Venom Venom's Box Office Thread

Funny because people on here were arguing the complete opposite before Venom came out.

Apparently before the release Venom stood no chance without spider-man. audiences didn't care about Venom without spider-man... anyone remembers this? remember how sure people were of this?

For a lot of fans it wasn't so much that Spider-Man needed to be in the film as much as he was needed to set up the iconography that makes the character so popular. The giant white spider and spider powers are a pretty big deal aside from the backstory.

I hope this film does 800 m plus, but now I do have to wonder if a Spidey connection would have made this thing a billion + film. I think it could have even with the critical pans, but whatever, I'm happy that Venom is beasting at the box office. Feige has been put on notice and he can't ignore it's success.

I may have wanted the film to be Rated R, but I can’t deny the success so far!

SONY makes loads of Box office money from Venom....The Same SONY makes loads of Box office money from Spiderman, still..Its win-win for them..
Yes, they're making money with both Spider-man and Venom... but what if they want more? What if they want to make a Spider-man vs Venom, or a Maximum Carnage, or a Sinister six.. none of that is possible with Spider-man in the MCU.

I don't know, even though i liked Venom and its a big success i still dont trust Sony to not screw this up, but i cant deny the fact that i rather see spiderman with Venom against Carnage and company instead of him being Tony Stark's sidekick in the Avengers.

I fully expect Sony to allow Marvel to use Holland's Spider-man, but will retain the option to have their own version in their spin off films.

I dont think Sony has any intention of creating another version of Spidey... There's a reason why Holland contract with Sony is for 6 films but Sony's deal with Disney is only 5.
My wish is they share Spiderman, Marvel would still handle his solo films and avengers apprearences but he'd be allowed to appear in Sony's movies.... Not sure if something like that could work though. Another spiderman would be too confusing imo.

Just have Holland in both. Multiple Spider-Men would definitely be too confusing for the GA.

I really don't think a different Spider-man who is a side character would be all that confusing.

Not to anyone who talks about CBMs on the internet or who has friends in the know, sure. Anyone not fitting that description that I talk to about Venom just talks about it as the latest Marvel film. There was a conversation I overheard at work (when I was busy) about Venom being the first Marvel film to get bad reviews (but they were going to see it anyway). I’ve explained how Sony and Fox make/made separate Marvel films to these people before but the message never seems to get through as CBMs are just a bit of fun to them and not something they independently would ever think of researching or googling. I imagine this is how it would be for many Hype guys and certain sports too. When you have a passing interest in something rather than an obsession, it’s easy to get confused by or miss details that are obvious to those who are more into it.

Not to mention its just gonna be plain weird for the actors involved. Hollywood likes to immortalize actors when they take on a big role until they retire from it or pass the mantle. Right now Tom Holland IS Spiderman just like RDJ IS Ironman or Chris Evana IS Captain America or Gal Gadot IS Wonder Woman. Having another competing actor play the character at the same time is uncharted territory and I think would...just be plain awkward wouldn't it?

Avi Arad was right all along....:o:oldrazz:
Avi Arad wasn't "right all along". He's just a Venom fanboy. Everyone already knows Venom has huge blockbuster potential when done right. Besides, i'm still not forgiving him for destroying Spider-Man 3.

I wouldn't be surprised, the weekend in China makes 200 m very doable there with the strong WOM.

I guess Mark Hughes is too distracted by politics to write a follow up article on his Venom review. He wasn't high on the films prospects.

I wouldn't be surprised, the weekend in China makes 200 m very doable there with the strong WOM.

The 1st Monday & the 2nd Saturday are the crucial dates which will make or break Venom's chances of getting to 200m in CBO. Venom has a solid chance at 200m+ if it can manage a very good drop on Monday and 200m+ will be locked if it manages to retain & regain TCs (screens/showtimes) on 2nd Saturday after losing them on Friday due to new openers (FB2).

China Box Office: General Discussion Thread

Venom has crossed the 100m USD mark as of right now. OW will fall in the 105-110 range as expected

Vm will be close to 220m today minus a standard 27%. Very close to $110m OW at Y6.96 to $1

Looks like extra WoM demand has been quenched by all the shows after a nice bump yesterday

-65% expected tomorrow.

Tuesday is the key hold. -20% means demand burn occurring bigly and 2x OW will be unlikely, but $200m should still happen.

-15% will beget 2x OW, $220m+ Total

WOM quenched? no...This is China's big shopping day like Black Friday on steroids. Makes perfect sense ticket sales will fall without reflecting on WOM as Gavin said.

Alibaba Singles' Day smashes $25 billion sales record

Well, black friday boosts ticket sales in the US. If you are correct we should see a -55% hold tomorrow

(figures in USD)

108.5 ow * 1.85x = 200-201 total would be great. With 214-215 Dom, that would leave OS-China to get 385 for 800 WW. I think it's safely headed for 380 OS-China while 385 is possible. 205+ from China would lock 800 WW imo.

Venom could potentially break a billion dollars? What a time to be alive!

It could potentially beat out Deadpool's box office.

Yea that’s a bit different. Venom is a popular character and Sony almost destroyed the brand sooooo yea. Venom was gonna make bank anyway sooooo. Also I’m
Sure half the GA thinks this is in the mcu cause spidey is
Maybe I'm misreading this statement, but I don't fully understand what you're saying here.

If Sony almost destroyed Venom in ASM3, how would anyone know it was going to make bank in a solo film with no Spiderman?

Sony almost destroyed the Spider-Man brand with mediocre movies like asm 1 and the horrible 2

I doubt it. His series wasn’t all that well liked. People have been waiting for venom for awhile
His series had enough fandom to turn the tide. Fans are quite forgiving. No one abandoned Wolverine after Origins. And Even Deadpool was rehabilitated. Star Was prequels didn't lose SW fans. So on and so fourth.

Wolverine wasn’t prematurely rebooted. The fan base was split. Everyone wanted Tobey back and wanted marvel to take over. I remember the comment section for asm movies had so much trolling.
