im actually fine with miller putting ****es in everything and hyper-sexualizing women. he's coming from the school of hard boiled dirty noir, and these things were staples of such story telling. but now a days, he cant even do those things well. he's become a weak parody of his former self.

But not every character benefits from that type of storytelling ex. The Spirit film and ASBaR.

WHat have you read?

Year One? Turned Catwoman into a prostitute.

DKR? Women with swastikas on their breasts? Not only sexist but immature as well.

Miller is all about shock value.

He has a prostitute in every story or gratuitous sex and violence.

His first arc on Daredevil and BOrn Again were good. As was Year One, except for the Catwoman as prostitute. After they he starts repeating himself.

I didn't see any of that as sexist..

Prostitutes are nothing new to the world of crime fiction.

And the entire world was a dystopia in DKR, immorality abounds everywhere in that world.. intentionally.

Remember he had Batman slapping Robin and telling him to eat rats if he wanted food lol. Badass!

All-Star Superman or All-Star Batman and Robin?

I ask b/c this thread has dereailed into Frank Miller bashing and he' s doing ASBaR. I think most everyone agrees that Morrison ASS was a great series.

LOL, I never noticed that ASS is the acronym for All-Star Superman. You'd think they would have steered clear of that title for that very reason.

It be cool if he made a golden age Superman film were you know Superman how he was in golden age. That be greatness. Have it be in a 1940s setting. Superman being a tough badass.

Yeah, it might be cool to see a Superman period piece but I doubt that it would ever happen. Comic book adaptations set in the past (The Shadow, The Phantom, Dick Tracy) haven't performed as well as the studios hoped that they would. I'm not sure that it specifically relates to the time period, but there's a good chance.

For whatever reason, a lot of films set in the 30's and 40's haven't appealed to mainstream audiences. A recent example would be Public Enemies, which is struggling despite having Johnny Depp in the lead role.

Why not period peace movies can be cool. And Pe struggle maybe cause of the plot nothing to do with it being set in 30s and 40s.

My question is what's up with the lighting in that film? It looks darker (the shadows) than "Superman Returns". At least during the ads.

Angeloz

:hehe: You people need to lighten up man. Hollywood use to be great man. Why? Cause fans enjoyed movies. Did not complain alot. so Spirit was bad not every movie gonna be good. Give him another chance. So what if he has help everyone needs help. Nolan had help. He could make an awesome Superman flick.

He did get his chance with The Spirit, and he blew it. If he gets another chance it should be with a much smaller superhero than Superman. A hero with such a small fanbase and low expectations that he won't be attacked by angry mobs if he screws up again.

I havent saw it either...is it that bad?

Yes. :hehe:

What is your avatar? Is that Johnny Deep or ELijah Wood? Wasn't they suppose to play Mad Hatter in Batman Triumpt?

haha....I thought the same thing after I saw the pic of Depp as the Mad Hatter. LOL

He looks like a demented looking Elijah Wood! :word:

Yes. :hehe:
Then i'll keep that 2 dollars....:oldrazz:

I was thinking that WB could say scr** you to the families and start over

WB owns everything except the names Superman, LL, CK and Smallville. WB owns Last Son of Krytpon, Man of Steel and could segway these into a revamped character. Keeping the S insignia, Krytpon, the villains.

Brainiac could do some mind-meld thing that erases the memory of Superman from eveyone on earth and erases Clark's memory of who he is. WB could start over and make some changes that are maybe overdue while continuing the character under a "new" name Man of Steel. Clark with a different name - how about Kal - could hire onto the Daily Planet as their chief blogger in residence. I think there would be lots of possibilities.

Or...No

True. It was just a thought.

WB seems to have the upper hand. It is why I doin't get that the families are pushing so hard. Maybe it is a plan to wait till the last minute in 2013 and settle. Who knows.

Without WB playing it seems the Siegals rights are not worth much. Because WB retains foreign rights I don't see how any studio would act on the Siegals rights given that alone.

It may be all a game of chicken but WB can sit this out for a lot longer than the family. WB has more options than the family.

That to me is like Madden taking over NFL games. Do you want to play Madden with the official teams, or go to another football game that has limited licensing power? I mean, the game might even be better but you just can't shake losing the official name of teams, stadiums, etc...

no way

ok so you are trolling?

No he can do a good job with Superman. His futuristic Gotham works good for Metropolis. Also his light tone approah works for Superman too minus the nipples and but shots. But hey he learned from his mistakes and said sorry unlike Miller.

The name counts but WB keeps the foreign rights to the name so another studio has to buy those from WB. I'm just saying WB is likely to play hard and not sell the rights. End of deal. The possibility of legal action against a studio by WB if the film violates any WB's rights is there also. It seems like it is a legal nightmare for other studios to even try to do a film.

Oh well Miller not a right fit. But what about Schumaker?

Assuming you're being serious...

I don't want a campy, neon Metropolis, and WB isn't about to hand a massive franchise over to a guy who nearly killed their other massive franchise.

WB mostly nearly killed the Bat franchise. Batman Forever was pretty good. B&R was decent for what it was based off of which was the 50/60s Batman.

Besides it would not be a campy Superman film it be light hearted like how a Superman film is. Also Metropolis look futuristic whats wrong with that? Besides he said he was sorry and learned from his mistakes.

Sometimes "I'm sorry" just isn't good enough. This is one of those times.
