I was at IMBD and someone brought up the name of Denzel Washington to play Dent and it caused a huge argument. what do you think? if a black actor was cast would you be behind nolan or would you go berserk?

i personally think that it could work and it is interesting to me. i can actually see Denzel pulling it off, but i can also see Cusak pulling it off, not so much Phillippe though.

I can't see Washington or Cusack playing Dent but I could see schreiber I think schreiber has the look to play Harvey Dent and two-face.:)

They only brought up Denzel because of Billy Dee Williams starring in the 89' Batman. John Cusack is "ok" as Dent, but Liev or Joaquin Phoenix are the best picks for playing Harvey Dent. Ryan Phillipe is just sad and I think if he got chosen that I would consider it being a cash-in for him being nominated for "Crash" and Heath Ledger as Joker being nominated due to "Brokeback."

I dislike Denzel Washington as an actor, I think he's really overrated (personal preference). I'm also not a fan of changing a character from white to black or the other way around. It was dumb when they did in in 89 and I just dont see the point of doing it again. Let's stick to the comics this time around and try to cast an actor who can give a performance that is at least reminiscent of the comics. If it aint broke dont fix it.

Skin color means pretty little to me. If he fits the role, he fits the role. While I wouldn't be happy with someone like...Will Smith, I would be perfectly fine with Washington.

It depends on the character and how important they are. For Dent I wouldn't want Denzel as him.

I'm Black, and I don't want Denzel to play Harvey Dent...Does that make me a bad guy? Yes...Do I harvest the blood of innocent souls? Most likely... The fact is... I wanna see characters resememble their comicbook counterparts... There...

should a black actor play a white role?
No.
though I liked Billy Dee Williams in 89, I'm against the idea.
White characters should be played by white actors and black characters should be played by black actors.
It's that simple.

so if a black actor were to screen test and completly nailed the role, while all the other white actors didnt quite capture harvey, u would rather have nolan turn the black actor down?

how come whenever theres a big role to be filled for a flick, someone asks what if they got a black actor? it seems like all you want to do is stir up s#!t. if you wanna put denzels name out there for harvey dent, then start a thread about casting denzel for harvey....geez.

Personally, I find race to be reasonably important because changing race changes perspective (in the same way changing sex does). And, obviously, the visuals change.

However, for Dent I think race is less important so long as the actor can play the role. Kiefer Sutherland is my pick (of course, I know he won't be cast), but I think Denzel would be excellent in the role as well.

When Freeman was cast, everyone immediatly thought he was Gordon and were pretty happy. Denzel wouldn't be too bad a choice.

it all depends, while to some extent they should look the role, if they can capture the essence of it in their acting, then look should always be secondary. Acting first, look secondary, its why Hulme didnt get the role.

what about the new black guy from hustle and flow?

Terrence Howard.

I'm not a terribly big fan of his, but he would fit the role pretty well, I think.

Co-Sizzle, but Terrence Howard would be a good choice

Your example is quite improbable.

I´d think of it as a nice tribute to Billy Dee Williams, who played the ONLY serious Harvey Dent on film.

No! No!

Sorry, dont get me wrong, but Harvey Dent has never been black guy in comics.

Burton changed almost all characters, only because he didn't want to follow comics.

I doubt Nolan will do the same thing. We need actor, who would play exact Harvey Dent, who is known from Batman comics, not Burton's movies.

yeah i dont see the point in changing him to black unless theres

-no good white picks(which their are so argument over) or
-the guy is 100% perfect for the aprt(which nobdy is).

Denzel Washington only plays cops now, so that rules him out.

I'm the BIGGEST Denzel fan (the Sidney Portier of my generation) and I think he can do anything he wants, however, I think the problem would be the same when Billy Dee played him in the 89 version.

He's known too much as a "handsome" leading man to play the role. I don't think you want an actor that is too camera friendly to eventually be the scared half hideous 2face.

But if I go with a black actor to play the role of HArvey/2-face I'll go with Lawrence Fishborne instead.
