Venom Venom's Box Office Thread

Not sure. They have plenty of other films to make and marvel are doing a good job with spidey which sony get the profits from.
In a few years they might want their own avengers type film but if wb has shown us anything, it is not to rush it. Establish the characters first then do a big crossover.
I'm pretty sure they are desperate to do a Sinister 6 film. Just hope they are patient enough to set it up properly.

Well, the Sinister Six problem is interesting. When is the right time to bring the team together? Making 6 Spider-Man movies introducing the characters with the hope that eventually the same version of Spider-Man will get to battle them seems like a tall order. Then you look at Homecoming, which had Vulture, Shocker, Tinkerer, and potentially introduced Scorpion, all in one movie.

I wonder if Sony will try to make an anti-hero version of the Sinister Six, led by Venom? Maybe they will develop their own universe without Spider-Man.

You'd have Venom, Morbius, Kraven, Black Cat...Not sure which other character has a movie in development over there at the moment :hehe:

Avi Arad was right all along....:o:oldrazz:
It's hilarious but true. I mean from a business pov they made the right move.

I wonder if they regret giving the control of spiderman to Marvel. They could have done a 3rd Garfield movie with the black suit and it might have made even more money.

But nobody wants that except a small handful.
Well, it was also said that nobody wanted a Venom movie without spider-man and look what happened..

What would bringing back Spider-man do though? They've established Venom was never really a villain so it's not like it would make sense for him to fight Spider-man now.
I believe there are plenty of ways to make them fight if they wanted to, they mentioned Eddie being fired from the Daily Globe in New York, maybe Spiderman was involved in that like in the comics. Aldo Eddie is not a villain in the movie but he's still a lethal protector, meaning he kills people, and even if they are bad ppl im sure Spider-man is not gonna be fine with that and migh try to stop it.
Personally, if Sony is gonna bring spiderman into their Sonyverse i rather they team-up against a common threat like Carnage instead of fighting each other.

Yea that’s a bit different. Venom is a popular character and Sony almost destroyed the brand sooooo yea. Venom was gonna make bank anyway sooooo. Also I’m
Sure half the GA thinks this is in the mcu cause spidey is

I doubt it. His series wasn’t all that well liked. People have been waiting for venom for awhile

Luckily, it's less about what fans want and, again, what the studio is well within their right to do. Fans and regular moviegoers alike may gripe and groan on message boards if Sony suddenly decides to take Spider-Man out of the MCU, but that's ultimately their call to make.

A stupid call but hey

Aw c'mon dont act like you always knew Venom was gonna make money 'cause he's popular, 'cause i just opened this thread and in the first page you were saying it was gonna make around 200millions, and that would've been a huge flop.

Yea I don’t see this crossing 500 at all. 200 is more realistic .

I was wrong then.... so? But when it made money I realized venom is just to popular to just flop . He was the reason for spidey 3 hype after all

Yeah, SM3 hype had nothing to do with the previous two classic movies, it was all about That 70's Venom...Come on son :hehe:

Please . Were u here during the speculation and the venom theories? Venom was the most hyped up part of that movie and if you don’t think so your kidding yourself. Come on son.

there's clearly "a disconnect between critics and fans"...I mean general audiences, cuz that's too good of a score on these various sites to be so bad of a movie

I mean, the critics weren't wrong.

Its just the positives (Eddie and Venom) were much stronger to the audiences than to the critics.

SONY makes loads of Box office money from Venom....The Same SONY makes loads of Box office money from Spiderman, still..Its win-win for them..

Very happy for the movie, that is astonishing and I think will make for some interesting analysis on the discrepency between what critics want vs fans vs general audiences.

Still, you cant help but wonder, like with Suicide Squad, had the movie been stronger in terms of script and plot and was better received overall, what kind of crazy numbers it might have done if this critically panned version is able to make 800 million. Could a much better reviewed Venom have made a billion or are the reviews irrelevant to its BO success?

I don't think there are many people who watched it who would have decided to not watch it if this had been a critical smash too, with an amazing script/plot etc. But there are others who gave it a miss who would have come on board. I don't think it's a case of those things being irrelevant, more that the film has done fine without them and could have made significantly more.

Funny because people on here were arguing the complete opposite before Venom came out.

Apparently before the release Venom stood no chance without spider-man. audiences didn't care about Venom without spider-man... anyone remembers this? remember how sure people were of this?

Another thing that wasn't being said around the time Venom was announced. it was said to be something that wouldn't work and people were just waiting for it to fail.

I think you can get a hundred complain out of a thousand and you forget that they ain't actually the minority. they are just the loudest.

Ok? And they were wrong and so was I . Like I said before venom is very popular and I underestimated how popular the character was even with me being a huge fan.
