPS. Single-player is 30 FPS.

Finally finished Uncharted 4 (I took my sweet time and made sure to savor it). We can all agree the game is a genuine masterpiece, right?

On another note, there is a fairly significant difficulty spike on crushing difficulty after Chapter 17. The worst part so far was when Nate and Elena are on the elevator and Shoreline goons are firing from every side, from below, and from above. Its in-****ing-infuriating. One of the added difficulties of Crushing mode is that enemies drop barely any ammo so during the battle I kept running out of ammo and had to jump from cover grab a gun and get back to cover all while being shot at by at least 5 bad guys brandishing sniper rifles, grenade launchers, pistols, and automatic rifles. Oh and they are all tossing ****ing grenades onto the elevator. After about the 20th try I managed to scrape by.

I do like all the options and boosters they give you for campaign after you beat it. Like you can just go back and play through certain combat segments if you want.

Or you can try it with all those visual or sound modifications. Like you can change the color presentation or change the audio format. You can make the game look cel-shaded, black and white, or more vibrant.

It's sort of like they gave you a pack of mods to play with.

The only thing I really miss is Co-op Adventure and Co-op Arena.

Yes and the res is lower in mp too. It's 900p.

The whole game might be 1080p 60fps when Ps4K comes out.

So the multiplayer has a higher frame rate but a lower resolution than the single player? Just seems counter-intuitive to me but oh well.

Why? The lower resolution is worth the sacrifice in my opinion to get a faster-pace smoother looking screen with the higher framerate.

It's sad that the remaster of TLOU and The Nathan Drake Collection are 60fps, but Uncharted 4 isn't.

it is sad. they targeted 60fps but they literally said it it was really fxcking hard. so they had to give it up.

Well maybe the PS4 Neo will be able to run it at 60fps.

I want the full power my system and console allows. I want the highest, sharpest resolution possible.
