I've read amazing 300. and I remember the days where venom used to be bound to his symbiote or he would die. (which was a plot element in his second appearance. in the 90's series)
can someone PLEASE explain to me why he's removing the symbiote like a hat these days?
These days, Eddie doesn't even have the symbiote for you to complain about him removing it like a hat. Wish he did, though, then you and I could complain together, with me happy he's back in any case.
In the first Venom mini-series (Lethal Protector) he was forcibly separated from the symbiote and both he and the symbiote appeared to die.
Then they both woke up a while later, no worse for wear. Turns out that Spidey was wrong when he thought they were permanently joined and now they can bond and de-bond as much as they want.
And this was written by David Micheline (Venom's creator) so it's not really a retcon.
Lethal Protector 4-5 had Eddie & the symbiote forcefully separated, and only Eddie appeared to die. It's later revealed that the separation only rendered him unconcsious. This wasn't even the 1st time the two were separated.
He is absolutely right, though, about David Michelinie 1st confirming that Eddie & the symbiote can't be separated, then deconfirming it later.
From what I recall it was because the bond between the symbiote and Eddie had grown so intimate that he couldn't survive too long without it. I don't remember Eddie ever removing the symbiote physically like you said, it was with him most of the time. The only time he removed it was when he auctioned it off and you saw what it did to him. Maybe you could be more specific as to what you mean.
Nope, Eddie and the symbiote have been separated many times before, and sometimes he did remove it willingly. Planet of the Symbiotes had him reject the symbiote of his own free will. Sinner Takes All & Along Came A Spider had him relinquish the symbiote to his ex-wife (resulting in...ergh...She-Venom both times; twice in Sinner and once in ACAS).
As far as the symbiote willingly leaving Brock of its free will, Brock ridding the symbiote of his free will, the symbiote appearing to die, or the two being forced to separate, there's too many instances to mention. The 3rd ASM Venom story (where the villain Styx "kills" the Venom symbiote) is the 1st time the two are ever 'separated', Lethal Protector, the "Spider-Man" and "Web of Spider-Man" 4-parter called "The Exile Returns" (where the Scarlet Spider fights & defeats Venom, and separates the two) which lead directly into Separation Anxiety (where Brock & the symbiote are still separated), Sinner Takes All, Planet of the Symbiotes, Along Came A Spider, The Hunger (the 1st arc by that name), the Venom Finale limited Series, the Spider-Man issue where the alien/human hybrid Senator Ward separates the symbiote & Brock, The Hunger (the 2nd arc), and Marvel Knights Spider-Man...are the ones that come to mind.
Carnage is the one who needs the symbiote to live, since it merged with his bloodstream and is now the only thing producing stuff his body needs to live. Venom can be broken up and still be a-okay.
Then they retconned it later so that Eddie had cancer all along and the symbiote was keeping him alive (funny how doctors analyzing Brock when he was defeated and caught never found the cancer) so now he's nearly dead without it.
There's speculation that the symbiote still has a mindlink to Eddie to talk to him while it's joined to Scorpion, but it could also just be Brock hallucinating.
The cancer was retconned a wee bit. At 1st it was established that Brock had cancer awhile before he ever became Venom. That was tweaked, so now Marvel says Eddie developed full-fledge cancer at some point while being Venom.
There were plenty of times before that where its been forcibly taken from him. I just wondered why he didn't die. Anwar answered my question though. I haven't read the Venom miniseries. and now that I think about it...it should have been explained in spidey's books. but its no big deal really....
Inconsistant writing befalls all symbiote-based characters. Carnage himself is one giant plothole in his own continuity.
LOL. yeah interesting plot element. but they ignored continuity yet again.
about Carnage...I know about the bloodstream bonding. but didn't silver surfer remove his symbiote? I know there was a long period where he was symbioteless. one issue during mackie's run had him paint himself red. escape prison and get caught easily by spidey. lol.
My point exactly about Carnage's inconsistancy. Silver Surfer trapped Carnage for eternity inside a cosmic shell, and later, we see Carnage alive & well in prison. And then Venom rips the symbiote from him and eats it...and Cletus is living find without it, as if the loss of the symbiote has no effect on him, when it had been established that Kasady cannot be separated from the symbiote without dying. Even more confusing is when he finds an exact, unrelated duplicate in another dimension and bonds with it, eventually giving birth to Toxin...oy.
Oh, I see. I do remember the part where Spidey tricked symbiote into leaving Brock when Spidey offered himself, Eddie passed out after that.
I'll get to that in a bit...
OH YEAH! I remember that issue...

t:
but I don't recall them actually separating. the earliest separation I can recall is during the howard mackie run with that weird senator dude. I never did really understand that plot...
Yes, they actually didn't fully separate, which is why Eddie passed out, because when the symbiote tried to leave Brock for Spidey, it could not separate from his body, and struggling to try knocked itself, Brock, and even Spider-Man (since some of it had reached Peter) out, with the symbiote & Brock taking the full experience of the shock to their systems.
I go away for a few hours and had a lot of catching up to do.
