What are your complaints? What would you do differently? *SPOILERS*

You do realize it's common sensical...? Do we really need to be spoonfed that Flight is one of his Yellow Sun Powers?

Not necessarily but a clever line or even some kind of indication that Clark was half way there to figuring it out would have been cool.
I mean, we never even saw him speed run or jump before he put the suit on. It was just like, "Ok, I think I'll put on this Krptonian underwear and do some jumping. Heck I just got fired again so I've nothing to do but destroy mountain tops."
I mean look at the build up to Bruce just jumping from a ledge in TDKR.

Its funny, but i thought they would use the Tornedo as a tool for first flight, like they did with Welling in the CB Smallville. How did Clark know that Pa Kent wasn't just showing him a splinter in the palm of his hand and Clark mistook that for "don't rescue me"?

Oh and the advertising got a little too crazy. I mean, I'd prefer them fighting in an IHop than some stupid made up restaurant, so it's more real, but it got a little to crazy. Nothing as bad as the blatant Fios ad at the end of IM3.

What would I have done different? In retrospect? Not hire David Goyer. Not hire Zach Snyder. Clearly they were not up to the task. Goyer was all ideas and no story and Zach was all show and no feel. All in all I feel the trailers told the story better than the actual film did, and I feel robbed for it. It was just a poorly made film all around so I'm not sure what one thing could have been changed to make it better. You'd have to tear everything down and build from scratch.

exactly how i feel! the trailer did it better

I didn't recognize any Superman theme from Zimmer, nor did I feel his music really drove the movie like it did for the Batman movies.

The only thing that really bothered me from a story point of view was the seemingly passive way Jonathan Kent talked to his son. I've always felt that Pa Kent was a real role model to his foster son, and his telling Clark that "maybe" he shouldn't have saved the kids on the bus just didn't sit right with me. Nor did his death. But I've got friends telling me why it works and that Jon is just trying to protect his son, so maybe I'll feel differently on a second viewing.

Better writer, more character development, better camerawork.

Bingo on the camera work. I hate the shaky cam, and this is no different.

I went into this thing with low expectations, and except for some good performances from Costner, Crowe, Adams, and surprisingly for me, Meloni, I walked out of this movie very disappointed. In fact, I felt like I really didn't watch a superman movie at all, but just some action movie using superman names.

The editing was crappy. And I can't believe I am saying this, but the critics are right, in that there is too much action. It was getting ridiculous near the end with Clark/Zod fight at the end. And another thing, I was going in expecting to like Shannon, and I thought he was dreadful. I definitely think this role could have been better casted.

MOS is the best Superman movie for me and I love it. It's not perfect so I would take 15-20 mins of the action to more character build up. Although the flashback work fine for me in this movie I would had prefer it in chronological order.

For the sequel I want them to shoot the film regular and not handheld style. It was fine in MOS but I prefer it regular.

Absolutely no reason for Lois to throw in the vulgarity "D!cks" when talking with Col Hardy.....I had my kids there

These are my main issues with the story.

*SPOILERS following, obviously*

So, first off, the one thing that bugged me was Jor-El's rationalization for not building a ship for his family and flying off to Earth with his son. As it was presented on the film, it seemed Jor-El purposefully decided to stay on Krypton because no one of that generation deserved to survive....to which I was just going

...Really? I mean, really? I get that Jor-El is a dude who stands by his principles, but I just didn't buy that. I wouldn't buy that a father wouldn't accompany his son if he had the chance. It was also annoying because it could have easily been fixed. Say that after Krypon abandoned space travel they hadn't built ships in years, Jor-El didn't have time to build one to hold himself and his wife, or that maybe he did build a ship for his family, but Zod's attack interrupts it and they only have time to get Kal off. Something like that.

Now, I know this is kind of one of those basic nitpicks of the mythology. If this guy had the tech to build a space ship for his infant son, why couldn't he do it for himself and his wife? That's just part of the story itself, and usually something I leave alone, like the "why doesn't anyone recognize Superman?" question. However, since this movie went out of it's way to really delve into Krypton more, (not only that, it has Superman ask the very question I'm asking now) I think it needed to come up with a better answer.

Secondly, Zod's plot to change Earth to Krypton. I just kept wondering "why?" I mean, let's say we randomly get dropped off on a planet where we are indestructible, have superhuman senses, and can FRIGGIN FLY. Do you think we'd go "nah man, let's just make things normal again." Why in the holy heck would they want to change the planet back to an atmosphere that makes them essentially human? Yeah, I can see wanting to get that pesky human population out of the way, but honestly, are they really going to give you that much trouble? Not to mention, they could just take the ship and their little baby-making machine and start breeding a whole new batch of krypton in hiding. Even if they get up to a group of one hundred or so they'd probably be able to take over the Earth pretty easily.

Third, and this is the smaller of the three, but still, was Pa Kent's death. Now, I loved the idea of Jonathan being in a situation where Clark could save him and telling him not to. Great idea. I loved that moment, it just bugged me that the dude essentially died trying to save his damn dog. I mean, REALLY? The dog? And not only that, but I didn't buy that Clark would have listened to him when Clark offered to get the dog. It would have made more sense to have Jonathan, right after he gets the kid out of the car and gives her to her mom get trapped under something and then have the moment where he tells Clark no. It would have been quicker, and honestly just seemed a little less dumb. I mean, it was still a powerful scene and I think it works, but that little thing just bothered me.

All that said, I really did like this movie. It is by far my favorite Superman film.

Addressing the end dealing with him getting the job @ the Daily Planet: we don't know exactly the time frame is from when he told Martha at the grave about his idea & the actual time he showed up. The city appears to be repaired, so that could've been several months, a year, or even two years down the line. The whole Krypton exploding immediately after Zod & his cronies are imprisoned thing (shrugs) I just look at it more as a time jump & not right after. People had issues with TDKR doing something similar (in relation to the time Wayne was imprisoned/Gotham was under Bane & Talia's control). Once again, it's the "show me every single thing" syndrome. With some movies, you just have to fill in the blanks yourself. Just my opinion about that.

The soundtrack is good, but maybe misused a little in the movie. It's hard to hear it and you only catch the main themes over and over instead of how the songs are different. Maybe on another viewing I'll be able to distinguish.

There has to be something there because when Jor-El says it could happen at any time we have no way of knowing because he said it could happen in 24 hours...

Okay really silly but something that kept bugging me was how even when he was in that intense battle with zod smashing through buildings his hair always seemed to remain in perfect form not even really mussed or anything...I wanted to see some muss!

Another thing is that the Phantom Zone didn't see like a real effective prison. More like a fan service plot point to get Zod and co. out of the way for the story to focus on Clark.

1) Why did the Kryptonians need a ship to put criminals in the Phantom Zone? The only reason was so Zod & Co. were put in a ship was so they would have a ship when they got out. Lazy writing IMO.

2) Explain why the one scout ship that went to Earth would have the Suit 20,000 years in preparation? Who was piloting it and what was the relationship to Kal?

3) The creation of "Clark Kent" was completely skipped over. Since Lois is so heavily involved with Kal's life now, let her have a hand in helping him shape the civilian persona.

4) The Fortress ship was destroyed way too soon. No, rather it never should've happened.

5) What happened with Zod's body? Give us some hope for a resurrection.

6) Give Jenny a camera and show the budding photographer in her.

7) Give Perry more character than "generic editor"

I wouldnt have had J Kent die the way he did. I thought it was kind of stupid tbh.

I would have gone with a more linear story.

Less exposition.

The pacing was off for me.

I wouldnt have had Lois know that Clark was Superman. Now that she knows theres no more room in the sequels for any of the relationship dynamics between Clark, Lois, Superman.

I hate, hate, hated that part. A part of me kinda understood why, but at the same time i detest the idea of telling a child it might be ok to let people die even if he can help it. I would have put that out of the script altogether. There's just something innately horrible about it.

1. The origin story has been told many many times. If they wanted to focus on Clarks journey for the first half of the movie that would have been perfect. But they did not! They blended clarks journey with general Zods arrival, in turn making his journey feel like not a lengthy and soul finding one, but a short trip around block!

2. Make superman's reveal to the public more grandiose and awe inspiring.

3.They could have used Clarks journey to add more humor and humanity to Clark. Show him connecting with those he saves, coming out of his introversion so to speak. SHOW THE CHARACTER'S PROGRESSION!!!!!

4. LESS CGI fights and fights in general! I know superman is doing god like things, but look at the WB Superman cartoon. The fights are brutal but yet they can be followed.

Really?? more than *heart attack...dead* This Jonathan's death was more than just some life event, I took it as he died protecting his son from the world to the end, and I was choked the **** up through all of it! The lesson Clark learned was the price of inaction. Now it's up to you and the viewers to decide if that was a more valuable lesson than the traditional "There are some things even Superman can't prevent" lesson which is what we usually get.

Frankly i'd have preferred the heart attack. I get what the writer was going for but its just a tad too unrealistic. There's no way a son who loves his father that much sits back and watches him die when he has all the ability in the world to stop it. Regardless of what Jonathan said. Sorry, i just can't buy that. You save your father first, and you deal with the consequences later, whatever they might be. You just don't stand back and watch your father die.

I had trouble believing Clark would just stand there and let J Kent die like that. It rang hollow for me.

I was entertained...got money's worth, but big problem:

Superman is too much of a jerk in the movie...he's too arrogant. There needed to be more scenes of him saving people, being humble, bonding with his adopted parents. I felt Jonathan Kent was too cold in the movie...especially to his son.

The movie needed better script writers...and probably better director. Replace Goyer and Snyder with somebody competent.

There were quite a few old couples walking out of the movie theater during the action scene. I sort of see why....mayhem is fine and all, but there could hav ebeen some concern on Superman's part at the calamity.

sort of agree....I get what they were trying to do, but Snyder/Goyer messed up somewhere. Furthermore, I almost got impression Clark wanted Jonathan to die at beginning when he was holding his mother (after the argument int he car)..I don't think that was the intent, but that's a problem with the directing.

So many things but I guess I'll just say the info dump Jor-El to Clark and then the suit magically appears and he wears to fly for the first time.

So rushed and didn't really feel as awesome as I thought it would.

I will buy your cut of the film. No lie. If you do this, please let me know. Happy to buy if you're interested in selling, lol. That's almost exactly how I though the film would have went.

I had a problem with this too.

I think it would have been better if Clark learned to fly even before he put on the suit. Like accidentally doing it while trying to save someone or something idk if they could have worked that into the movie, but the first flight sequence although very good, could have been better.
